  1. Truly hate to admit it, but I will celebrate the day this fucker turns into worm food.

  2. We've come to expect Abreu to be bad in April but part of the blame was always on Chicago weather. Houston was to have helped. AV destroyed him in April. JA has become a singles hitter. APRIL vaughn abreu average 255 235 OBP 358 267 OPS 792 537 HR 3 0 RBI 20 11 BB 13 4 K 24 27 extra base hits 13 4 salary - year $760,000 $19,500,000

  3. If we’ve learned one thing over the last 7 years, it’s that making negative threads about Abreu definitely paints a TOTALLY ACCURATE picture of how he will perform from that point forward!

  4. He also stated something along the lines of as an owner you have to let the GM and baseball minds do their jobs and not interfere with operations…. yet he did the exact opposite when he forced TLR upon the team.

  5. Season is over. Someone posted the other day, no team in MLB history has even made the postseason after starting like 7-18. Over a century of data tells you that this team will not be making the postseason this year. I don't even want them to get close at this point, they need to "flush" the front office and the only way that has a remote chance of happening is if this team fails epically. This is what I want to see the rest of the year to hopefully force that change.

  6. This franchise is dead in the water until Jerry croaks. Just depressing.

  7. At this point there isn’t anything left to say. As fans we are held hostage by this man until he is no longer owner, and now he feels pretty free to remind us that 4th place can be fine

  9. The only way to change this is to stop going to games. Tune them out. I know it’s a tired sports thought but damn man enough is enough. I feel foolish giving my hard earned money to this guy who has no interest in winning.

  10. Are you fucking serious? This reads like an onion article of an out of touch billionaire owner. We are straight fucked. It doesn't matter if he fires Hahn, he'll find another clown.

  11. I knew this would happen once they won a game. The players on this team suck. They have no pitching and I’m not sure that Cease wasn’t a one year wonder. Lynn will continue to get shelled despite his good six innings the other night. Giolito too. They have no bullpen. They be closer to the Royals than the top. Don’t do this to yourselves.

  14. In case you haven’t noticed, they just lost 10 straight, are 13 games under, haven’t won a single series in the first month, and are a laughingstock. I’m not trying to tell anyone how to be a fan, but anyone here “waving a white flag” or “screaming the sky is falling” is doing so with ample evidence to suggest this team is dead, dysfunctional, and going nowhere fast. If you’d like to ignore the last 10 months or so of baseball this team has played, by all means. But maybe don’t drag fans who see the big picture and have endured enough of this team’s bullshit.

  15. They don't have the bullpen for a 5-6 game over .500 month. Bummer has been bad for multiple years now, Reylo is mentally weak, Crochet is a huge question mark Graveman, Kelly, Diekman, bad bad bad Starting rotation is way worse than we realized going into 2023, Lynn has lost 3mph off his pitches, Kopech is a head case, Clevinger has arguably the worst peripheral stats of all our starters Cease and Giolito seem to be our only semi-reliable starters Let's talk about our bench/depth: there isnt any. They called up our hottest minor leaguer and he looks about as awful as you can imagine, Romy was supposed to be the new Leury except he's actually WORSE Then you have the injury problems. Robert seems hurt, Eloy is hurt again I'm sorry but this team shouldn't be fooling any of you guys, they'll lose about 90-95 games

  16. I am Mr. Positive. I have zero hope for this team or this franchise at this point. I really think it will take an ownership change at this point as I think the stench is so deep in this org. The wrong standard, the wrong bar, the wrong money invested in the wrong things. Just awful. With that said - a total clean house with a complete new voice could theoritically change things. And whomever the front office is - should know going into it what JR's guidelines for payroll are - and than optimize your roster under those standards. Don't pretend somehow you are going to be something you aren't.

  17. May 1, 1909 - In a game at South Side Park, the White Sox buried the Tigers 19-9 banging out 16 hits. Detroit made 10 errors in the game. Their starting pitcher, Joe Yeager, allowed 12 runs but only five were earned in three innings of work. There was one other notable incident in the game, the Sox Herm McFarland hit the first grand slam in American League history when he connected off Yeager in the second inning. May 1, 1924 - In a game at Cleveland, Sox outfielder Bill Barrett banged out four hits and stole home twice in a 13-7 win. Barrett went 4 for 5 with three runs scored and two RBI’s for the afternoon. His steals of home came in the first and ninth innings. May 1, 1936 - The Sox purchased the contract of Fred “Dixie” Walker from the Yankees. Alas this was a big one who eventually got away as the Sox traded him in a deal with the Tigers after only one season. In 1937, with the Sox, Walker drove in 95 RBI’s while hitting .302. Walker would achieve stardom in Brooklyn winning a batting title and playing in four All-Star games. May 1, 1951 - Recently acquired outfielder Orestes “Minnie” Minoso made his White Sox debut. The “Cuban Comet” became the first black player in team history. In his first at bat as a member of the Sox he hit a home run into the center field bull pen at Comiskey Park off Vic Raschi. The drive went an estimated 425 feet and drove in a pair of runs. Later in the same game, won by the Yankees 8-3, Mickey Mantle would hit the first of his 536 home runs. May 1, 1954 - Sox pitcher Virgil “Fire” Trucks tossed a one-hitter in beating the Red Sox 3-0. The only hit he allowed came in the sixth inning, a single by future White Sox player Billy Goodman. He struck out eight Boston batters in the game. It was the first of his pair of one-hitters for the 1954 season. He’d end the year going 19-12 with a 2.79 ERA making the All-Star team and saving the win for the American League. May 1, 1959 - Early Wynn had one of the greatest days ever by a pitcher when he did it all in the 1-0 Sox win over Boston. Wynn tossed a one-hit complete game striking out 14. In addition, he slammed a home run in the last of the eighth inning to account for the game’s only run. His drive bounced off the glove of Boston’s Bill Renna into the first row of seats at Comiskey Park. The only hit he allowed came to Pete Runnels in the first inning. It was a single to center field just to the left of shortstop Luis Aparicio. Ironically seconds before the hit Wynn moved Aparicio over a few steps to his right and he wasn’t able to reach the ball. Wynn’s control wasn’t the best as he walked seven batters but he was always able to get out of trouble. May 1, 1960 - Al Smith connected on a Jim Bunning pitch and set off owner Bill Veeck’s new exploding scoreboard for the first time. The blast came in the third inning with Jim Landis on base. The Sox would win the game 6-3, and then swept the Tigers taking game two by the score of 5-2. The scoreboard was 130 feet wide and cost $300,000. There was a firing platform in back that went into action when a White Sox player hit a home run. There were noises of varying tones and intensities. Among the noises were the sounds of horses running, thunder and the collision of locomotives. The eight small ladders atop the scoreboard flashed into electrical patterns. Strobe lights were atop the two higher ladders. Bombs and fireworks also were exploded from the firing platform. May 1, 1973 - Dick Allen hit a lot of long home runs in his time with the White Sox but this may have been his longest. On a cool, damp night at Comiskey Park, Allen deposited a pitch from the Orioles Mike Cuellar on to the roof in left center field. The pitch was unusual as it approached home plate and many speculated that what Allen hit was a ‘Cuban Forkball’ (i.e. spitball) that failed to break downwards. Allen would hit two home runs on the night in the Sox 6-5 win. For many years afterwards the Sox hung a sign on the roof in left center field indicating where his ball passed over. May 1, 1991 - The Sox lost one of the longest games in their history 10-9 to the Brewers in Milwaukee. The Sox blew leads of 5-0 and 9-6 in this one. The game went 19 innings and ran 6:05. The game went so long that WGN-TV sports director Dan Roan, who was covering the game, had to do his evening sportscast from a parking lot at a bar just inside the state line on Route 41. He couldn’t get back to the studio in downtown Chicago in time! Dan Roan

  18. As someone who used to split season tickets for the Bulls and go to 10+ Sox games per year I remain committed to not going to any games until Reinsdorf no longer owns the teams. Insane to give that piece of s%*# money

  19. What a sack of s%*#. It’s interesting contrasting Reinsdorf with the sports I follow these days (German soccer, because 1) lived there and 2) lol Chicago sports is a tire fire). It’s clear that Reinsdorf could give a s%*# about the fans and their connection to the team. There is a very clear difference between “the club belongs to the fans” and “this is an asset I’m trying to maximize the value for.” It’s very clear where Reinsdorf aligns, and we’ll all be better off when he’s dead. Good riddance.

  20. Too much BS to even try to respond to all of it...but so tired of the liar saying, ""My approach has been I never really cared about making any money..." So some of his other comments: "If you have somebody who decides he wants to spend $42 million on a second baseman who hits .202, and one comes along for you, you’re going to probably have to spend the same money." and "Now our rights fees are about $700k per game…Streaming is coming along but it doesn’t produce the money that the cable bundle produced. And there’s basically near-panic. because where are we going to replace this money in the short term?" Do those comments sound like a person who doesn't care about making money? Sounds to me like he is very concerned about it. Where he is correct is that he should consider what fans think or they won't buy your tickets. Well this fan is done buying them as long as you're the one selling them.

  21. I am 100% rooting for the losses to pile up. I don’t actually enjoy my favorite team losing all of the time, but that misery is familiar. I am merely convinced that JR is an impediment to winning, and any decent stretch of games delays the house cleaning that is desperately needed. I don’t have any belief that JR does this of course, which just makes me double down on wanting this dysfunctional s%*# show to burn all the way down. Let them be a national embarrassment every single day until he sells or passes.

  23. I am starting to hate the abreu was a "leader", "mentor", "great example" words thrown around for Abreu. Our players had always appeared to be lazy, we had a bad and divided clubhouse, no accountability, and more lazy... Is this indicative of a good leader, mentor, and great example?

  24. We had a 3rd overall pick. That is a terrible idea just to grab the guy that can be MLB ready. He also wasn't a very good complement! We struggled to find a good place for him and ended up with 12 1B who have no power.

  25. The Sox have blown and lost four games this year where they led in the 7th inning or later. Lopez has been directly responsible for two of them. And if not for the miracle comeback yesterday it would have been three for him in five blown games. His ERA is something like eight. He has sucked this year.

  27. I cant give up on a season after April. It's too long a winter and I wait for baseball everyday. There's nothing that can really change until closer to the deadline so we have to play with the cards dealt. If I'm Pedro I stress to the team take it month by month. If they play 5 games over .500 in May, and 5 games over in June they'll be sniffing .500 by July and you go from there. I don't think a 15 - 10 or 16 - 11 month is impossible. Erase April from the collective memory and look forward.

  28. I think Vaughn's numbers will only go up as he keeps getting experience and playing daily. The last few years he has played out of position and part time. Now he is playing a position he is comfortable with and not having to waste mental energy on a position he never played before until he came to the Sox. I will always treasure the great years Jose gave the Sox. However it was the right time to move on and obviously we are seeing the results prove it, especially with what we are paying Vaughn as opposed to Jose's salary. You're so right we always gave Abreu a break for the April cold weather. However I find it interesting that it sure isn't cold in Houston. The Astros have played 16 home games and 12 road games at Minn, Pitt, Atl, TB. Other than Pitt and Minn, all warm weather cities, so the April thing isn't a valid excuse anymore.

  29. Congrats to vaughn but he was a terrible pick at this point. While obviously CJ Abrams hasn't produced much yet, he held much higher prospect value (as seen by netting one of the best players in baseball). I hope that's a lesson to those who railed against him as a "KW pick" and "Just an athlete"

  33. I have some news you aren’t going to like. You, me, and everyone else in the stands don’t have any impact on that. “We” aren’t part of the team. We’re fans. Fans that have been rooting for one of the worst franchises in sports. I don’t try to tell people to be fans. You want to hold out hope, that’s on you. But it’s nothing more than blind faith. Using any historical data to guide your decision making will tell you this will be another season of MLB without the White Sox in the playoffs

  34. While trying to find a search function for win and series streaks, I came across team position performance leaders by bWAR. 35. Straw man argument. The White Sox aren't moving, things were worse a LOT worse as far as the health of the franchise in the late 60's and the mid 70's and they didn't leave. Too many things still in a franchise's favor if only good ownership knew how to take advantage of it. When JR departs and the team is sold they aren't going anyplace. Please stop with the dire straits. And yes this shitshow needs to be burned down to the ground and rebuild BUT with competent people who know what they are doing. Again, take care of yourself and hope to outlive current ownership and see what the future brings.

  36. Exactly. The start to the season has been a disaster, but we will get Tim and Yoan back. Luis and Eloy are better than they have started. What is truly scary is just how bad this pitching staff is. It's putrid. Starting Pitching Kopech has an ERA over 7, with a FIP of 7.44. Lynn has and ERA over 7, his FIP is 5.47. These guys have flat out stunk, not just unlucky. Clevinger hasnt been any good either, ERA of 4.60 with a 5.57 FIP. Giolito and Cease have been the only reliable starters. Bullpen Lopez (8.76), Lambert (6.92), Diekman (7.94), Bummer (9.64), Graveman (5.56), Kelly (7.71) all have been bad to awful so far. The only reliable arms so far are the guys we cant rely on AT ALL to keep it up with Santos (1.88) and Middleton (3.86)

  37. The depressing fact that we always circle back to is...say the Sox flip the script and go on a 10 game winning streak (that was hard for me to even type out, let alone imagine) That brings them to 18-21, which still sucks, especially considering the division and this "World Series Window" On top of that, while making the playoffs gives you a better shot at winning the World Series, than, say, not making the playoffs...this team isn't anywhere CLOSE to Tampa, the Blue Jays, still even the Astros, and then teams like the Braves, Mets, Brewers, Dodgers, etc. So what is the point? There is too much history to tell us Rick and Kenny don't know how to build a consistent winner (because they legitimately never have) and Jerry won't ever invest to "push the team over the top" or seemingly invest in the infrastructure that winning organizations have. There have been a few outliers in the last 15 years, like the Nationals winning it all in 2019 and the Royals in 2015, but in both those cases those teams executed full rebuilds and the Nats made the playoffs in 5/8 years during their run, while the Royals had a much shorter run with a 5 year "window" but two World Series Appearances. The other teams to win World Series since 2005? Cardinals, Red Sox, Phillies, Yankees, Giants, Cubs, Astros, Dodgers and Braves. Those have been the premiere franchises in baseball basically since the 90's and there is a reason for it, which isn't just payroll. The point is it's not just about "luck" in the playoffs, it's about building a consistent organization that can make playoff appearances on a regular basis, giving your team an actual chance for sustained success. That objectively will not happen with the current leadership in place.

  38. This is one area where Beckham can actually provide helpful insight. He’s much better when he doesn’t have to fill dad air, or feels the need to fill dead air. They both are spot on here and it really speaks to the dysfunction still going in inside the locker room.

  41. To be #3 pick as a 1b only, RH only player, he needed to be Pete Alonso level. In all his complete, real seasons, he's been at 140 wRC+ He's settling into some Rhys Hoskins level. Which is fine. But Hoskins was selected in the 5th. Alonso was selected in the 2nd. Their career to date, he's been basically outplayed by Sheets, a 2nd round pick. And only sox fans, scarred by a SS moving to 2B, could still believe that asking baseball players to play different positions screws them up so much. To the extent that vaughn is so unathletic and weak in the legs he gets worn down so easily, it's another case against taking him 3rd overall.

  42. It’s very disappointing to me. He’s simply got to hit for more power. He’s sitting at 0 WAR right now as his 124 wRC+ is completely offset by the 1B positional adjustment and his below average defense.

  43. While it's true that he has always gotten better, his home run production has shockingly gone down. Last year he had three home runs from 8/1 to the end. Here is homers by month in 2022: apr-2, may-3, june-4, july-3, aug-2, sept-1. My intent wasn't a negative thread about Abreu per se. More about showing AV's value. I had thought that in 2023 JA would be better than AV and that may still be true; in 2024 AV=JA; 2025 and beyond AV would be better.
