Anyone who thinks Tony LaRussa brought anything positive to this organization this time around is truly derranged.5 points

He got traded for the complete opposite. They traded for Samardzija trying to win.3 points

That sucks, would have been a really heartening one to get. Gotta make contact in extras. No real issues with the levers Veneble pulled, most of them worked, and the ones that didn't weren't really in his control. The guys fought hard, just ran out of bodies. Also...it's a win in regulation if not for that ball 4 call to Seager. I'm still annoyed on behalf of Taylor's ERA.3 points

They need upgrades across the board if we’re being honest. Even the guys on this roster we hope are on the next quality team are more likely lower-tier starting players3 points

I cannot imagine a day that I do not hate Manfred ball.3 points

Maybe they'll miss not having Wilson later in the game, but I like Venable treating that as a leverage spot and going to one of his best arms accordingly.3 points

Taylor is 34 years old and has a career OPS+ of 80. What are we doing here? Get someone at least under 30 for the role of complete s%*# 4th OF.3 points

Constant waiver wire pickups do not a winner make....who knew? One team's trash is the shiny new penny for Getz.2 points

Best case he gets hot and you maybe get a reliever type of prospect for him. In meantime at least he is here to kind of protect the rest of the arms. Vaughn was gone no matter what at end of the year anyway.2 points

How about a nice 1-2-3 instead of giving us all anxiety for the 4th straight inning Vasil2 points

Once the avalanche starts you can't stop it. Fans don't develop hitters, they say they stink . There's always pushback when fans pick out a likable young man to root for against the odds of his pedigree . It's much easier to be right saying someone sucks than to be kind and have a little patience.2 points

Baldwin was on fire in Charlotte, the Sox call him up and he’s sitting, WTF is the matter with Getz and Venable, try the hot hand you bozos.2 points
-
Wish Tim would get a longer shot, but his approach right now is pretty bad. At least Noda can take a walk, and also seems to be a local guy.2 points
-
I just want to add that I am so glad that Vaughn is gone for good. I was pretty confident we’d never see him again once he got demoted to AAA, but this all but confirms that.2 points

Imagine being told in 2021 that in 4 years, every player from the team will be gone but TLR will still be with the organization. That’s just fucking cruel.2 points

I just learned from this site last week that old bum veterans on cheap deals are the new market inefficiency… Tauchman, Slater, and Taylor are going to return hella prospects!!!2 points

If it's possible to DFA a home plate ump, MLB should do it with that guy.2 points

A .500 BABIP suggests big time batted ball luck rather than big time raking. Meanwhile Baldwin has a .354 ISO which is 2.5x higher than Amaya’s. That’s big time raking, even for someone at Charlotte.2 points

I wish him luck. Seemed like a decent guy. The Sox f'd up EVERY aspect of his development. Rushed him to Majors to justify the pick. Didn't send him down when he needed a reset. Finally (and worst) put him in the outfield where his lack of instinct and foot speed made him the worst option in MLB at that position. They thought they were drafting Steve Garvey and ended up with Steve Harvey.2 points

None of us know if that’s all Venable or if he’s receiving direction from Getz. And if it is Venable, Getz has done nothing to override those decisions. Thats all to say that I’m willing to give Venable some benefit of the doubt, but Getz not so much.1 point

I’m pretty confident that we can move Civale for at least a low level prospect in the month and a half. Pitching is always needed by contenders.1 point

Too early to judge when you have 4 positional players that should not be in the major leagues.1 point

Not gonna lie - my first reaction here was "...but didn't we JUST call him up??"1 point

June 13, 1957 - The Sox and Yankees hooked up in perhaps the greatest ‘base-brawl’ in history. In the first inning at Comiskey Park, New York’s Art Ditmar threw a pitch at the head of the Sox Larry Doby. As the pitch rolled to the wall, Ditmar ran to cover home. Doby warned Ditmar about the pitch, and then threw a left hook which dropped him. The fight appeared to have racial overtones and lasted a full 30 minutes. Chicago native and future Sox player Bill "Moose" Skowron jumped on Doby which brought Walt Dropo into the fray. Dropo was 6-5, 220 pounds, and a monster for his time. At various times, “Whitey” Ford, Casey Stengel, "Jungle" Jim Rivera and Enos "Country" Slaughter were in the middle of it. Slaughter’s jersey and undershirt were ripped to pieces and his hat was backwards in one of the most famous photographs of the 1950's. After things settled down Billy Martin rushed into things and started in on Doby. Five players were ejected and fined for the melee. New York won the game 4-3.1 point

We never really but will always buy into some tweet based on performance. We can't seem to accept the fact that maybe he wasn't any good.1 point

We aren't rushing him. He has totally owned that level and it's not a small sample size either. He has played 51 games and has a WRC+ of 148 with an absurd walk rate of close to 20%. He isn't being challenged there by the pitching. Move him up to High A. Braden should also be promoted to AA at some point in the very near future. Just get that BA up a bit and improve contact and get the K rate back down under 20%. It shouldnt be too long with Braden if he can keep hitting well and with power and keeping Ks in relative check, maybe a few more weeks. Zavala should also hopefully see some substantial time in AA this year too if he can keep hitting well at the plate as he has done recently.1 point

Best wishes to Vaughn who obviously got ruined by our coaching. He had no chance in Chicago for whatever reason. Hope he finds lift and pull heaven with the Brewers. Why all the negativity toward Elko. Earlier in the year the fanboard was clamoring for him to come up to the bigs. He's only a 10th round pick but I thought he was the next Dave Kingman. Let's support Elko folks and not hate everybody.1 point

I love how active Getz is with the back of the roster versus the previous regime.1 point

He’s starting his second straight game. Three more and then they’ll release him.1 point

I am not ready to give up on elko. Notice in AA and AA he was good when he got there but his 2nd year he was even better. So it may take him a while to adjust. But at this point you ride with him and see if he can figure it out before the end of the year. Just look at Vargas. He hit about .200 his first 500 ABs. Now he has figured it out. It may not work but there is no rain to give up on him. It's not like anyone is pushing for 1st base right now from the minors.1 point

If Colson does become a part of the infield, how about Colson at 3B, Meidroth at SS, Sosa/Baldwin at 2B, and Vargas at 1B?1 point

You can't make chicken salad out of chicken crap as they say. Vaughn was chicken crap, same with Madrigal. Guys super limited physically that needed to hit their 80th percentile upside at the plate to have value as a regular. Neither guy even came close and I don't think it's any different with another franchise.1 point
-
Disagree with AJ on this point, at least to some extent. My opinion is that talent evaluation is far, far more important than player development. On one hand, you cannot develop players like AV, Madrigal, Oscar Colas and maybe, as it may turn out, Colson Montgomery into star players. Investing development time into them is throwing money out. On the other hand, players like Teel, Quero, Vargas and Meidroth are the kind of players that the Sox should be given credit for identifying, acquiring and/or promoting. Their skills can be fine tuned, but they already have what it takes.1 point

I agree. I broke my "don't buy an active player jersey" rule for a TA Southside jersey. But if you mention him nowadays, everyone will spit his name out with venom because of how it ended. Hell, people love celebrating him failing with the Marlins and Angels.1 point

Who was in charge of player development while all these draft picks were failing? They should be fired and never work in baseball ever again!1 point
