Huge news...Kimbrel spotted near the Dodgers Spring Training complex.19 points
-
Yes. Sox would forfeit like the 65th pick, the bonus pool amount associated and $500K in international space. They should be willing to do it though. This offseason hasn't been a good one for the White Sox. I agree with you. If they're in fact done, it's a very poor allocation of available resources. Also, I'm not your pal.14 points

Do something you cowards. I know you want another reliever.6 points

From what Id heard, the Sox were willing to do better than that5 points

Rodon without injuries is as likely as an entire 8th grade class without zits.5 points
-
A championship run organization would not replace Rodon with a flier or trot out a platoon in right field. I don’t give a damn about “AL favorites” or rankings.5 points
-
It’s laughable that people on this board think Lux or Bellinger can come back in a Kimbrel deal. Keep on dreaming.5 points
-
Not true. They’ve offered players more money since. I think that’s a very fair first offer for Conforto with a QO, personally. Agreed. There’s no market for him that’s known anyway. I’m not sure that deal is out there. Most teams won’t forfeit a 2nd, the pool space and $500K in international funds for 1-2 years of Conforto. He should’ve taken the QO. They aren’t. The board might be but this doesn’t make any sense. I don’t know what the status is but I now they had interest in the player.4 points

Kimbrel will get moved. The Sox have offers but they aren't ready to make a decision. In regards to the guys left on the market, teams are concerned with Story's ability to throw. I'm not sure where he ends up. There aren't really any rumors linking Conforto to anyone at this point which is real strange obviously.4 points

I hate Hahn, Jerry, and Kenny so much right now. I really really do. This organization is so awful, just mind boggling bad4 points

Getting a 5 WAR player like Correa on what is basically a 1 year deal at $35 million is market rate. Yes, it's expensive, but would you rather have a 27 year old at $35 million a year or would you rather give that 27 year old a 10 year $30 million/year deal and watch him suck it up in the last 5 years of it?4 points

The cycle of soxtalk offseasons will now be complete when conforto signs elsewhere.3 points

I don’t know. I doubt it. Informed speculation: the Sox were willing to do something in the 4 year $72-$76 million range. I have no idea whether they still would or not. Boras was looking for more than that. Over 5 years and $100 million plus from all indications. I doubt Sox would do a 1-2 year and forfeit the 2nd rounder and pool space to do so. I’m not sure anyone would though.3 points

This is a loser's mentality. You don't go into a season where your team is competitive with a giant hole in RF because some prospects (who haven't shown a damn thing yet) "might" be ready a year or 2 from now.3 points
-
There are other ways to buy prospects though. My point is if the market doesn’t view Kimbrel as being worth at least $16M on a one year deal then you’re destroying value by picking up his option. Now, if you’re saying there are teams who think he’s that valuable but simply can’t afford to fit his salary into their budget and are willing to give up a prospect in exchange for cash considerations then maybe you can still come out ahead. But man, I hate the concept of picking up an option and basically being forced to eat some money to move said player. Just seems too risky and bad process overall.3 points

You can't blame Reinsdorf for this. It's hard for the Sox to compete financially with a team that is in the lucrative market that is Minneapolis.3 points
-
I think people think that 2022 Kopech will be better than 2022 Rodon. And, that’s probably fair.3 points
-
You mean be overworked and then throw a half-hearted start in the ALDS? I think Kopech can handle that.3 points
-
This Twins offseason kind of reminds me of the 2015/2016 Sox. Desperately trying to compete while having a very flawed roster that will result in a rebuild. Correa is gone after this season for sure assuming he doesn’t suck.3 points
-
I think if they get Montas, they're right there. I like their offense more than the Sox right now. They're going to absolutely rake.3 points

If I was a team in the market for a closer and waa considering Kimbrel, I wouldn't give up jack shit for him now, and I am not a Kimbrel hater. I would make the Sox use him as a set up guy and see which version has shown up. The longer this drags on, the lower his price tag gets. Maybe I'm wrong, but I can't see the Dodgers giving anything of value for a guy who ended last year struggling and is getting paid the same as their longtime closer they apparently didn't want to pay. Bellinger would be a great prize, even though he is a huge question mark. It just doesn't make sense to me from a Dodgers perspective. Sure, overall they save a couple of bucks. But they don't care too much about that. If they would give up Bellinger, it makes me think they think he won't hit anymore. I think their scouting is pretty good.3 points
-
I look forward to the handful of people that continually say it’s never gonna happen crawling back into their caves when it does. He has very limited suitors at this point. Have the Sox (annoyingly) played the long game here? Absolutely. But I still think he’s a Sox before it’s all said and done. 4/$78M. If it doesn’t happen, oh well. life goes on. Sox still really good, but this offseason will have been an objective failure unless Hahn pulls some rabbit out of his ass with Kimbrel/LAD/Bellinger which I think is a pipe dream.3 points

Ill say it, ban me or whatever i get it, but the day Jerry croaks ill pop open a bottle of champagne.3 points

Gonna be fun seeing the Correa vs Kelly fireworks more often.3 points

Are you guys mad about this? Why? Twins aren't good and this keeps him away from playoff opponents like the Astros and Yankees. This is good news for the Sox, especially if it makes them pony up for Conforto now. ?3 points
-
What's hilarious is that the Twins dumped Donaldson on the Yankees and then got the guy they probably wanted all along with the payroll flexibility. It's the one time the Twins have beaten the Yankees at something.3 points

Joe Mauer 8 years, $184 million Carlos Correa 3 years, $105.3 million (opt outs after Years 1-2) $35.1 million/year Byron Buxton 7 years, $100 million Josh Donaldson 4 years, $94 million The deal also includes an $8 million buyout of a $16 million club option for a fifth year. Ok, I just see Lux and Bellinger and think that’s going to be out of reach for Kimbrel.2 points

Looking at all those RHP, maybe having Conforto on the Sox would be beneficial2 points

IDK about you, but I'd like Twins fans to stay discouraged.2 points

If we go back to that Heyman tweet about the Twins being interested in Conforto, that was definitely an effort by Boras to up the Sox offer cause he knew that the Twins were getting Correa.2 points

The rare acquisition that causes the fan base of both Chicago teams to melt down2 points

At least the talent movement has been pretty diffuse, lots of mediocre teams signing guys. Correa going to our division helps in two ways. It puts pressure on the Sox, and it makes Houston noticeably worse. For a bad offseason this has been okay in some ways.2 points

Fuck. Sox are getting real complacent now and the rest of the division is taking notice.2 points

It was one of the names thrown around for Kimbrel. Sox had pretty strong ask for Kimbrel (w/dodgers). I assumed they wouldn’t get it but based upon what they were asking it showed me they thought he had a market or they were only trading him if they could get something meaty. My intel didn’t come from someone with ties to Sox thinking but Dodgers weren’t yet ready to budge and my contact didn’t think they would budge (but that could have changed). I did expect a deal with Dodgers to be one where Sox got payroll back (vs adding to payroll for Kenley). I am kind of excited now that Kenley left…maybe it means they could reach a deal that works for Sox.2 points

Why the hell would the Sox want Myers? He is a worse OF than Vaughn, hits RH and has a terrible contract. Other than that, he’s a perfect fit. Keeping Kimbrel makes more sense than that.2 points

Some of the memes on the White Sox sub about Hahn's love of relievers are pretty funny.2 points
-
Being results oriented with Tatis based on his track record with injuries feels icky and awful to me. The Hahn-Williams legacy with this was that they evaluated James Shields to be worth more than him. It doesn't matter whether Tatis never plays another ML game again, they should never be let off the hook for that. Never.2 points
