Vaughn did the right thing, first of all TA was staggering, any more punches and he would have been out for the count, a referee would have stopped the fight. Second If TA still had his senses and wanted to continue the fight, that could have led to who knows what and could have led to a longer suspension. To say that the team didn’t support TA is bull crap by Betts and Carroll, every member of the team came out of the dugout and bullpen to support TA and there was the usual pushing and shoving that you see in most baseball fights.7 points

Without reading any replies before posting, let me be clear. These two grown men squared up with each other. They were both willing combatants. These fucking morons think the other players should have jumped Ramirez or something? Your boy put up his fists first and proceeded to get slapped off his feet. He took the L. The fight is over. You wanna throw a brushback pitch at Ramirez the next time he’s up? Go for it. You don’t “protect your boy” when he gets himself into a fair fight and loses. You get his knocked-the-f***-out ass out of there to prevent further damage, just like they did. Then you probably have a conversation with your boy about not talking s%*# and getting into fights when you clearly can’t fight.6 points

https://www.mlb.com/amp/news/white-sox-produce-fitted-in-black-documentary.html White Sox released a short trailer (included in the link above) teasing the documentary that will air on August 24. The hat's first non-baseball mainstream appearance came in Ice Cube's famous Steady Mobbin' music video that came out in 1991. With new uniforms in place, the White Sox also welcomed star players and personalities like Frank Thomas and Bo Jackson into the fold.5 points

Since 2013, only the Rockies, Reds, Detroit and Miami have fewer wins than the Sox, and my guess is the Reds overtake the Sox by the end of the season, as they are only 5 games worse than the Sox during that time. The Angels, A's and Pirates all have more wins than the Sox in the last decade. Royals too. The Sox are objectively one of the worst teams in MLB over the last decade.5 points

I agree. TA's kind of like your little brother for everyone that has one. He's popping off all the time, deserving to be beat up. He drives you crazy, you'd like to pop him from time to time. But once someone else tries to pop him, it should be on. On the other hand though, it's easy from afar to say someone should have ben swinging, but reality is probably a bit different. I also don't know how you are defending TA by punching some other random player. And as you said, getting his knocked out ass off the field was a great service to him. His mouth was still going.5 points

It was TA's fault, he squared up like a tough guy and got put on his backside, Vaughn and the others were protecting him from himself, he was clearly concussed and barely able to walk, letting him get knocked over again would be stupid. Not punching someone doesnt make you weak, violence is the first resort of the 'emotional retard'. It showed more 'leadership' for Vaughn to step in and protect a team mate by removing him from further harm than if he flew in like a meathead and punched a few guys.5 points

I dont understand this. Great so if your brother in law got into a fight and the fight was 1 on 1 and he lost you would jump in with friends to finish it. That seems about right. Some of us played baseball above the little league level. My college teammates are some of my best friends to this day. My brothers. Some of which played in the minors. I had 3 stand up in my wedding. One of which is my sons godfather. We must of missed the memo on if a one on one fight goes bad to attack in a group to finish it. Or that it was like tag team wrestling and we were allowed to sub in. During any bench clearing fights the entire point of being out there was to prevent exactly what you are talking about. To prevent people from ganging up or to the point taking cheap shots. The players separated the individuals involved and then it settled. Now granted someone was more likely to get a ball in the ribs the day after. But for the most part it cleared up. At no point was it like some sort of 1950s scene where we had a multiplayer brawl on the field, attacking people in groups. The struggle, the long practices, the many years playing together, and the competition that is what breeds the brotherhood. Not because the infield could hold down the offending guy while the first baseman worked him over. Maybe they can fight like its anchorman.4 points

If more White Sox would've backed up Anderson by throwing punches, the prevailing story would have been that this team is as bad as their fans....remember the Ligues attacking the Royals coach.? Screw Betts...Vaughn did the right thing getting Tim out of there. TA threw down his gloves, Ramirez finished the fight by knocking him down.4 points

He's playing nearly three years under the average age in AA, and like @Timmy Usaid, sticking at third shouldn't be an issue. He's improved a good deal at the hot corner.4 points

I'm cool with Lambert. Yea, he's not that good of a pitcher, but he's a long-time farmhand and it's good that he gets some ML pay during this lost season. Probably not the guy for extra innings though.3 points

Serving pain haha. First of all, it wasn’t a brawl. It was a one-on-one fight. And to call Ramirez soft after he put our guy on his ass is hilarious. He may be soft, but what does that make our guy? Neither one of them looked like they’d ever thrown a punch before, but the results are what they are.3 points

This is so dumb. Why should a player risk their health and millions because TAss squared up on someone and got clapped? I would only defend a teammate with hands if they were in real danger or they were getting jumped. Outside of that, I'm just trying to break the fight up to prevent people from getting knocked out.3 points

You can't play baseball like you play football that's for sure. To the extent "sparks" happen you at least need the kindling. As you noted, this team doesn't have enough good players to spark anything. Usually it would piss me off to have so many people taking shots at the Sox but right now I'm enjoying it. Give this sad sack org all the crap it deserves.3 points

I love that KW is gambling on a bunch of former top pitching prospects: Honeywell (#14 overall per BA in 2018) Patino (#18 overall per BA in 2020) Toussaint (#53 overall per BA in 2019) Garcia (#55 overall per BA in 2021) If even one of these guys reaches a fraction of their ceiling, it’s a huge win for us. Giving guys like this an opportunity is exactly what we should be doing in a lost season…Pedro be damned.3 points

This is the same guy, who when things got tough, openly tried for the Marlins job - while actually still employed by the Sox. He's not loyal or good with clubhouse issues. He himself was a cancer.3 points

Vaughn did the right thing. Had TA taken another punch, he probably would have been in concussion protocol. The fight was over as soon as he was knocked to the ground. None of Ramirez's teammates continued to throw punches. There was a lot of yelling and minor pushing, but it really wasn't a brawl. To call out the Sox for not defensing TA is ridiculous. Why not call out the Guardians for not backing up Ramirez?3 points

I have watched Ramos play a lot. No doubt 3b. Not flashy like Moncada, but not Burger ever. Much better defensively than say Junior Caminero.3 points
-
Utter nonsense, so Betts thinks more White Sox players should have been throwing punches? How come no other Guardians players threw punches? Does that mean they don't support Ramirez? As a former teacher the 'fight' was just like so many playground fights, after 1 or 2 punches it virtually always degenerates into pushing and shoving and 'hold me back' posturing.3 points

I will never understand how the two guys they got for Sale went from physical freaks to mediocre skilled players2 points

Marlins too. With the As they actually had been decent until their owner decided to actively get bad so he can force a move to Vegas. In the 10 years from 2012 to 2021 the were above 500 7 times and over 90 5 times. They didn't win it all but they were a respectable franchise until their owner decided it was time to blow it up completely.2 points

Must have been another Boyer/Merkin/Reifert brainchild to take the focus off the field...2 points

The walks just kill me. Between not taking any and giving out so many. Doesn't take much analytics to figure out that if you are in the top half of issuing and bottom half taking you will be unsuccessful as a team. If the White Sox do hold SoxFest this year. This is the number #1 question I want answered. What are you going to do as an organization to address the fact your walk differential alone makes you unable to make the postseason. At this point, its an organizational problem.2 points

He challenged him with a finger in his face. Good lord are you soft. The first one to put up their fists was Timmy. Timmy got in a few punches and then got clocked. This is not a "I had to defend myself or it was fight or flight. Timmy decided that he wanted to fight. And he got one. So the plan here is, if I get into a fight that I throw the first punch and I start to lose. Jump him with the rest of the team. LOL. Now you would be singing a different tune if Timmy knocked out Ramirez with one of his 3 punches. If that happened would it been fine for Cleveland to jump him in mass.2 points

Well, Ozzie managed players well for many years. So this "culture problem", whatever that is, probably wouldn't have happened. The WS was won with pitching, defense, and homers. But once Ozzie got more say into personnel decisions, the team started to decline. Ozzie wanted to transform the team into slap hitters who could run and bunt, with defense secondary. And he didn't really care about OBP from his slappers either. Pierre, Erstad, and, of course, Jerry Owens over Quentin. He loved Wise - sub .300 OBP = leadoff hitter. 08? Sox won the division that year despite Ozzie.2 points

I would agree with you but this season is over and any effect of team bonding over a fight would have worn off by next season. Maybe something similar at the start of the season could have helped bring the clubhouse together but I think the underlying issues with this squad are far greater than being solved by a bit of team spirit. But certainly this is a clubhouse that appears to have no spirit, no team ethic, no leadership from within and no leadership from above. I think the biggest laugh from this incident was that Eloy managed to injure himself and it wasn't through any opposition violence it was get his toe trod on probably by one of his own team. That just about sums up this team.2 points

If playing Elvis is your way to try to avoid 100 losses, it says a lot about where the organization is. And if major league wins right now are more important than development, why did the Sox trade all those guys at the deadline? These guys couldn't be straight with you if they tried. Pedro is in way over his head. Fire his ass with the rest of them.2 points

Here were Pedro’s key goals for the club this year: “We will communicate” - Can’t be good when guys aren’t pulling for each other and when our CF doesn’t even know the bench coach’s name “We will be fundamentally sound” - Still lots of stupid on a regular basis “We will play with passion and pride for this uniform. This means something.” - Majority of team has played with little passion and a complete lack of urgency as the season quickly withered away “We will respect the game, our fans, and earn their trust” - Perhaps the least fun Sox team I have ever watched (largely due to issues above) and fan interest is at an all-time low “We will control the strike zone on both sides of the ball…” - Currently ranked dead last in offensive walk rate and 2nd worst in pitching walk rate “We will work hard and play winning baseball every night and definitely will hold each other accountable.” - 4th worst record in all of baseball and we now have proof there are no rules or accountability What a fucking fraud. Send his ass back to KC where he belongs.2 points
