If true, it’s the best news for the Cease trade front IMO.3 points

They both have championships in the past four years.3 points

I fully support his right to hold out for the highest bidder and maximize his earnings. With that said, as a fan of baseball who is completely bored out of their minds waiting for the Hot Stove to actually heat up, holy s%*# dude, hurry it up!3 points

I blame the MLB system, not the players.3 points

If it's not this season, 2025/26 pretty much have to be "all in" seasons for the Orioles. Because those young players are eventually going to get expensive in arbitration...even if they do move the likes of Santander Hays Mullins, etc.2 points

The Dodgers experienced 2023 Lance Lynn and committed more than $1.2 billion (and prospects) to three players. The White Sox did that and decided to rebuild.2 points

All 30 teams had a chance to win. The Dodgers won. It's not an asterisk like the Trash Can Astros. They're also consistently providing their fans with exciting baseball every season and going to the playoffs for a decade.2 points

Seems like this thing could wrap up in the next day or two with teams actually being eliminated from the bidding2 points

Whatever long term deal Bellinger signs is going to be awful quick I feel.2 points

Remember when we all stupidly believed the Sox might sign a star player in their prime? Those were the days.2 points

Seems unnecessary to make a rule change for something that happened 24 times across 2430 games to potentially save 3 minutes per instance.2 points

I do think if they miss on Yamamoto the Dodgers will shift to Cease. I also think for the Sox to get the best return the Dodgers have to be involved to push the market. They will be very aggressive while the other teams seem fine to just sit back and wait for the Sox to accept their offer.2 points

Chicago is an improv powerhouse. A lot of young, comedic actors come from here. Good odds that it was a cast members jersey laying around backstage and she just grabbed it and threw it on. Cool nonetheless. I like her. Snl not so much.2 points

This dickhead has to sign with anyone but the Dodgers and do it soon.2 points

I mean, it's the offseason and of all jerseys, a Peavy jersey is super radom to see from a Gen Z superstar from LA. It does help reinforce the argument that deviating from the current jerseys/hats would be branding suicide.2 points

Maybe they just aren’t interested, but I’m surprised at not really seeing much rumored interest from the DBacks. Cease fills a need for a team looking to capitalize on and sustain their success from last year without breaking their budget. Also think Tommy Troy and Yu-Min Lin is as strong of a start to a package as we could ask for.2 points

BAL- YES....where do I sign? CIN-YES but I'd like to take Stewart out and replace with Jorge if possible. No to ATL, SD and TEX2 points

Yeah thats how I'm reading it too. Better than ATL worse than BAL.1 point

I'm reading this as a Cease deal will likely occur with LA if Yamamoto doesn't sign there.1 point

Blame the teams that aren't in on him for waiting. The Orioles and Reds aren't gonna sign him, so why wait to make moves? Because they aren't actually all-in on winning their divisions.1 point

This was an awesome game. Northwestern beating the best team in the country and losing to the worst program in the country is great.1 point

I understand the save on money thing and save on travel and all that. But Charlotte used to come to Indy. I remember going to a Knights game in Indy to watch Cease pitch, and there were a whole lot of Sox fans from the Region and Chicago to see him. Cease was scratched from starting, but that's not important; what's important is that we had a pretty good group behind the Charlotte dugout. I really think Sox management should (I know it's too late for this year already) get Charlotte back to Indy for a series every year, regardless of the money. It can't cost any more than going to Syracuse. The good of having fans from Chicago and Northwest Indiana seeing Charlotte at Indy seems like such a obvious conclusion. I don't understand why it doesn't happen. Seriously, think about if it happened this year. With all those young pitchers that we fans want to see; and to see Quero and Ramos. And think about Colson being from southern Indiana. His town would probably bring 500 people just to see him. If this upcoming Charlotte team played in Indy, on a Friday night this coming August, it's entirely possible that the game would outdraw a Sox game on that same Friday night, considering that the Sox might very well be 30 games under .500. by then. I'm not exaggerating. I think it could and would happen. I just don't get why this doesn't happen every year; again, it seems so obvious. It just seems like another middle finger to the fans from Sox ownership.1 point

That they were in the hunt for Glasnow, but decided not to give up the prospects it would have taken. Has no idea if they will make a big trade, but there are still a lot of conversations and things can always pick up after someone (Yamamoto, in this case I’m sure) signs. They’re getting Grissom outfield reps, which is something I wouldn’t be surprised if the Sox asked about.1 point

Lin could make sense in an Eloy trade, but I would be highly disappointed if he were the second piece in a Cease deal.1 point

For those with an Athletic subscription, there’s a long interview with Braves GM AA. Needless to say, they are very “in” on Cease.1 point

Signing ERod took them out of the hunt, IMO. Phillies are the new team I expect to hear linked to Cease.1 point

The MLB won’t mandate a model that doesn’t permit teams to seek the highest revenue choice for their own market. Those numbers you listed may pass your smell test for what seems reasonable for a fan to pay given the precedents set by the old model, but they only make sense if the ad sales can make up for the loss of carriage fees in the background, and that answer will vary greatly from market to market. The Yankees are not going to forfeit the profits from their enormously successful YES network in order to take the pressure off the Padres to figure out their own s%*#, for example. The “new normal” very well may end up looking something like you suggest, ultimately, if media-viewing habits continue to evolve such that RSNs become universally non-viable, but the league won’t be in a position to mandate a shift. Each team is scrambling to come up with a way to salvage or grow an important revenue stream, and the size and terms of those streams are different enough in each market such that a one-size-fits-all solution will have clear winners and losers among the teams, and the owners in a position to lose won’t stand for it. That message is 100% PR fluff. They made the decision that lost them the least amount of money in the short term.1 point

Padres felt the tradeoff was worth it due to almost doubling the base of fans they could reach... “While we’re disappointed that Diamond Sports Group failed to live up to their contractual agreement with the club, we are taking this opportunity to reimagine the distribution model, remove blackouts on local games, improve the telecast, and expand the reach of Padres games by more than 2 million homes,” MLB Chief Revenue Officer Noah Garden said in a statement. MLB announced Tuesday night that fans in the Padres’ home television market will be able to watch games on DirecTV, Cox, Spectrum, AT&T U-Verse and fubo. MLB will also offer a direct-to-consumer streaming subscription for $19.99 per month or $74.99 for the rest of the season by registering at MLB.TV. This is the first time MLB.TV is offering a DTC (direct-to-consumer) option in a team’s home market and also lifts the blackout rules that were in place for games previously distributed on Bally Sports San Diego. Padres games through Sunday will be available for free with an MLB login at MLB.com, Padres.com and in the MLB apps on mobile and connected devices. MLB said that the new arrangement expands the reach of Padres’ games in its home television market by 189% from approximately 1.13 million homes to approximately 3,264,000." https://apnews.com/article/padres-bally-sports-mlb-906f9f1ad0d66264b92b9cbe0ecd888a https://www.castiron.media/locations/san-diego/padres/ If you want to work selling advertising for MLB teams, here's your unique opportunity1 point

I don't put much stock in the Pirates rumor. Being from there originally, I follow the Pittsburgh sports teams. An insider hinted at a big move coming, and someone asked in the comments if it was Cease. The insider just said he'd be thrilled if it was. A big move for the Pirates most likely isn't going to be something like Cease; it'll more like a "meh" deal for most teams. I haven't really looked at Pittsburgh's prospects, so I don't even know who the Sox might target. Skenes is obviously off limits, and he's really the only guy I know anything about.1 point

Tales of SoxFest of lore….. 7,500 Sox Fans (2000-2001 Offseason) https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-xpm-2001-02-04-0102040371-story.html "We paid a high price to get David Wells," Williams told Sox fans. "Aces don't come cheap. It comes down to ultimately what you have to do to get to the next level, and for us, that's the championship level.” "Don't look at his body," Harold Baines said of Wells. "Look at what he does on the mound." Asked what David Wells might be able to teach him this year, Kip Wells responded, "He'll probably show me how to down some beers." Manager Jerry Manuel announced Jim Parque will start the home opener against Detroit on April 6 at Comiskey Park “That will bring all the `brawl thing' back," Manuel said, referring to Parque's igniting of the Sox-Tigers brawl last April. "That will be a good little thing. That'll bring people to the park."1 point

It’s just so maddening to me how people can’t see it with Fields. If you have to wait until these final weeks to make a decision, then the decision has already been made. We know what we have. Maybe he’s “good enough” for a fringe playoff team (which the Bears could be), but that shouldn’t be enough. Expect more, Bears fans. Start raising the expectations. We all wanted Fields to be the franchise QB, but it’s not working for him here.1 point
