Anyone know if the new fountains at the park will be in both left and right field or just right field?8 points

I can’t categorize any further influences from the Kansas City Royals as a “very exciting move”.8 points

You’re spending a considerable amount of time on the message board for a team that’s not even in your division. And getting upset about random posters’ inconsequential opinions. So….I imagine it means quite a bit….7 points

A little? Don’t care if it’s paper pushing or not. The organization got rid of Williams and Hahn probably a decade too late, and their replacements are the architects of another one of the worst franchises in sports. It’s a joke6 points

This is probably a perfectly fine qualified hired, but these fucking dopes do realize that there are 28 other orgs to pull from, right? Right???♀️??♀️6 points

Wong is a paper pusher. He'll have zero say in baseball ops. Chill LOL at Haber leaving on his own.6 points

Haber being out is fantastic news. I know nothing of Wong, I’m just flabbergasted that they can’t stop hiring former Royals. They’ve imported so much of their org garbage that it’s hard to view potentially good hires without the Royals taint.5 points

I was hoping for a scenario where the Bears trade down and draft Jayden Daniels or Penix Jr., but I don’t believe it would be worth the risk to slide below #3 and expect them to be available. We need to decide among Penix Jr./Daniels/Williams/Maye who is the one. Good luck Bears!3 points

Packers had a bunch of first and second year WRs. None drafted in the first round. PFF had them as a bottom 5 pass catching group entering the season. I believe the Texans were ranked last…3 points

The point is between Stroud last night and Love tonight, you watched QBs who can run a passing offense. Fields just can’t. He can’t take the 4 yard pass when the 12 yard route isn’t going to be open. He can’t move primarily thru the air. You are never going to throw 15 times in a row with him, you’ll be three and out. But when those QBs make a bad throw or are pressured they say “aw see they are just like fields”. It’s hilarious.3 points
-
Their line outside of Tunsil isn't very good either. Stroud is just a better QB. Better QBs get rid of the ball quicker and makes an entire offensive line look competent.3 points
-
This. There's absolutely no point in drafting a quarterback right now. Peak Tom Brady would suck and/or get injured behind this line. There are two generational LT in this draft and if the Bears don't get one of them, it doesn't matter a damn bit who their quarterback is. Also need a G and C but probably going to have to get at least one of those in free agency. Also, why the hell did the Bears keep running Cover 2 when Love was carving it up left and right? Blitz and play man and if you get burned at least it's a quick death rather than a slow one.3 points

With another loss to GB where the game wasn’t really all that close, if I’m Poles I’m taking this incredibly unique opportunity he created for himself (and deserves credit for) to get in a new staff and QB. You know the ceiling here. And it’s not a Super Bowl3 points

I wonder if the people who complain about the Royal hires ever worked for a garbage company. Do you now consider yourself unemployable because you worked under a shady or incompetent boss? Like, when you were 24, your boss was a spaz, and a bad manager. Do you ask prospective employers to take into mind that you were trained to fail when you interview? I think the complainers should post their resumes and highlight the part that asks to be paid the minimum allowable because you will inevitably fail at your job, and put all the wrong procedures into place at their company.3 points

Getz hiring former Royals in his front office shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. It’s where he worked prior to the Sox, he has lots of contact there. I’m not going to get worked up over a contract/budget/cba guy coming from Kansas City. I’m sure it’s a fine hire.3 points

I unfortunately just read a few pages of that thread on the Orioles forum. That was enlightening to put it mildly.3 points

What Harold said makes sense. Wong can assist with administrative duties, while Barfield assists in baseball ops. If this is how they’re dividing the “Assistant GM” title, I’m fine with it. Haber being gone is tremendous.3 points

The Royals have been above .500 three times the past twenty seasons. They were also .exactly 500 once. So like JR suggested in his press conference, their players and employees understand how special going 81-81 is. They are probably working to get a KC broadcaster out of their contract now to take over for Benetti.3 points

Alright guys you’ve shared your opinions. You can go back to the O’s page now.3 points

2 Top 100 plus two others is very reasonable...thats pretty much the framework we've been working off (ie Cowser/Kjerstad, Ortiz/Norby, Povich, lotto ticket). I'm fine with the 4th piece being a lotto ticket so long as the 3rd piece is a solid prospect. Certainly should not take less than that.3 points

The funny thing is that this Sports Guy rat and his other buddies here are reporting back to his Orioles message board trying to clown everything that is said here. Meanwhile, I don’t see any Sox fans posting anything at his Orioles board. This guy is a troll and should be thrown in the flaming dumpster that Getz is currently picking players from.3 points

Per Bob Nightengale: Jin Wong is currently the VP - Baseball Admin / Assistant GM. As the title & bio suggest, it sounds like Wong is being brought for a pure admin role. It appears that Haber’s reach into other areas (amateur scouting, analytics, etc.) will be parsed from this role and returned to the core owners of those functions. My guess is Haber wasn’t cool with the proposed decrease in responsibilities and that is why he is “expected to depart on his own”. While Wong is yet another Royal, he is obviously vastly experienced in this capacity and it’s far less egregious than signing more Grifol buddies.2 points

In Athletic, Bowden gives the Sox a "B". There's one A+, 3 B+, 8 B, and 18 teams lower than Sox. Cubs=C; Det=B; Cleve=C-; KC=B; Minn=B- "I love all of the pitching gambles… (Getz) emphasized makeup and character in a lot of his player moves, which should help improve team culture" The Sox are such a mess that Getz might be right in addressing culture first and then worrying about production https://theathletic.com/5176521/2024/01/05/mlb-offseason-grades-trades-signings/2 points

This is Wong's description of his own responsibilities with the Royals from his LinkedIn page. Do with it what you will.2 points
-
My problem, and I realize Wong in all probability will have very little say in the roster, but it's another KC guy who has the GMs eat and probability is very loyal to Grifol. How Pedro is still around is a joke.2 points

There’s risk to waiting for sure. But it’s also possible that in another 6 months we find out Joey Ortiz is indeed Madrigal 2.0 and Cowser is Stowers 2.0. Anything can happen and I’d sure be pissed to trade for those two as the headliners if that’s their outcome. I’m perfectly fine with Getz waiting for the guys he likes/wants rather than forcing a trade for a lesser return out of fear of Cease regressing further.2 points
-
To Harold’s point, this is now a pure administrative role. While it’s still a little annoying they keep hiring Royals guys, the guy has a lot of experience and I’m not sure this is the one that bothers me (Gene Watson is more worrisome IMO). Regardless, this is more about Haber getting removed from the org that is exciting.2 points
-
i don't see Getz waiting til the deadline, that extra time allows a really bad Sox team to severely diminish Cease's numbers, coupled with a half season less of control for whoever he's traded to, the return would be less than if he's traded now2 points
-
In all honesty, this is a very exciting move. Haber appeared to have too much influence in too many departments, which is never a good thing when you are super lean in many of those areas. Hopefully beyond just allowing the amateur scouting group to do their thing with minimal interference, we also see certain functions (like analytics) beefed up substantially. Also, as a side note, Wong actually departed the Royals org in October “on his own accord”, so it’s possible this has been in the works for some time.2 points

I guess. The same way the Sox have brought in three guys Fedde, Soroka, and Shuster. You can write names down, doesn’t mean they’re gonna stay healthy or not suck. I guess Manea has a chance in that ballpark. Nothing carries out to left.2 points

Figured this would be someone CWS would be interested in if they haven't decided to suck all together2 points

Well guys, here comes the game that should mean nothing in the assessment but will probably mean everything lol2 points

Teams are testing Getz resolve. They have to get it out there that they don't HAVE to trade him now. This is just more postering.2 points

Haber leaving might be the best move of the offseason so far.2 points

I request that we start a new thread where Sports Guy just keeps repeating that there is no chance any team meets the initial demands of Getz. Nobody knows what the initial demands are (or were), and nobody knows if they will be met. We most probably will never know. I'm really disappointed none of you Baltimore guys knew my reference to Governor Shaefer's derogatory comment about the Eastern Shore.2 points

The reason we happen to be on this board is that @Chicago White Sox came onto our board first and posted his thoughts about a Cease trade for a week or two. Nobody from Miami, Cleveland and Milwaukee has done that. I might add that we had quite a good conversation going with @Chicago White Sox over there. I am sorry that the conversation over here has taken some bad turns over the last week or so. I am bowing out of this discussion for now, though I might return if concrete reports of a pending trade appear from a credible source. I wish the Sox all the best in their efforts to get a good return for Cease.2 points
