We’re just over a month away from Opening Day so I thought now would be a good time for official lineup predictions. Here is my official guess of what Ricky will trot out on Opening Day against the Royals: Anderson, SS Moncada, 3B# Abreu, 1B Grandal, C# Jimenez, LF Encarnacion, DH Mazara, RF* Robert, CF Garcia, 2B#

If they don't make multiple moves by 2pm tomorrow, I've decided that I can't defend Bowman anymore. Not moving players tomorrow is just fucking unacceptable. 17.5 hrs to jumping on the Can Stan train.

I guess I’ll just say that this isn’t particularly that interesting. If sox like him and think he could be closer, it has benefit of savings in years other salaries rise. If he falls, we are safely in the area where over paying isn’t much of an issue. id blame the bizarre arbitration affinity for relievers for causing this. It’s not going to be hugely impactful, no where near in scale to recent extensions.

He's been my favorite relief prospect seems like forever now (liked him even when Hamilton, Burdi, etc. were lighting up the minors). I'm expecting him to make noise on a callup this year.

Since you read the article you can see at one point he was #66 in MLB pipeline rankings. Probably have to assume around 10 pitchers ahead of him so yea at one point he was probably like the 10th best pitching prospect in all of baseball. Edit :Ok just to be more accurate I looked at MLB pipeline rankings for 2018 and saw Dunning at #59 and counted 22 pitchers ahead of him including Kopech and Cease and some other familiar high ranking MiLB and now MLB pitchers. Those players were grossly unpaid by their cheap, polarizing owner. Nothing has changed. My poor White Sox have NEVER been blessed by great ownership.

He has 4 pitches thst grade out as plus or better? I know he was a decent prospect, but 4 plus pitches makes him sound like a top product.

The Sox literally burned $13 million dollars in a fireplace when they acquired Alonso and Jay last year. I am surprised anyone would be upset about this signing for a young reliever who could have closer potential. If he repeats last season and gets a few saves, his trade value would be through the roof.

Yeah, the arms are doing so well (obviously early) that fewer may get to us than expected. However, if Kjerstad has an amazing year, he'll probably be taken before us anyway in lieu of one of the pitchers. IMO, it all bodes well for Ed Howard (or someone comparable in HS) being there for us

You really think 16 mil spread out over 5 years is going to dent what exactly? Even if he falls off a cliff this year and isn’t good the entire contract his $ is just a drop in the bucket for a team that if in contention should be spending and is only league avg in spending

What Bummer did last year generating GBs at that rate and with that velocity has only ever been matched by zach Britton. Bummer is much more unique than many here are giving him credit for.

It also adds to trade value if that ever enters the equation.

This is a relatively small monetary commitment

I think it’s good. Relievers have become super expensive in arb. They paid him upfront to avoid paying him $19-$20 million in his arb years. Smooths the commitment out. The club options are a possibly nice to have but beside the point.
