I really don't want to jump on the guy, but it sure would have been nice for him to have been this focused the last 5 years. But hey, I'm here for it.

Harry: I've been broadcasting Idaho State athletes (Big Sky Conference) on radio and on ESPN+ since 1995. Have done football, men's and women's basketball (have three championship rings from WBB to show for it!), volleyball and softball. Have done over 460 games alone just for WBB. Started in the sports media in 1978, worked 14 years in TV sports in Lexington, Kentucky, Monroe, Louisiana and here in S.E. Idaho. Guess you can say I've been around awhile.

Why would you not want one of your sportscasters getting national recognition and hype, even if he has to miss a few Sox games? JR apparently doesn’t have a problem with Steve Stone taking tons of vacations and never traveling to the west coast, but with Benetti it was the end of the world.

Moving a corner infielder to RF… where have we seen that one before? Oh yeah, twice with Vaughn and Sheets. No thanks, Rick.

I just don’t think targeting a RH corner guy as the main piece of a Cease return is ideal.

He better never get happy OR mad. And enough with the jokes, we don’t need that. But hopefully he’s really funny. The most important thing is he needs to clearly support the team on the broadcast, so he can relate with the fans. But definitely don’t want him to be a homer. He needs to be bold and progressive, but always stay in his lane and never rock the boat.

If he has a 70 arm, but is talked about as a 1B, that must mean he either can't move, can't catch, or both.

I have no current opinions on him so stuff I’m hoping to see: An understanding of modern baseball. Do comment on them being patient. Do not credit them for ground balls the other way if they take you out of an inning. Do question bunting. Don’t tell me it’s all about TWTW. Show some advanced stats and explain them in appropriate context. Editorial independence: a willingness to say that a player or the organization has made mistakes when they happen. A general sense of passion, when things are going well or poorly. Those were, for the most part, things I liked about Benetti.

These things are all known. Again, if negotiations have gotten this far, do we really think that the City and/or JR (who literally made his million in real estate) don't know any of this? If this stuff was a deal breaker, they wouldn't be talking about it, still.

If he could play 3B long-term it would be fine. But if people don't think he can then yeah, that kind of sucks.

You probably lose some of your fandom when you get to finally work for your favorite team but realize that your boss and the owner are assholes.

Saw the video and liked what I heard, I got the feeling from Bennetti that though he was a Sox fan it seemed like he didn’t care if the Sox won or lost, Schriffen seems like he has more passion than Bennetti, we shall see

Eh....the concept of a RH 1B being the main compensation is still problematic to me. Anyway it's likely moot because Elias will not trade him for Cease and even if he did, it would likely be a 1 for 1 straight up trade, at most. I'd rather have Kjerstad, one of the IFers and one of pitchers rather than just Mayo and that's it anyway.

I don't follow. Jason and Stone carried water for the org at almost all times. If they did offer any critiques, it was aimed at individual failings, and certainly not the FO. To be fair, this is par for the course with contemporary announcing crews, but you're seeing things in Jason that weren't there. Jason is a nice story, overcoming adversity to become a top play by play guy nation wide, but as a Sox announcer? That I have to listen to 140+ times a year? He was not anything special and was unable or unwilling to say a bad word about his bosses.

Lip, I'm 90% certain JR would have ordered your resume publicly burned in a dumpster fire for having applied. Edit: I'm not saying you couldn't do it or knocking your broadcast abilities, but with just how petty JR is, you can't be flaming him for years and expect him to hire you.

I actually like that he's energetic and excited about things, but stylizing the words like this makes it seem like they're mocking him.

You must have missed my reply the last time you brought this up. Could I do the job? Absolutely. but as I said then I'm 68 and have ties to Southeast Idaho. Our house is paid off and I'm going to be inducted next month, into the Idaho State Sports Hall of Fame via the Lifetime Achievement Award. I'm not going anywhere. I would have loved to have worked for the Sox but it wasn't in the cards, maybe 20 years ago I would have at least tried for it but not now.

After the dust settled on this, sadly I think I am going to carry water. I want a PBP guy to be in booth more then Benetti was. Jason's back story was awesome and he was good at his job but at the same time he seemed to only be there more and more on a part time basis. I think the Sox wanted more and Jason wanted less. I like this guy. Hope he is here a long time. I thought Benetti would as well but I think he has Joe Buck aspirations and the Sox were done being a part of it. I still think the Sox are in a bad place as an organization and Brooks Boyer is a fool but I can squint and see their point. the Sox suck so really, why bust Jason's balls.

What's the point of a 70 arm if you are at 1B? I'm glad he has alot of power but he's still RH which is a problem. Kjerstad and Westburg and one of the pitchers. That's about 50m-55m in SV and that's around where Cease should be taking into account the SP premium.

I think you are reaching. Like many companies, the Sox just hire a lot of terrible people that keep their jobs for far too long. Remember this image that was posted to the official White Sox Twitter? Not to mention the Senior Vice President, Chief Revenue and Marketing Officer whom apparently didn’t like how Jason Benetti ate ballpark food on air, which was leaked by the media. When you see this trend of frequent occurrences of incompetence and stupidity, is it even a surprise anymore? @Balta1701 also mentioned another good [embarrassingly bad] example above as well. However, the theory that there is a super evil genius and master troll working in the Sox marketing / PR staff that is clowning every stupid decision the Sox make is pretty awesome to think about.

Seriously? Is baseball, and pro sports altogether, different than it was 40 years ago? Has the value of the ballclub changed? Has the age of the owner changed? Does the owner think that he'll still be owning the team in 40 years? Has the business model evolved in any way? Has the South Loop changed as a whole?

Funny that the north side of Roosevelt and right across Clark were all part of the same rail yards, yet somehow they were viable for condos, a shopping plaza, and a pricy private school.

In 1985 the corner of Clark and Roosevelt was nothing more than weeds and railroad tracks that had been abandoned by the Rock Island five years before. The city needed to build the pipes, sewer lines, power lines, roads, bridges, and subway stops that would serve the new stadium. Reinsdorf wanted to keep the money from parking and concessions. He also didn’t want to pay rent on the new facility. City Hall expected the Sox to foot some of the bill. That was a non-starter as far as the Sox were concerned. Does anyone really think things have changed?

My words have been parsed by an antagonist. There are reasons I believe that Area 78 will not be pursued for a new baseball stadium - numerous failed projects there, the time and costs that would be involved to address major impediments to construction, special infrastructure requirements like a sea wall, storm and sanitary sewer connections, and possible soil bearing where the former river bed was located. The most recent plan approved by the City excluded the old river bed path referring to it as "Crescent park". As far as GRF, yes it is 35 years old, but there is nothing structurally wrong with it and there are precedents for making major changes to it. Personally, I would not mind seeing a new stadium on the site of the original Comiskey or at another site within Chicago, but not the 78. That's a large hole in the ground that seems like an ideal spot for Amazon or an Intermodal. The owners/developers have been pushing that site for years, but I for one, am not buying in. But anyway, go ahead and buy in if you want to. I don't care.

Ortiz being in while being on the 2003 list by his own admission while holding out other steroid guys is insanity. There's more evidence against him than say Roger Clemens or the same as Sosa.
