from BA Him developing this, in the White Sox organization, is so wild. A huge testament to his natural ability and work ethic. What an awesome prospect.4 points

No, they traded the #1 pick because 1. They knew they didn't know what they had in Fields or the offense due to lack of pieces around him 2. The QB crop was considered weak with heavily flawed prospects 3. They were able to obtain not only quality assets, but multiply those assets from one 4. This year's QB class is considered really strong with 2 guys who would go #1 in any draft who play the QB position Offense changes when you have to bring the backup QB in, only if that team has contender aspirations. The Bears are not a contender. Heck, before JF showed us what he had this year, the Bears were considered a fringe playoff team at best. There's no reason to change the offense which means changing schemes, changing development work for the rest of the offense because a guy cannot process the field. And yes, offenses change when new coordinators come in. Why? Because the new coordinator knows how to run their offense, not something else. Getsy is not a new coordinator, he's trying to implement his philosophies. Just last year, he was getting praise and being talked up as a potential HC candidate down the line. Now, because Justin struggles, it's because Getsy suddenly forgot what offense is? That's ridiculous. Martz, Getsy, Nagy, whether you like them or not, are professional OCs who all know that you have to be able to pass the ball in the NFL to win. Getsy and Nagy have struggled to get JF to read a field or throw with any anticipation. What's nuts is wanting to change an offense for the 6th time in 10 years and blaming the OC as if the players to run the offense are enough. That's asinine to me. Can't wait for next week's game asking the Bears to play "Bear football" and run the ball 100 times, then complain two weeks later when teams see it coming and they can't get more than 100 yards of total offense.3 points

Considering Greg has been well known for his absolutely insane optimism for years, him being pessimistic is a sight I thought I'd never see... only took him what.. 15-20 years here?3 points

Yoelqui Cespedes will probably suffer the same fate down the road too. I'll never understand this organization's obsession to sign international players that are old. Abreu was the only guy that worked but his bat was absolutely special in Cuba (not to mention Sox got lucky he was a 1B and many teams weren't interested at the time).3 points

I applaud Getz for hiring a real staff around him, from different organizations across baseball. And Banninster and Barfield seem to have a somewhat "current" approach to baseball which we should all appreciate. A decent first step2 points

There were four extra inning games in Oakland that year. They went 10, 19,11 and 15 innings. Sox won two of them.2 points

A lot of stuff. 1st - COVID. Gave everyone an extra year of availability. It also led to only a 5 round draft in 2020 that pushed a lot of "draft eligible" players that may have entered MLB to go back an extra year, leading to a cascade effect of a lot of older prospects entering the system each year as the next borderline guy gets crowded out. 2nd - He tore his ACL in 2021, despite that, he didn't elect for surgery, going thru rehab and then coming back a month later. But that relegated him to first. He elected to come back another year, where they won the CWS. He always K'd a lot, had big power, was a corner infielder. But he's awesome. He may not be an awesome major leaguer, very likely not, but obviously put his name on the game of baseball as a whole more than most ball players ever will.2 points

The scary thing is it was obvious that most of the issues he was having at the plate was due to this, but I guess people on here are smarter than the hitting coaches with the Sox:2 points

Right -- it's not like they teach bad habits or anything, it just seems like they don't do anything at all. At least with regard to position players. I've said it before, but every player that makes it to the majors with the Sox is essentially the same player that he was when they acquired him, just with more reps. If they manage to get guys that are so talented that their ability trumps their flaws, then they'll be MLB players -- but they'll never be as good as they could be if they were actually developed. TA when drafted: raw, extremely talented. Good instincts, good bat-to-ball skills, but overly aggressive in his approach and prone to unforced errors on defense. TA at MLB level: raw, extremely talented. Good instincts, good bat-to-ball skills, but overly aggressive in his approach and prone to unforced errors on defense. Eloy when acquired: huge power, good hit. Quickly outgrowing every position, but the bat will play anywhere. Could hit 20 homers in the MLB today even though he hasn't played past AA. Eloy at MLB level: huge power, good hit. Quickly outgrew every position, but the bat will play anywhere. Topped out at 20 homers due to no improvement in approach and the fact that he never learned how to move in his body. It's the same with all the rest, even Robert. The guy still has no clue how to choose a pitch to hit, he's just so good that he's still able to succeed. But imagine how good he COULD be. Montgomery seems like he'll be that, too.2 points

Are u serious? If they do the tank thing again they will have to move. NO FANS will support that again. Honestly if they go the tank route just to get No. 1 or 2 draft picks when they don't know who the hell to draft, I am speechless. I would be in favor of MLB completely getting rid of a couple teams, including our White Sox, if they decide to purposely reek the next 3-5 seasons while supposedly rebuilding. The only 2 guys who 'might' get us anything in tank-light trades are Robert, TA and Moncada maybe. Hope u are wrong!2 points

Because that's been systematically our complaint the last 5 years, the White Sox use their computers too much and need more people who go with their guts.2 points

September 19, 1925 - The White Sox set the franchise record (since tied) for the largest shutout margin in team history when they blanked the Senators 17-0 at Washington. The game was the back half of a twin bill. Ted Lyons would throw a one-hitter, losing his no-hitter with two outs in the ninth inning on a bloop single to right by Bobby Veach over the head of first baseman Earl Sheely. Sheely had the big offensive game for the Sox going 4 for 6 with four RBI’s and two runs scored. The Sox had a seven run, second inning and an eight run, fifth inning. September 19, 1972 – It was one of the wildest games the White Sox ever played. Facing the A’s in Oakland and fighting to stay alive in the pennant race, the Sox beat Oakland 8-7 in 15 innings in a game that took almost five hours to play. The Sox couldn’t hold leads of 5-3 in the ninth inning or 7-5 in the 13th but wound up winning on a George Orta home run. Rich “Goose” Gossage, the last of seven pitcher’s manager Chuck Tanner used on the night, got the win. A Major League record (for the time) 51 players were used in the game, 21 by the White Sox and 30 by the A’s. That record has since been broken. September 19, 1986 - Sox pitcher Joe Cowley made the record books by no-hitting the Angels in Anaheim 7-1. It was an unusual no-hitter. Cowley walked seven, including three straight in the sixth inning, when California got their run. He also struck out eight and threw a total of 138 pitches. It was only the 12th time in big league history a club got no-hit…but scored a run! Ironically it would be Cowley’s last win in the big leagues as he lost his final two starts that year, was traded to the Phillies where he went 0-4, was demoted to Triple-A Maine and retired.1 point

Someone pointed out at one point he hit 8 straight ground balls. The eye test and his numbers say he's been meh.1 point

I can’t remember exactly how many extra inning games we played against the A’s in Oakland in 1972 but it seemed like a lot as I stayed up late losing a lot of sleep watching or listening to those games, they were really exciting games and a good pennant race which maybe could have been won by the Sox if Melton hadn’t hurt his back in June as he was out for the rest of the year.1 point

I agree. Most teams are using the data more not less. Not that the scouts aren't important, I still think they should have more say than straight computer analysis, but it's important to get data from all perspectives not drown one out.1 point

Eloy has issues but topping out at 20 homers isn't one of them - he hit 31 in his rookie year (122 games) and has averaged 34 in 162 games. He just can't stay on the field to ever get there. This year is the most disappointing to me, as he's going to play in 125+ games but with .70 less SLG points than his rookie year.1 point

Winning with honor and class is what is important. Winning a piece of metal with dishonor creates problems far worse than losing a game, solves nothing. The White Sox won their World Series with Bobby Jenks on the mound, the Cubs Aroldis Chapman. Grateful I have the Sox memory and not the Cubs. Rocky Wirtz' organIzation covered up Brad Aldrich's crimes instead of doing the right thing and reporting him to the police. The Astros Brandon Taubman was fired for taunting women reporters in the press box with "Thank God we got Osuna! I'm so fucking glad we got Osuna!". Northwestern, Penn State, Oho State, Michigan State, likely additional "Big" "Ten" teams. Doesn't matter if they have the all time winning coach and national titles. They all ended in dishonor and disgrace.1 point

Just a heads up for something I discovered a few weeks ago - I use the Libby app to check out ebooks through my local library, and surprised to see that they offer Baseball America as part of the magazines you can electronically check out. Thought it might be worth letting some of our minor league followers know that if they have a library card, it might be worth checking the Libby app to see if you have free access to BA.1 point

Sox hitting coaches: "Looking great Colson! We think we just a few minor adjustments you could be even better, though. Instead of being selective and driving the ball, we think you should swing at everything and hit grounders up the middle and to the opposite field!"1 point

They are badly missing the plot if they think "speed and athleticism" is the reason this team was terrible this year and didn't make the playoffs last year. But that would be about right for this organization.1 point

Thanks, we will check that out next time. Baby steps, I’ve got a lifetime to go with my son and we had a great time regardless. I’ve got great memories that I wanted to get! They need to move on and market to something else. Like do a giveaway for cancer awareness and put Liam on it. It’s more relevant and marketable than a team most of the stadium didn’t grasp. You’re right, the offense sucked.1 point

The Chicago way also to bury this story, clamp down on the detectives and the CPD from pursuing this further. http://secondcitycop.blogspot.com/2023/09/seeing-cover-ups.html?m=1 The CPS teacher shooter is lying and not cooperative. Jerry is lying, and his security as seen throughout this season in various brawls is as shoddy as his on field product. If only this were a kid handing out free popcorn, Jerry and his security would have pounced on this instantaneously.1 point

Eloy is now Jaun Pierre without the speed. He should improve his bunting as well. Someone said the Sox should put out an ad seeking the best hitting coach. If they are not you fire them. Hitting coaches are hired to get fired. TLR and Dusty did it a lot. As for Katz you have to try someone else. They should've promoted Coop into development and scouting. The old school guys make not look at the popular spreadsheets but they can still spot delivery and arm angle and say no that's not gonna work.1 point
