I think we need to thank AJ Pollock for declining his free $8 million. Without that, I doubt this deal happens.13 points

I don’t get all the hate. f*** of ya’ll Debbie Downers. Go start a pity party thread and keep bitching there. Solid move.10 points

I have not read this thread but anyone not liking this deal is not paying attention to anything. The White Sox do not need power. They need their power hitters to hit with power and above average hitters. The whole offseason means nothing if Anderson, Moncada, Eloy, Grandal and Robert all s%*# the bed again.10 points

Where are all the chicken littles that said we'd never sign an OF? We just got the 2nd best LH option on the market.10 points

Yankees, Astros and Padres all wanted him. I take that as a good sign.8 points

The Sox signed a LH bat that has good OBP and is a good fielder. We should be pleased with this.6 points

What - Gallo is straight trash. Such a flawed player. You can tell me its okay his power will bounce back but Andrew is coming off multiple solid seasons and is just a good / solid all around player. Is he a superstar, no, but he's a good player, a quality hitter, a good baserunner, has speed, etc. He's just a flat out solid all around ball player. So much better than what the Twins did.6 points

Haniger got 3 and $44 million, but he's also 3 years older. I think Benintendi is also a much better fit for the team than Haniger. The deal is absolutely fair in this market and the 5 year commitment isn't that big of a deal for a guy that's only 28.6 points

Never been a big benetendi guy, but he's certainly an mlb quality regular.6 points

Is this the part when I say, Kenny always gets his guy?6 points

I wouldn't call Sox fans whiners. I'd call them smart and accountable fans who have been subject to the worst franchise in baseball for countless decades. They are rightfully skeptical & upset.6 points

Hopefully Robert hits for a fuckton more power with Menechino gone. Zero excuse for him not to be a 25 to 30 HR guy IMO.6 points

I really don’t know. Seems they need to clear payroll but I’m not sure what they have to get in return. I don’t like them as a trade partner. I’ve heard about Phillies talks with Mick Abel involved. I’m really not sure though. My guess is that Sox would like to keep Hendriks5 points
-
Not when your franchise’s largest contract is 25% shy of six figures.5 points

The foodies are complete frauds. I do think Hendriks gets dealt though. If it were me, I’d do the following to wrap up the off-season: Trade Ramos, Vera/Mena & Sosa/Romy to TB for Lowe Trade Hendriks to TOR for Jansen and a pitching prospect Trade Zavala to TBD team for a live arm with options Sign Adam Duvall to a 1/$7M deal Sign Alex Reyes to a 1/$2M deal Run with this for next year: Lineup: 1) Anderson, SS | 2) Benintendi*, LF | 3) Vaughn, 1B | 4) Jimenez, DH | 5) Lowe, 2B* | 6) Robert, CF | 7) Moncada, 3B# | C) Jansen*, C | 9) Colas*, RF Bench: IF) Gonzalez | OF) Duvall | UT) Garcia# | BC) Grandal# Rotation: 1) Cease | 2) Lynn | 3) Giolito | 4) Kopech | 5) Clevinger Bullpen: CL) Lopez | SU) Graveman | SU) Bummer* | MR) Kelly | MR) Diekman* | MR) Reyes | MR) Ruiz/Lambert | LR) Avila5 points

If you do not like this move you just want to be miserable and there is nothing that can be done. Stay miserable I don't care but it's a good signing and what they need. f*** it I will research to prove you wrong Eaton 1.0 24 age season OPS 86 Eaton 2.0 32 age season OPS 66 Eaton 3.0 27 age season OPS 120 carry on with your nonsense though and be a miserable Sox fan it that's what gives you your kicks. The eaton singings have nothing on this one but piss and moan and yell at the clouds while you are at it.5 points

Yet many fans want one of the worst hitters to ever play at that stadium (Gallo)5 points
-
We haven't had a solid left handed hitter in the lineup since Adam Eaton the first time around (if you're not counting switch hitters). Yes, Benintendi's ceiling is fairly low. He's not exciting. But this lineup badly needed a stable and consistent left handed hitter and that is exactly what Benintendi is. The upside to him is that his offensive numbers were depressed by Kaufmann stadium. His wRC+ on the road these last 2 seasons were 123 and 131. His ISO on the road in 2021 was over .200. Move him to Guaranteed Rate for half the season and I wouldn't be surprised if he put up 25 homers next year. Did they overpay? Probably. Is Benintendi an impact player? No. But only Aaron Judge or one of the top SSs would have been if Yoan and Grandal don't bounce back. The team's potential is still gonna depend on at least one of those guys to not be a corpse next year at the plate.5 points

If it were reversed, it'd be that the Sox went with the cheapskate move.5 points
-
Tendi/Robert/Colas for the next 5 years is pretty solid actually. Defense alone will make the sox ERAs drop about .50 across the board the next two seasons (it was that bad). With the contract others got this year, you really can't complain.5 points

It's almost like they're all total frauds and none of them have actual sources ?5 points

I absolutely adore the fact that the dumbass foodie accounts haven't had s%*# on this rumor.5 points

Jimmy (poster here) has a generally pretty well known and believable connection. This got a separate thread because he backed up the initial twitter rumor.5 points

Who cares about Eloys feelings. He’s lost that luxury. If he wants to get another decent contract after this one, he needs to hit.5 points

I’m getting a new puppy for the kids today, so the White Sox adding a legit free agent would make it something truly special.5 points

FWIW, this is also the first time at least in recent history he has tried to play insider.5 points

Yeah but if you’re getting your info from Fangraphs, Gallos projected WAR in 2023, which is all most of us really care about, is half of ABs. 5 years vs. 1 year, I will give that to you, but we will see. I think the ball is going to have a little more juice in it in 2023.4 points

Of course gotta wait on $, but this is a solid move to fill a big hole. Nothing special, but we certainly can’t complain about a solid move at this point4 points

Seeing the contracts being given out, its not hard to look at the White Sox and truly now realize we will never be able to put a sustained winner on the field because we will A. Never sign a superstar free agent to the contract they would demand B. Never resign a homegrown/traded superstar to the contract they would demand C. Never spend to supplement or round out a championship caliber roster4 points

Sox last year while playing anybody and everybody else in the OF ,... Colas isn't ready. Colas the minute the season ends ... "Hey white sox writers/water carriers ... start writing pieces about how he's amazing and can be the immediate opening day RF cause we're too cheap to sign someone. Amazing how that works. If he's ready for Opening Day, then he should've been out their in RF last year. \4 points
