  1. Dyson just went from the 2020 Pittsburgh Pirates to the 2020 Chicago White Sox. He must be over-the-moon. Also, as a little side note, TA not the only African American on the team anymore, so that's cool. Out of all the things to love about this team, one thing that I think tends to get overlooked is how diverse it is. I love the diversity on this team.

  2. Dyson-Robert-Engel late inning OF D, and a PR threat off the bench. Why not?

  3. So essentially we gave up money we could have spent in Latin America, in a period that is already dried up, for the right to pay the best pinch runner in baseball for the rest of the season. There really isn't a downside to this.

  5. Come back down to earth? Homeboy is hitting .266 with a .314 OBP. He's kept 2B from being a black hole in the lineup, but he is firmly on the earth right now.

  6. im surprised people are willing to trade any of our top people for Lynn. He is 33. Dont get me wrong, he is good, but I would not trade any significant pieces for him.

  7. The only way I would trade Kopech is if he was part of a package for deGrom. That’s it.

  8. I hope they don't play. Bigger than sports.

  10. I am saying this year, I think our odds are probably less than 10% of winning, and those odds increase as we get to 21, and then peak in those next few years. With those odds, I am not willing to push all in for a slightly larger chance at winning, when we could use those assets down the line when we will have a much higher chance.

  11. This may be an unpopular opinion, but as of today I do not believe we are "one piece away". While this team is a lot better, I don't see them as the top tier as of today. They have the potential to get there with more experience and growth, but they are not there yet.

  12. With the 10th inning extra runner out there, and the extra roster spots for the playoffs, he could be a great tool as a PR and replacement OF.

  13. I’d say to opposite. Basabe has struggled the past 3 years and doesn’t look like anything more than a 4th OF type player IMO. The guy can’t hit RHP. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t have tools to be something more, but looking at his stats/splits in Birmingham, he’s expendable. He was quickly falling off the top prospect rankings across multiple sites. These types of players grow on trees. Sox probably tried to sneak him through and another team took a chance.

  14. Who else would offer a top 30ish prospect for a year & change of a 33 year old, overweight pitcher in the middle of a pandemic fueled season? I love Lynn but dude is getting to that point in his career where he could just fall off a cliff and that’s ignoring the obvious threat of “what if he contracts COVID” and were to miss an extended stretch of time. Trading Kopech is an all-in move that likely jeopardizes the most important years ahead of us. Our team is a year ahead of the curve, but we’re still not a finished product. We do NOT need to make a massive move this year if it costs us key long-term pieces. We can always roll with what we got and look to make moves during the 2020-21 offseason. That being said, if depth can be traded to improve our chances this year then I’m all for it, but Kopech should only be moved for a guy that can help at least both 2021 & 2022 in addition to this year.

  15. I'm all for trading for Lynn...but to give up Kopech and Madrigal you better be getting DeGrom

  20. I read that as Collins to ATL initially and thought the Sox made a trade. Speaking of trades: Acuna for Collins, who says no? ?

  21. The fact that he was sitting on the bench while AJ Reed was getting at bats last August/September still pisses me off. We had a great chance to see what we have in Zack and wasted it.

  23. Yeah, I love outfield defense and speed so Dyson always been a me guy. Dyson has been worth 13.6 fWAR in 2679 AB's; good for a fWAR/600 over 3. He's been an above average MLB player in his career despite having a career wRC+ of 78. That's.... remarkable.

  24. To put into perspective how good of a baserunner Dyson is; since he entered the league, he is the 4th most valuable baserunner in baseball. Impressive... but even more absurd is that he's the 4th most valuable but he has HALF as many PA's as the guy in 1st and 3rd. He has 600 fewer PA's than Billy Hamilton who ranks second. On a rate basis, Dyson is the 3rd best base runner in baseball in the last 60 years. He's one of the only base runners you'd ever trade for.

  27. This is a powerful moment. I selfishly want them to play. If they don't I stand with them however. I get the feeling with leaders like TA, Gio and Jose they will take a day. That's OK. Sports are the reward for a functioning society...

  29. The defensive turnaround this year was already pretty insane. Adding two gold glove caliber defenders to the bench takes it to a whole other level. Hopefully Goins and Gonzalez enjoyed those MLB paychecks for a while.

  30. Talk of trading Madrigal/Kopech in any trade for Lynn is laughable. Madrigal is our 2b, he's untouchable. Kopech is untouchable unless your name is Jacob DeGrom. If we are getting Lynn it's going to be for Stevier or lower level players.

  31. Yeah, Gore has more raw speed than Dyson but he's not quite as good of a baserunner or base stealer as Dyson.

  32. Here is your best options to go ALL out this season and for the future. Both are EXPENSIVE. Option 1 is MUCH more likely - Mets Probably won't make a trade. Option 1: 2020 - Giolito Lynn D.K. Cease Gonzalez/Lopez - Dunning & Stiever BOTH are gone to to get Lynn (they dont want Madrigal, they have to pay Odor ridiculous contract) 2021 - Giolito Lynn D.K. Kopech Cease - Lynn is FA after 2022 - Giolito Kopech D.K. Cease Crochet/Thompson 2023- Giolito Kopech D.K. Cease Crochet/Kelley Option 2: 2020 - DeGrom Giolito D.K. Cease Gonzalez/Lopez - Kopech and Stiever are gone to get DeGrom + Collins and Adolpho 2021- DeGrom Giolito D.K. Cease Dunning 2022 - DegGrom Giolito D.K. Cease Dunning/Crochet. - Extremely Expensive Salaries 2023 - DeGrom Giolito DK Cease Dunning/Crochet/Kelley. Extremely Expensive Salaries, probably would have to trade one Here is stand pat. This solution is MUCH cheaper but relies on signing either Bauer, Stroman or a lesser talent Option 3: 2020 Giolito D.K. Cease Gonzalez Dunning/Lopez 2021 Giolito Bauer D.K. Cease Kopech/Dunning 2022 Giolito Kopech D.K. Dunning Stiever/Crochet (Maybe Bauer signs) 2023 Giolito Kopech D.K. Crochet/Dunning Kelly/Steiver Which option is likely? Which option wins the most?

  34. Probably a better use of a roster spot than Luis Gonzalez. But hopefully we didn't just trade away dollars we could use for Colas/Cespedes.
    2 points
  35. What is the status of the current bonus pool money? Is this a situation of the Sox trading away dollars they effectively couldn't use, or is this them trading away dollars that could be used for Colas and/or Cespedes?

  36. Same here. Giving up a boatload of prospects for Lynn is nuts. Get Dunning back on the roster, start him (if he is healthy, of course), and forget about Lance Lynn.

  37. I see Bummers recovery as directly related to trade activity. If we don't believe he is able to come back strong for PO run, I'd be less inclined to push in all the chips for 2020 but I would still dangle Kopech to Texas.

  38. I think I've have gotten to the point where I just want the deadline to pass without doing anything stupid.

  39. Kopechs future is suspect at this point and very likely not to make much impact until 2022 if even then. We dont even know if baseball is still his top priority. Trade him before he becomes a social worker or runs off to be with a guru. Unfair I know. But when everyone else was crapping on him for opting out I said it could be smartest decision he could make. Not prioritizing baseball in itself isnt a bad thing but it is to a team and fans expecting big things from him.

  40. Yeah, "he hits this one to deep left field and it is GONE!" is kind of generic. It's not bad or good. It's just kinda there. But again, for 30 years Hawk's home run call was iconic so that's a pretty tough act to follow.

  41. But could be our ace the four years after that while core is still under control and in their prime. If we trade Kopech, it has to be for a starter with more control than just one full year and one partial.

  45. please keep politics out of this as asked on original post. This is the teams decision to make, not ours.
