I'd like to pair him with a decent project for a trade with Arizona for Mena.9 points

This, Dominic Fletcher, and possibly not starting Crochet in Charlotte to stretch out just scream "we're gonna rush this rebuild."5 points

IIRC in Eloy's last game, he fouled a ball at the plate that sounded like it bounced up and caught him in the junk. He finished the AB after walking it off for a while, but maybe he's got some swelling in a sensitive spot. I imagine they don't see a lot of harm done in him missing a handful of spring ABs with an extra day or two off. He's obviously got his timing at the plate and it's not like he needs field reps to DH. But they also might not want to come out and say his balls are bruised or whatever, lol. He's playing tomorrow.4 points

I also don't think he's far off from the majors but may as well keep that year of service.4 points

One of the bonuses of being a dogshit team is you can manipulate service time with relative impunity. May as well use it. Jerry might die tomorrow and it will actually matter, who knows.3 points

This should be a wake up call for the Bears who wanted to keep Fields over drafting Williams and yet it definitely won’t be.3 points

I do wish Getz had grabbed up Smith-Njigba when on waivers. The league seems to view him as a AAAA player. DeLoach hasn't been lighting the league on fire, either. Perhaps breaking camp with the Sox is so stressful to a rookie that most of them just choke. Where have you gone John Cangelosi, our nation turns it's lonely eyes to you.3 points

There is almost no version of a merit based promotion where I’d say that a guy who has barely pitched in AA should come north based on a few innings against inconsistent lineups in the spring. Send him to BHam and if he’s dominant for a month move him to Charlotte. If he’s dominant there for two months, great let’s see him at the all star break. Thats merit based promotions.3 points

Here's that Burke catch: Touki threw a 10 pitch 1-2-3 inning. It was late in the game so not really against the best talent, but the efficiency is progress I guess.2 points

There is basically no circumstance that made sense to keep him, and clearly the Bears agreed with that line of thinking as they were only able to obtain a 6th for him. The Bears have never developed a QB, as we all know. They are to blame for that, but it’s also incredibly difficult to do, as many other teams around the league also know. They are investing the largest draft capital possible in Caleb, they better do everything in their power and give him every possible chance to develop and succeed. Having Fields on this roster hinders that in multiple ways, and clearly they decided he wasn’t going to be part of their long term plans. Once they made that determination, getting him off the roster was the only choice they had, and I believe other GM’s knew that, which is why they accepted the best offer on the table, which was a 6th.2 points

I’m pretty excited to watch them. I assume they’ll just move to crying how it’s a mistake instead of admitting how embarrassingly incapable they were of admitting reality.2 points

The White Sox are the only team in baseball that use spring to fight for every roster spot. Spring is completely meaningless2 points

Both the Mariners and Giants are playing split squads too so it's a mixed bag, but I would say Mariners have more of their main guys vs. the Sox. Giants have Chapman, Soler, Conforto, etc. in their other game. I think Shewmake is still in the running for bench IF. His baserunning especially is a plus for him, stole his 6th today.2 points

I have to imagine Chris Getz specifically must be petrified of telling Jerry how promotions are often based on merit.2 points

He should but Getz would lose face....so he'll start as the platoon RF on the big club.2 points

I wouldn’t trust Pedro if he was asked to name the color of dirt.2 points

So is Clevengers problem his accusations against him or that he still wants too much money? Or a combo? Chapman has had no problem getting jobs abd he fireda gun at a woman or at least tried to scare her. And now he's on TMZ fondling his mother's breasts.2 points

British A-Levels and IB...pretty standardized cuuriculum that looks at these issues more objectively/historically without attempting to suggest a best or ideal model. But Keynesian is the one that gets the most attention...as well as supply side 1980's Reagan/Bush/Thatcher/Stockman voodoo economics style.2 points

What is your job? The most common thing teachers hear is that just about anyone can do that job...vacations and benefits are too generous, but very few people have the patience required. Which is only about 1/4th of the challenge. I teach Economics, not English...fwiw. And it doesn't matter anyway...I will retire next year at age 54 and enjoy the rest of my life to the best of my ability.2 points

And if you consent to some rough sex you consent to everything including being choked until you pass out then continuing to have sex while unconscious? Let me help you with that. 1:10 in will get to the important part. I actually give a s%*# about infidelity and would never cheat on my spouse. But you be you.2 points

Agreed. Corner OF doesn’t demand much defensively so that’s where teams put the mashers who can’t field (unless they DH). Therefore, to be really worthwhile he needs to be *at least* as good offensively as the typical corner outfielder who already hits well.1 point

Guys, just because they said Fields has been traded….doesn’t make it true. Poles is playing chess on another dimension, here. Why hasn’t he said anything yet?! Poles said he is building through the draft. And don’t you remember that picture of both of them hugging each other!? It’s because Fields is our QB1, and we’re trading our #1 pick (to avoid the future bust) for a HAUL.1 point

Thanks for the consistent updates here and the minor league forum. Hopefully shewmake can carve out a nice defensive bench career. Seems like a nice kid.1 point

If poles price was a starter price, nobody viewed him as a starter. This is a backup price that got worse as backups with longer contracts were acquired.1 point
-
I don’t think that’s necessarily true. They didn’t want to pay Poles price. He didn’t adjust until he ran out of options.1 point
-
And Bears fans. Clueless. A QB’s most important ability is to be able to throw the ball accurately, not run.1 point

Probably for the best. He can now use his one attribute. Velocity. Rather than throwing low to mid 90’s as a starter.1 point

Regardless of exactly why, the league has been super clear on this. Clevinger was actually a pretty good pitcher last year when healthy. Despite teams being desperate for pitching last year, he wasn’t moved at the deadline when the white Sox could have paid part of his contract, he wasn’t picked up on waivers when a team would have owed him about $6 million for September and the playoffs, and he’s unsigned now. The Dodgers gave up two actual pitching prospects to take on nearly $10 million for Lynn and Kelly and despite their rotation being a bunch of corpses by September they wanted no part of him. Someone may still sign him, but from the perspective of the White Sox, if they sign him and he’s quite good, he’s still likely untradeable. You spend money on him, get 150 really good innings, and zero guys who could contribute to your next winning team. The White Sox are better off using those innings on waiver claims and churning that 40 man roster Spot for the year. While not guaranteed, at least that gives some chance of finding a piece that improves Them long term.1 point

I’m sure he meant in terms of a professional athlete that is doing his job well, not infidelity in general.1 point

Eh. What about just making a stand and saying the best 26 guys come north. If Thorpe is in there he’s in there. Totally merit based for everything.1 point

in 20 years White Sox owner, Mellody Hobson, will present Chris Getz the John Schuerholz Award, for excellence in the GM role. Melody, " I want to thank Chris for his dedication and hard work and the 7 World Series titles."1 point

I mean at the end of the day, no matter what you think of the Sox, their scouting and development, and everything else, this is a guy who was wanted by the Yankees and the Padres. Even if you don't trust us, those are two organizations with decent reps.1 point

If you're going to compare Clevenger and Bauer to Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy, there's really no point in us having any type of conversation. Clevenger doesn't fit that profile at all. Like, not even a little bit. From what I know, that worst thing he's ever done was breaking covid protocol to do blow with a few girls. As a kid in his early 20's, that's pretty normal. Irresponsible? Absolutely, but he's an idiot baseball player with a lot of money and no education. That doesn't make him a psychopath.1 point

The kid can pitch, and he beat all his cases. f*** it. Bring him on.1 point

Agreed. Bazzana and Wetherholt are both limited players because they're below avg athletes. They would be the same in a long line of recent college position players the Sox have drafted. Collins, Berger, Madrigal, Vaughn, Gonzalez. All these guys are limited players because they're not good athletes. They have to move away from drafting this type of player and draft plus athletes with tools and high ceilings. One or even both of Wetherholt and Bazzana may end up being fine players but I don't want them to draft a fine player. I want them to draft a high impact difference maker.1 point

1 trade and now people want him fired. The whitesox need a culture change.... So does Soxtalk. You could get 2 top 100 prospects and some will complain it was not 2 top 10. I feel Getz got what he could at the moment for cease.1 point
-
I honestly couldn't tell if this was about Getz or Katz. And if Gatz is some amalgam of both, they both can go. Not that either of them are at any risk of losing their jobs any time soon.1 point
