I feel like you’re underrating Hendriks. 2/29 for one of the best relievers in baseball is a bargain McCann should be free7 points

Signing Grandal was 1000000000% a great move. Sox need to make more moves like that, not less. Sox fans can't have it both ways and complain that Sox don't sign FAs and then complain when they have to pay them on the backend of their deal.6 points

Vaginas are way stronger and resilient than this guy. No need to insult women by lumping in Hahn.6 points

Why spend 8M on a good player when you can set 5M on fire for a bad one instead?5 points

Don't think it effects a possible TA market either way. More so teams that could be in on Correa if he becomes available again. Mets wanted him for sure. Would need to definitely move some players to make it work. Longshot, but could be beneficial.5 points

Our bullpen definitely isn’t thin when you compare it to other bullpens across the league.4 points

Blehhh. Have a hard time seeing how moving TA benefits the Sox.4 points

I look at teams like the Astros and Cleveland who hit their catchers 9th, prioritize defense, and spend their money elsewhere as pretty good models. Personally, if I was looking at the number one issue facing the Sox in 2023-2024, it’s starting pitching depth. They have like one guy behind their top 5, and then 3 of those guys are FA at the end of ‘23. Any asset we can use to get a cromulent catcher would probably be better spent on potential starters.4 points

God, what a pointless fuckin argument no one else cares about.4 points

Graveman…or knowing the Sox, they will sign Kimbrel because he can actually close now.4 points

We are paying Leury just $3M a year less for -150000 year he production3 points

it is this reason why I think sox try to do a grandal/perez swap3 points

Depending on how it unfolds, this Correa situation could benefit the Sox.3 points

Both of those guys are making close to what Liam makes. Would that even be considered a salary dump for us?3 points

If the Sox give up Liam and take back McCann, I'm banking on cocaine flowing freely in Queens and asking for Baty like I mentioned before. It's a big ask, but also, f*** that noise.3 points

Cohen or Eppler probably read here that our most intelligent fans were demanding the most valuable Met (by a large margin) and decided to just pay Ottavino instead.2 points

Meh. The problem isn’t that our highest paid free agent is Benintendi per se. It’s that the highest paid free dollar amount is only $75M. Should be someone else higher than that amount in the year 2022 for a major market team. Contract overall is fine.2 points

It doesn’t have to be cost cutting. There is a a 3rd option of reallocating that $ to fill other needs.2 points

Hendriks would be way more valuable to the Mets this year than any of their prospects.2 points
-
I don’t think we have the farm system, ability to uncover hidden gems, or free agency flexibility that allows us a luxury such as Hendriks at closer with his age and salary. Trade him for a haul and figure out closer another way.2 points
-
If it’s only 1 prospect coming back it has to be either Alvarez or Parada. The combo of power and ability to play middle infield is obviously intriguing with Mauricio, but no way we should be trading Hendricks for a prospect that refuses to walk and has a questionable hit tool.2 points

Is it bad that pretty much nothing from the Mets for Liam sounds good? They seem like a pretty piss poor trade partner.2 points

I mostly just want this trade to happen with the Mets for the music and intros. Imagine Liam coming out to the didgeridoo before Diaz and his trumpet intro. Make it happen.2 points

Seattle: possibly, if they think Flexen is a legit #4 or so. Kelenic is just a shot in the dark, but fine for a throw-in. NY: ridiculous to have to throw in Crochet for this. This isn't "top prospect in baseball" Torres - he's an up and down player whose D grades out poorly. Tex: Negative. We have several guys who assuredly can match Smith's c. 550 OPS. Dunning doesn't seem to have made much progress.2 points

I'm scared. I love Liam. But I also love the idea of some of the Mets young players/prospect pieces. Mainly terrified that Hahn fucks this up.2 points

That' valid. They definitely didn't have strong leadership, or any leadership last year for that matter. Someone needed to save him from himself as he wasn't doing anyone any favors by playing.2 points

I feel like this is easy to say in hindsight. They were attempting to make a comeback in the division. They needed a lefty bat with some pop. During Grandal's rehab, he had a combined OPS of 1.235 between Birmingham and Charlotte, and it looked like he had some pop. He hit a few home runs during his short, 12-game rehab stint. There was no indication that he was toast, and the Sox really needed his bat. The year before, he came back from an injury in late August and completely carried the offense for the final month of the regular season. It was worth taking the risk that he could do it again. Yes, it turned out that it was a horrible idea, but at the time, I don't think it was a bad decision.2 points

Just to point this out…if Grandal’s back was in such bad shape last year that it dramatically limited his performance… Grandal went on the IL midseason. They called up Zavala to replace him. Although some of it was luck, Zavala was surprisingly good and had improved on blocking the plate, his biggest issue from the previous year. But, Zavala was out of options, so they couldn’t release him. They had another catcher, Reese McGuire, who wasn’t special with the bat but was quality on defense. He also had no options remaining. When Grandal came off the IL, they had no choice but to move one of them, and so Reese was traded to Boston for Diekman. Had Grandal been moved to the 60 day IL and told to come back after fully rehabbing his back, the Sox wouldn’t be stuck with Diekman’s money, and they’d have an extra rotation catcher who had a strong second half already. If Grandal’s back wasn’t healthy enough to start this year, which seems possible, they wouldn’t have to panic. Just another case where rushing a guy back from injury cascaded through the whole roster.2 points

Yeah I lost 27 pounds from beginning of May through September. Did like a month of keto to drop weight quick and then let myself cheat like once a week and mostly stayed low carb. Then fall hit and then I wasn’t as strict. Walking every day on my break for an hour during the summer months helped drop a lot of weight since you’re drenched in sweat on those hot days. I need to get back to keto and walking every day.2 points

I wish, I mostly just get to follow @DirtySox on minor league nights while i get my kids ready for bed. Defensively I'm not sure I could evaluate a catcher either, mostly just notice when things go bad. However, I have tried to find this answer and it feels like getting defensive evaluations out of scout writers for catcher is like pulling teeth. I emailed BA after a prospect writeup with Perez where the only defensive mention was that the sox liked his defense asking for their own evaluation. They responded "the piece mentions the sox thinking his defense plays" and I responded that the sox said that about Zach Collins and they never responded. The early writeups on his defense when he was 17-18 all mentioned it as a strength, now it's hardly mentioned, which probably means its average but could be worse. As I mentioned earlier, there was some reports with Cueto down there that it dramatically improved Perez's game calling, which may mean it was bad and may be why he's passed over a lot in getting time up here. He was much better holding runners before AAA, routinely at 40% or above, now at just 28% in AAA. However, that may be a sign that the new pick-off rules may really pressure catchers. To be honest, this may be a reason sox freaked out and went after Murphy. If Michael kopech lets anyone on they will be on third base. Passed Balls look fine, but a lot of catchers that are bad at passed balls look fine if you only look at stats. So basically I have no idea what we'll get. Usually defense for catchers is mentioned when they are bad hitters or truly good at it or a top prospect. Perez is in that murky middle, and when we only have notes from the white sox, it's never good.2 points

We can only guess obviously - but back surgery is a really big life decision. Many times back surgeries go the wrong way, and then you're stuck with the fallout for the rest of your life. If his back problem doesn't affect his regular life in a negative way, and knowing his baseball career is near the end regardless, then he probably made the best choice for himself.2 points

I got married a couple of years and ago, and that was the motivation for me finally trying hard to lose weight. I lost 40lbs in 4 months leading up to my wedding doing Keto. A little over 2 years later I'm still down 75 lbs overall right now. Was down as much as 81lbs at one point, but I cheat around the holidays.2 points

Unless I've missed something substantive, I've always thought this was just a narrative spread by people who don't like the way he plays. Nobody has ever said anything negative about him like they have with someone like Josh Donaldson. And speaking of which, the way Grandal stood up for Anderson during that weekend makes him seem like a good teammate if anything2 points
