Apologies - this was an issue with our server (not the server company) but a capacity issue. It hit and basically ran out of space so just started shutting down. It started happening last week intermitently but wasn't aware of the broader issue. Unfortunately - I was traveling in remote parts starting Friday so was NOT aware and when I became aware, well, I wasn't about to cut a rural vacation short for Soxtalk (sorry guys). But yesterday I dug my car out and first thing I did when I get home was chat through and identify the issue, so everything should be back and working well and I don't expect the issue that persisted the past week to pop back up. So we should be back for good.14 points

The Soxtalk site became self-aware, realized it no longer wanted to be affiliated with the Chicago White Sox, and keeps trying to pull its own plug. And honesty, who could blame it?4 points

If that’s your concern, why mention the fact in the first place. Just seems odd to declare yourself “not a baseball fan” of one of the best closers in baseball3 points

Dug my 3 row SUV from being completely burried (so basically under 8 foot of snow) and than made the long drive back from vacation and put in the server request last night to get the site fixed But did get some greatskiing / snowboarding in with the family2 points

It is amazing. It's why it's hard to figure out what to think of the current grade of our scouting/intl/pd. It actually does feel different, and hopefully that leads to much more success. I think 2018, as Robert was about to clearly blow thru the system, it was rare to get any of our international classes into A+. If you look at like our 2013/2014/15 classes (we'll just uh, ignore that one guy), they were bad in DSL and then awful in Arizona. You'd be pumped about Amado Nunez and then he'd struggle to put up a .500 OPS. Adolfo we kept hoping on and he would barely play for 4 years. Hey this franklin reyes guy sounds awesome whoa 440 ops. Such was life. I feel like that's why Lenyn stuck out like he did. We hadn't seen anyone just hang in there as a younger prospect. The outlier was Carlos Perez ho-hum climbing up the system.2 points

If the White Sox did what the cubs did, blocked their young talent with a bunch of old guys (I include Bellinger in this group), there would be an uproar. None of those guys outside of Swanson do anything to make the cubs window any more near than it was last year. Their whole offseason was signing guys that when you open a pack of baseball cards you just shrug when you se them. They made some headlines and increase their payroll. This was what the Sox and done previously and were lambasted for it.2 points

Based on nothing but age, I assume the Sox would be in on Salgado and Molina.2 points

They're the original signees (outside of a couple low bonus guys), so "plenty of money", about 2.4M, remains available. They said that some signings from Venezuela should be coming through soon, so how much more that takes out of the remaining $ is yet to be seen (I do believe the 2.4M amount does reflect the rumored Angelo Hernandez bonus amount).1 point

I'm a believer that character and contributions to the sport should count, not just stats. I would much rather read about and hold up as examples of what makes baseball great, guys like Buehrle and Baines over guys who tarnished the sport. I also believe there should be an area discussing the steroid era and the guys who did amazing things while juiced. I also believe an all steroid league would out draw the non steroid league because1 point

The Cubs "did more" than the Sox in the 2023 offseason. They "did more" than the Astros, too. The thing is, the Cubs still stink. So who cares?1 point

Again, no one asked you to add the comment that you "have not been a big baseball fan of Liam" and YOU decided to post that in a thread about him being diagnosed with cancer. Given his performance on the field, it's entirely reasonable for someone to ask you "why" you haven't been a fan of his performance. Now you're playing the victim and saying people are piling on. It seemed like a simple question, that came from your original comment.1 point

have no idea what it takes to run a site or the cost or what admins do. know i dislike some during exchanges and the likes, but glad to have the site up and working and appreciate the work that goes into running it. probably waste 10 mins a day on this site, but some of the better 10 mins of my day.1 point

Stone is on a different level than Stacey King. Stone is super knowledgeable about the game, and there's nobody better to give insight on pitching. King is an absolute joke. His solution to everything is "feed the ball to the big man in the post". He has zero grasp on modern NBA basketball.1 point

I grew up in Chgo in the 60s and my dad regularly took brothers and me to both Sox and Cub games. Fondly remember Pete Ward, Ron Hanson, Don Buford, Tommy Agee, Moose Skowren, Ken Berry, Gary Peters, Hoyt Wilhem, Joel Horlen, etc. On the north side, Ernie Banks, Ron Santo, Don Kessinger, Glen Beckert, Randy Hundley, Billy Williams, Fergis Jenkins, etc. I (we) were Chicago fans and pulled for both teams equally. I remain a Chicago fan till this day. Yes...its not heresy to be both. That said (and I commented here earlier, prior to Cubs signing Swanson and Sox signing Benentendi) the Cubs are on a better trajectory than the Sox. Sox might have higher profile pitchers but Cubs starting pitching is stronger and deeper. I'm actually of the belief the Cubs have a fighting chance of winning division and I cannot say the same about Sox. In terms of this offseason, Cubs were the clear winners but only time will tell.1 point

Really good article on the Athletic about Liam and the people he's reached out to since coming to town. https://theathletic.com/4082449/2023/01/13/liam-hendriks-cancer-lymphoma-charitable-work/ Without stealing too much from the article: He's been helping the community in a whole lot of ways.1 point

Decent jump so far for Buehrle. I can see new age voters that value defense helping him out as the years go by.1 point

I keep reading this and picking up new nuggets. I do think the BA guys are right, I really have expectations that come the draft in mid-july we are talking about a system suddenly strong in some high end pitching. It is also a real defining year for rodriguez/sosa/romy/perez to show they can sustain some of this success at higher levels with more scrutiny. I really do like Shirley as a drafter, but we still know nothing. I do think he drafts guys that can hold prospect value longer for trades, which while Hostetler at times got us that depth, so many of his picks were considered maxed out by the time they hit A ball.1 point

I'm not sure about that....I've got a message in to this Greek guy that I know and will pass it along once I get confirmation. I do know that any trades done while SoxTalk is down are null and void.0 points
