I defended Schriffen last year because I didn’t feel he deserved all the hate. I’d still say some of the reactions to him are over the top, but he’s not a great listen. I like that he doesn’t have “announcer guy voice,” but for a PBP guy, he simply talks too much. He sells the team too hard. And he doesn’t really seem to know that much about or have any experience in baseball. People always made fun of Hawk for his arcane references, but at least they were baseball related. Schriffen asks his partners a lot of dumb questions. The radio broadcast is way better.I don’t see Schriffen improving over time, but (huge but) I thought DJ was terrible -really terrible - when he was on tv, and he got much better. I guess I can hope for the same with Schriffen. Let’s give the Cubs the colonic treatment and blow these a-holes out again. South Side, Stand Up!7 points

For those interested, I wrote 4,000 words on the White Sox draft for FutureSox. Here you go: https://www.futuresox.net/2025/07/26/white-sox-prioritize-bats-in-2025-mlb/6 points

Jason to me is like a nice cup of tea or coffee that's ruined by too much sugar. If he could just stick to calling the game without so many puns and jokes it would be a very nice experience. John is like a rancid 40oz of King Cobra that sat out on the porch all weekend and you take one swig of and start retching.5 points

I’d love to hear how your Detroit friend would react to Schriffen’s nonsense.4 points

If he is not a starter and someone wants to pay you high level closer price for him, I will drive him to the airport.4 points

Idk, I feel like the Fedde trade looks fine at this point. I'd much rather have Vargas/Albertus/Perez than Fedde and Kopech at this juncture.4 points

I know this will be an unpopular take, but if the Sox think Taylor's a RP long-term, you absolutely need to entertain trading him, especially if you get a legitimate bat in return. Especially if his mechanics are going to keep him out of the rotation.4 points

Time for them to tell us again how Vargas kills the Cubs while his DP in the first set the corpseball tone tonight.3 points

It's weird that Colson is actually going to go down as the greatest White Sox player ever.3 points

Lots of moves on the farm this week with presumably more to come soon. Most notably, Adrian Gil who has played well in AZ up to Kannapolis. And:3 points

If he's banged up he's banged up but you know just as well as I do that a 22 year old with platoon splits in a rebuild year should be getting every PA they can to try and fix that.3 points

He took a Happ backswing to the head and ball to his junk yesterday, so he might just be a little banged up.3 points

He is faking an injury because he loves playing for the Sox so much.3 points

For their record they're middle of the AL in Relief Pitcher ERA to be fair and accurate.2 points

Let him see it. If he has 4 hits yesterday he's seeing the ball well either way. Let him get some knocks from the other side to build confidence and improve. This is the time to give him the opportunity. I hate the idea of just settling him as a platoon guy.2 points

Of course the Phillies et al are interested in Taylor: they think they can get this top-of-the rotation talent for the price of a reliever. Trading him for Crawford (much less Robert and him for Crawford) under-values him. The Sox may see him as a reliever, but he certainly shouldn't price him as one. That would be clowning.2 points

👀 (Cags will be fine and Colson won't stay on a 10 WAR pace, it's just funny considering their respective AAA numbers)2 points

I would be targeting toolsy lefty OF. It doesn't matter if they are 4 years away. It doesn't matter how far they have to develop, we need to just accumulate scratch offs.2 points

Let Colson show you he can’t play SS. Baty or Vientos for Robert would be nice.2 points

I think an extra hour or so of drinking is just what this crowd needs to get in the proper mood.2 points

No T100 prospects were traded last year but maybe you can get one that fell off a year or two prior for Robert.2 points

Sox may be clearing space to get a volume of bottom of the 40 man types at the deadline. I would expect teams to be willing to trade roster crunch and out of options guys ahead of young lottery tickets for the marginal players the Sox have on offer.2 points

Schriffen is nowhere near as grating as Benetti for my taste. I have a Detroit fan friend who can't believe the nonsense he brought with him. I'll take Schriffen's shtick any day.2 points

The article cites spotty StatCast metrics but his xERA is 3.95 or right around the middle of the pack due to strong barrel and ground ball rates. There are reasons to believe he can be a valuable SP moving forward, even if the the 2ish ERA is far from sustainable. A weak SP market would definitely help his value though.2 points

I understand the risks with Crawford, but I’d still easily roll the dice on him for Robert. He is 21.5 years old and has plenty of time to grow & adjust. I also think you are greatly underselling his physical skills. He’s a legit 70 grade runner, which is incredibly fast. He has far more raw power than Juan Pierre ever had. The tools are there to be a special player even if they haven’t materialized in the way we’d like to see yet. Candidly speaking, if he was hitting more line drives and running better routes, he’d be one of the top prospects in the game and completely off limits. I don’t think the Phillies would give him up for Robert, but that would be a HR trade for us right now. I would not trade Taylor for him though…would need something with a higher degree of confidence to move him right now.2 points

I am on record as saying I don’t want Crawford. Pretty much for anything. I mean, Altavilla or something, but for Taylor?! Crawford cannot pull the ball. He cannot hit balls in the air. He’s fast, but he’s not Chandler Simpson. And there’s doubt about whether he sticks in center. There’s real Juan Pierre in left field vibes here. I would avoid.2 points

I think any case Getz trades Taylor he is going over market value. To me his floor is ~Mason Miller. If he can start, his ceiling could be Crochet.2 points

Sox have graduated to fun bad, from unwatchable.2 points

I like Taylor’s potential, but the Sox aren’t winning anything the next two years. If teams are treating him like a bonafide closer already, then you might as well cash in on him. Go use him to get two top 75 position prospects.2 points

Lol not only did every starter record a hit, but also every starter had at least one 100mph+ EV. What on earth did these guys do over the break?2 points

Wow, I didn't realize that. Based on some quick, unverified googling, it sounds like he's the only player in MLB history that has accomplished 27 up/27 down three times. The only other pitcher who did it twice was Sandy Koufax. Is that accurate? Putting on my Sox fan chip on my shoulder: I bet if a Cubs pitcher accomplished that feat 3x, someone would have written a folk song about it. If a Red Sox pitcher accomplished it, maybe Ken Burns would have done a documentary about it. /removing chip off of shoulder.2 points
