I too am predicting a move may happen during the time of the offseason where much activity happens.8 points
-
Which probably makes sense unless they get what they want from Baltimore, Arizona, Cincy etc. Something to note: JP Morosi has an obvious connection to Chris Getz from their Michigan backgrounds. He's broken some Getz news in past etc. Sox wanted that report out there yesterday for whatever reason.5 points

Good, keep clearing out dead wood. I'll say that given the s%*# sandwich he inherited so far Getz is doing the (straightforward) but necessary first steps to improve the overall state of things over the next few seasons.4 points

You know my belief about budgets. Not spending money on free agency is a choice, not a necessity. If they want me to believe otherwise, open the damn books and prove it.4 points
-
Exactly, if the price is met then do the deal. They can still wait for those others to sign.4 points
-
Cause if you a set a price and a team pays it, you take it. Just make sure it's a good price.4 points

I think you just figured out a way to cut payroll both now AND in 7 years. A visionary, you are.3 points
-
They can cut guys after a move is made. Doesn't have to be in anticipation of a move happening. It does make sense if they want to take someone in the Rule 5 Draft though.3 points

There’s no reason not to wait. Yamamoto’s posting window is known and limited. No team is grading Imanaga/Uwasawa in the same class as Cease, and Glasnow costs four times as much in terms of salary and with only one year of control. Half the teams will rightfully balk at Snell’s price because of his peripherals. There will come a time in January when Cease is the premier piece on the market, both free agent and trade, and there are already more suitors than available alternatives.3 points

Don't let Jerry see my post! Packaging Moncada with Cease at the expense of prospects in return is music to his ears.2 points

I mean, how big league ready is his defense and pitcher handling? It's worth asking, he'd be better than spending a couple million on Hedges.2 points

"The Padres left catcher Brandon Valenzuela unprotected from the Rule 5 Draft, meaning he can potentially be selected by any club but must remain on that team's big league roster for the season. It'll be interesting to see whether another team bites on a 23-year-old defense-first catcher who posted a .711 OPS between High-A Fort Wayne and Double-A San Antonio last season." They can take multiple Rule 5 guys if they want to, right? Because that might be a good idea given how much trash is on the 40-man.2 points

That's former 2018 #7 overall draft pick Adam Haseley and assassin of Danny Mendick, mind you.2 points

Could be. Definitely clearing space for something, whether it's readying for the winter meetings or something is currently cooking.2 points

Well, I mostly would say it doesn't matter at all and more talent is more talent. But I do still want to stress that Gonzalez extremely sucks.2 points

Fans of the 71 win Cardinals debating whether they can possibly part with Edman, Donovan, O'neill or Carlson for a Cease trade.2 points

According to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal (subscription required), Chicago general manager Chris Getz has informed interested teams that he will likely wait until the top free-agent starting pitchers are off the board to move Cease.2 points

They were using a pre-tacked ball. Believe they reverted back to a normal ball at some point. Regardless, Mena has always struck out a lot of guys. At every stop. He's one of my favorite prospects. Relies so heavily on his breaking stuff though. I imagine he starts out in Charlotte? Hard to discount a guy who is only 20 doing what he's doing. Especially if it continues in AAA.2 points

bummer. sorry. Hall Scouting Report: Hall pitches off an elite fastball from the left side. The pitch averaged 95.6 mph in the big leagues in 2023 and has routinely sat in the upper 90s over the last few years, with above-average hop and the ability to miss bats up in the zone. Hall pitched with diminished velocity at Triple-A earlier in the season, but he learned to better work with his secondary pitches and use them effectively in the zone. His mid-80s changeup has developed later in his career into a plus pitch and represents his best offering to righthanded hitters, while his slider in the mid-to-high 80s is a plus pitch at its best and is his primary way of attacking lefties. Hall reintroduced his curveball, his best pitch as an amateur, giving him a fourth pitch that could be above-average or better. Perhaps most importantly, he improved his command and threw more strikes in 2023 than in years past, giving hope that he’ll be able to reach his upside and be able to have enough control to stay in the rotation. The Future: In a brief sample down the stretch in 2023, Hall showed he can be a potentially elite reliever, but the Orioles still believe his electric four-pitch mix from the left side is that of a starter. He’ll be in the majors in 2024 as long as he’s healthy, though the team’s offseason moves might determine his role.2 points

It still leaves us with 3 DH /1st basemen useless baserunners and terrible fielders.1 point

That would be the far likelier scenario, but not a bold prediction. The Saturday before the Winter Meetings is swing for the fences!1 point

No one on this board or in the Sox FO would say no to that deal. I wonder if that's truly a "hypothetical" or something Heyman actually heard.1 point

The problem with this, is Flaherty stinks and the problem with Gio is his stuff not his mechanics.1 point

Stacey King also thinks it's 1990 and that consistently feeding the ball to Vuc in the post is good idea. The guy is a moron.1 point

Even if they took Hall out, I’d say yes to the other 3. Bradfield would be a GREAT 3rd piece1 point

He's a smooth talking corporate boot licker. It should be no surprise that he's kept his job. That dude is totally out of his league and is getting by on buzzwords and doing exactly as he's told from mgmt. He knows he will never get another MLB manager job or salary so he will do whatever he can to string it out as long as possible. He's basically just like the guy that hired him in a sense.1 point

There's a lot of interesting guys out there. Especially on the pitching side imo. Hopefully they drop the pretense of competing and bring in some of these names. https://www.mlb.com/news/one-intriguing-rule-5-draft-prospect-for-each-team1 point

All the sports blab radio down here in South Carolina (Braves country) is assuming that the Braves have Cease essentially done and the Sox are waiting for someone to outbid them. Judging by past offseasons, I think they are just assuming it based on Morosi's tweet.1 point

Noticing a trend, what are they hiding under those things?Untrustworthy. Lance and keuchel are particularly funny, I guess it’s the phantom napper’s fault he nearly set the record for home runs given up. I think the highest hr/9 for qualified starters ever.1 point

I barely think about him "overcoming obstacles" I just enjoy his broadcasts. While I'm not into the cheesy parts that fill time, I find him to be one of the most educated and modern broadcasters available. Didn't they have him doing a "modern broadcast" during the AS game or something like that this year on ESPN2? That's why I like him, I get to hear a discussion of how offensive production actually works rather than a discussion of how important it is to bunt all the time. I also found him quite good during the 2020-2021 seasons when there were actually a handful of dramatic games, and I think some of the stuff people like less was more emphasized in 2022 and 2023 because they had so little drama.1 point
