So it’s Robert for Acuna/Seranthony/Hays effectively? I think the team is better both this season and beyond with that trio instead of Robert.

Baldwin was elite in AAA last year and put up a 116 wRC+ when he returned post demotion over ~200 PA’s. The bat against RHP looks very kick much legit IMO. His outfield did suck last year in the corners, but there is reason to believe he can get better out there with more reps. He should be out there everyday against RHP at minimum and hopefully in the outfield predominantly.
  3. I have a hard time believing Boston is going to salary dump a guy who was regarded as a top 10 prospect in MLB just a year ago
  4. I think a lot of you guys overrate Meidroth. His trading value might never be as high as right now. Especially with Antonucci being just a year away.

    Mike Clevinger on line 1.
  6. Your source is good. Sox were going to take back Hicks and receive a pitching prospect from Boston in like 10-15ish range. Sox were only giving back a back end top 30 pitching prospect. There were some medical issues. Don’t think this one is happening.

The alumni hr derby is becoming a nice promo across the league. The idea of taking my kid to see Frank Thomas hit, or try to, is pretty cool.

Acuna is going to be a stud defensively in center. Great speed. Great instincts despite few reps.
  10. Because the Red Sox probably don’t want to do that. Simple

I think this is the first time a thread is completely unanimous that this was a good signing. Dominguez also got a overwhelmingly positive review from Sox talk as did Murakami. It was even mixed on the Robert trade. WTF is going on around here? I want my old soxtalk back where every move is terrible.😁

I'm past worrying about flip candidates. Build a team that is fun to watch and maybe start winning some games. Perhaps even a division title. Yeah, we can always make the trades when they make sense, but they aren't why we should acquire players. That takes away playing time for the young guns.

I like Getz a lot. My remark was meant to say that Getz knows nothing positive comes with sharing with the press or fans. Example: We would love to find a way to acquire Hays isn't going to work to our advantage. However, we are having talks with both FA's and possible trade partners for outfield help, which keeps fans happy. In general, the GMs all play the same game.

I liked Irarte just because my cousin called him gyro irritating while drunk in 2023

Won't be flipping anyone when you are up 5 games in the central at the deadline.
  16. So you want to trade a 24 year old MLB player who showed potential in his rookie year because of a 23 year old who has 49 games in double a? What is this.

We no longer have the lowest projection at all three outfield positions. We have passed the Rockies in Left Field!

Good signing. I can't help it but I have to say again. The White Sox Are Coming, Tra La, Tra La!!!!
  19. 2 points
That’s a fair opinion. But when you phrase it like “Then he can’t…”, you make it sound like anybody who has a setback is automatically disqualified from being considered the best player in a system.

There is quite a bit if research going on with augmented reality trying to get at the mental physical link you are describing. Athletics are starting to use in in some capacities as well. I work the a group that is using it linked with a stimulator and we are getting muscle use from paralyzed patients. The crazy thing is that we are finding carry over once the stimulator is removed.

I would suggest Getz work on achieving 99 losses this year as a benchmark.
  25. Exactly. Hicks doesn’t have any value. Bello does, and a lot of it.
  26. 1 point
But we have to give something. Shouldn’t be more than an org guy. Why do we want Hicks anyway? He has cumulative career WAR of .9 and he’s paid $12 million. Why would we want anything to do with him?
  27. I think Griffin Canning could show out here for a $5mil-ish deal. Márquez would be a lot more disappointing. I'm surprised he hasn't signed yet, his injury is probably pretty concerning.
  28. Given how the Robert trade played out, I’m skeptical that they would actually ever do this.
  29. 1 point
To be fair, the Sox were 3.5 games behind the Indians at the time. 🤣

Sox would never entertain the idea of a white flag trade…

  33. Jordan Hicks has OK peripherals. Those saying he's bad may want to buckle up for the type of guy we're actually going to get then.. which may be like German Marquez level. Beyond Hicks though I really like the idea that we are open to taking on another team's money and then getting sweeteners in the deal. That is big-boy organization behavior. Dodgers do this regularly to just keep piling on value upon value.

Real SoxTalk posters drive Jeeps on the south side.
  35. Happy the deal is not likely. Hicks isn’t good

Oh I understand opinions vary. If the Sox lose 100 again that dominate the off sesson again . Letting all the kids have a runway sometime wont help tbem win so it bevomed well you wanted the kids to play. Even as good as the kids played last year adding vets in the OF and BP fosters more winning. You dont want the kids getting too discouraged .

hopefully it's just coincidental. but that's fucked up.

The AJ/Jenks bobblehead is cool but that’s Easter Sunday
  39. If he can just get to some more doubles in the gap (to keep the D honest) he can get back to being a .360+ OBP player which combined with good D is at least a 2 win player.
  40. 1 point
Solid addition. LF Hays CF Acuna RF Baldwin/Pereira....until Braden?
  41. He has a lot more power than people think (i.e., enough to keep outfields honest). He isn't Madrigal. I think we'll see it this year

Really wish we could just get rid of Benintendi, even if we ate half of his salary. Instead we will probably get rid of Sosa even though he is one of our better hitters. Sosa should be DH while also getting a couple games a week in the INF. Benintendi is strictly a DH and really bad in the field when he has to play

I like Hays. He’s great as the short side of a platoon and okay if he faces righties with real weakness against sliders. As long as he doesn’t play center, he’s a pretty good defender. I personally am a Baldwin Stan, but will acknowledge that his routes in the corners were brutal last year. Letting him play one position more often would help that. Currently, his best defensive position is third base. With the juice in his bat, I could definitely see a poor man’s Barger and that’s a pretty good player.

Since they no longer do an Old Timers Game anymore this is the next best thing.
  45. Pretty sure this is trade is dead. Player on the Red Sox side and it wasn't Hicks failed the medicals. Back to the drawing board for a starting pitcher.
  46. January 31, 1909 - Sox catcher Billy Sullivan secured a patent on the first chest protector. It contained a wind pad with compressed air. It was the forerunner of the modern catcher’s chest protector. Sullivan was the White Sox catcher from 1901 through 1912, missed the 1913 season, then came back to play for the team in 1914. January 31, 1956 – George “Buck” Weaver died at the age of 65 in Chicago. Weaver was one of the “Black Sox” that was banned from the game by then Commissioner Kenesaw “Mountain” Landis for his involvement in the fix of the 1919 World Series. Weaver, however, until he died, maintained his innocence and the record shows he hit .324 in the series with 11 hits, five for extra bases. He also was perfect in the field. Despite not taking any money from the gamblers Landis banned him because he knew about the fix but didn’t tell anyone about it. January 31, 2003 - U.S. Cellular Company and the White Sox signed an agreement selling the naming rights to Comiskey Park. The deal was worth 68 million dollars and the contract was for 23 years. The money received by the club contained the stipulation that it could only be used on renovations and upgrades for the stadium, not say, for signing free agents. Because of said renovations U.S. Cellular Field became one of the better-looking stadiums in baseball altering the original look which was heavily criticized by fans and media alike. Chicago Sun-Times columnist Jay Mariotti sarcastically referred to the original design as a ‘ball-mall’ for example. The Guaranteed Rate company would then secure naming rights in November 2016.
  47. Yeah I think it's easy to overrate just about any player if you're making confident claims that somebody is going to be good. But certainly I think if someone wants to move a controllable player to make space for Sam Antonacci, they are almost certainly overrating Sam Antonacci (who obviously has a chance to be a MLB contributor).
  48. Hick + Campbell for Meidroth? Who says no other than me?
  49. Good stuff here.
