Two questions, at the time they were acquired, Hernandez had the same OPS + as Duvall, and blew Pederson and Soler away. How was it those guys were can't miss, and Hernandez was clearly washed up? And how come you didn't post your opinion in the Hermandez trade thread?6 points

That was an impressive goal post shift into a completely different topic.5 points

So, this is great in a vacuum but it's also a very white thing to say. Fact is, you (just like most) have inherent biases and those biases easily infiltrate the concept of "best hire" to be one of someone who looks most like you. There have been tons of studies done on this. I think Williams brings up a great point; for minority candidates they are often times discredited for not having enough experience, but a ton of white people get a shot with very little experience at all. Executive level positions in this country, in general (beyond just baseball) do not break down racially or gender-wise with either general population racial/gender identities or college education racial/gender identities. That alone should tell you that the "best candidate" is passed over time and time again. Hell, women are still under paid, as are many minorities, in comparison to their equal-footed peers.4 points

I believe in April he declared his favorite team was the Padres and no longer the white Sox so that's probably what he is talking about4 points

I've never been a fan of hiring someone based on color, or forcing interviews based on color. Hire the best person, whoever that may be. Wasn't Willie Harris interviewed last year here just because we HAD to interview a minority due to some rule? Poor Willie, that would suck to be a "token interview", since they already made their horrible minds up with Larussa.4 points

If you want talk about Conforto, that's over in the Semien thread.3 points

Would like to see Kim Ng take over when Kenny's contract is over, have strong consideration for POC for the GM and managerial roles. Also hope they reach out to Abreu to see if he is interested in a FO role, since he is young enough to make an impact. Could also be mentored under Paddy (promote him), if he would prefer spending more time overseas, or begin learning roles under the FO if he would like to stay in Chicago after his career. Nobody is more passionate about White Sox baseball. Tim is very smart, may also be a great consideration when his career is over. Player "ambassadors" are nice if someone is looking for a paycheck and not much responsibility, but there are many out former players looking for a formal opportunity if only one was offered. Kenny Williams was one of Jerry Reinsdorf's greatest accomplishments in his 40 years of baseball, also giving Manuel, Ozzie and Ricky opportunities as well.3 points

Here's the thing. If everyone looks exactly the same, they are either saying the best people for the job are all white males, or they are all saying they aren't hiring the best guys.3 points

Jimmy posts something that suggests the Sox are after Conforto, and bingo the notinsider NotSteve posts somehting similar. But not Steve doesn't look at message boards.3 points

To add to this, the last five years of WAR from the Atlanta Braves OFs that won them a World Series, including that Soler guy you were dropping. Soler 17 0.2, 18 3.5, 19 0.3, 20 -1.4, 21 1.1 Duvall, 17 2.0, 18 0.8, 19 0.7, 20 1.9, 21 1.2 Joc 17 --0.4, 18 2.2, 19 2.8, 20 -0.3, 21 -0.1 Rosario 17 1.6, 18 4.3, 19 1.5, 20 1.2, 21 1.1 But somehow Atlanta is a genius for trading for all of these guys in super clear high WAR trends in recent years.3 points

I’m sure that Rick Hahn discussed Marcus Semien while he was meeting with Scott Boras about Michael Conforto and Carlos Rodòn3 points

for catcher, I think we'll get "competition". I'd like to throw a ST invite to Robinson Chirinos.2 points

My take is that in february people will be yearning for an offseason this good2 points
-
Would y’all be happy with this offseason? 1) RF: Conforto 2) 2B: Escobar 3) Backup catcher: Manny Piña 4) SP: Alex Wood (incentive based contract for IP) 5) RP: Resign Tepera And for those of you that have a better feel for budget and contract expectations, is this even in the ballpark of being realistic? Would these moves require offloading most of Kimbrel and/or Keuchel’s contracts? I think it’s hard to effectively fill all holes in an offseason, so there are definite flaws here (SP and RP depth).2 points

Pairing Conforto with Escobar is both extremely realistic and the best moves for our offense.2 points

I see a few issue with Marte. 1. He's 33 and he plays a young man's game. How long will his speed hold up given he's going to be in his mid to late 30s by the end of the contract he gets? His sprint speed has been decreasing the last 2 years. From 89th percentile in 2020 to 83rd percentile last year. 2. A large amount of the increase in his value last year on offense came from him walking a lot more, something he's never done before in his career. Is this an outlier or has he actually acquired better plate discipline? 3. He hits a lot of ground balls. 54% of his balls in play were grounders last year. This isn't really a bad thing, but on a team that has issues with hitting too many ground balls, I'm not sure you want to add to that problem. Don't get me wrong, I think Marte is a really good player, I just don't think he's a great fit on this team. A lot of teams also want him to play CF, but he probably profiles as a better corner OFer given his age and decrease in sprint speed as he ages.2 points

I keep seeing the topic is hot and has new pages and get very interested, but then I check in and it's still about Cesar and the trade deadline.2 points

Hoping the Sox can get Conforto locked up before Thanksgiving2 points

The best people for the job are white males because they aren't hiring the best people for the lower level jobs who work their way up to the top jobs.2 points

fortunately, I hated the cesar trade so I am in fact the straight shooter you all need to assess opinions.2 points

Yet the Braves tried to fill three starting OF positions with worse profiles than the guy you were ripping the Sox for getting, but that is a success. That is some crazy contortions.2 points

Moncada has hit plenty of balls hard. Covid is dangerous but I'm not buying it zapping his power at this point.2 points

We’re still paying attention to that guy huh. Remember when the Kimbrel trade was breaking and he made the reasonable guess that Crochet was going back, only to say “Woops sorry! He was discussed but Sox went a different direction’ Among many other (all) posts. If you guys are desperate, I will post an inspirational Sox are active post each day2 points

That was awesome. Bradley was absolutely worthless and they still won. With Vuc they win that by 20 and I thought the refs were trash too tonight. That said - first time my son has ever seen the Bulls win in person and first time I have in a while. Loved it!2 points

Keith law ranted about that topic in a podcast recently. The Sabermetric movement actually made the situation for POC front office personnel worse. It was always a white world in front offices but at least there were a few black guys like Michael Hill, Dave Stewart etc because back then front offices were recruited from baseball lifers and usually former players. The ivy league movement decreased diversity because now every new GM is a young white Ivy league graduate. Obviously there are also qualified black ivy league graduates but those people are not chosen, the only way for black personnel to make it into baseball jobs is being a former pro player. There are rules for Diversity but Apparently teams circumvent that By inviting some former black GMs like Michael Hill to interviews with no intention of signing them.1 point

What’s the rule on posting fake or non fake rumors on here? Maybe you can head up the team that will enforce this rule since you care about it so much but yes I do enjoy the rumors no matter if they are stupid or real. It makes the offseason fun and interesting.1 point
-
I agree with this. I just more meant I don’t think they will get a productive piece from a team’s lineup that struggled offensively that is looking to compete.1 point

Hmph, he's still in his 20s, he had an ERA near 5 but the best FIP, K/9, and BB/9 (tie with rookie year) of his career last year. This could be a sneaky good signing with that bigger ballpark in Detroit as opposed to Boston. Looks like he jumped to a .364 BABIP last year.1 point

Baseball Savant has him at excellent at second base (95% percentile) last year. FRAA likes him a good bit. Fangraphs only has him slightly positive.1 point

If KW goes to another team, I will instantly become a fan of that team.1 point

They're interested in Conforto. I think they've (Hahn) talked to Boras a lot. I don't think it's about Marcus Semien1 point
-
I'd be ecstatic if he hit 25 home runs. The sad reality, is that he has hit more than 17, just once in his 5 year career. Not sure where the home runs are.1 point

Yeah. Why couldn't our top prospects have stayed in the minor leagues instead of developing and being promoted.1 point

This is so wrong, it is hilarious. The amount of hype around the guys on this team like Carlos Rodon, Yoan Moncada, and Luis Robert to start with, blow away anything Andrew Vaughn has seen. Hell the Sox created a freaking T-shit with most of those guys on it before they even hit the majors. Vaughn has actually become extremely underrated and understated precisely because of the hype around the rest of the better known guys.1 point
