  1. I'm now fully on board with the Sox moving to this site, solely to see you cry about it when it happens.

  5. I don’t think there is really much of a chance of JR moving the White Sox out of town. The American League wouldn’t want to abandon Chicago. There would be a honeymoon wherever he went, but it would be short lived, and when the see mediocrity at best, the new place will show you why MLB wasn’t there sooner. And they really don’t have the argument that teams that have left had. They really don’t have a stadium issue. They want an upgrade, and it looks fantastic, but they don’t want to pay for it.

  8. There's a scene in Ghostbusters where the giant Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man is coming to kill them, and they all expect to die, no chances left. Egon says that maybe they should cross the streams. Murry/ Venkman says that he told them they all would die if they crossed the streams. Egon replies, "There's definitely a very small chance we could survive". Bill Murry/ Venkman thinks about it, and realizes, as much as it sucks, "definitely a very small chance" is way better than no chance at all to survive; so he does the line, "I love this plan . . Let's do it". He knows that a terrible plan is way better than no plan at all. That's where I'm at with this White Sox team. I'm a White Sox Fan, and spring training is here. I know that everything looks bad for this year, and the team this year could really suck. But again, I'm a White fan, and damn it, I'm gonna stay a White Sox fan, and there's "definitely a very small chance" they could succeed and maybe contend for the division. And since the other choice is ignoring the White Sox and baseball after a long winter (for me, baseball death). I’m jumping on that “definitely very small chance” and so I love this team and I’m getting excited about this Sox team. So here goes, why I’m excited about this team (some of these I’m more confident about than others): A lot of my hope rests on the benefits of a motivated and quality clubhouse. I think that could really make a difference, or I’m hoping it will. I’m very curious and excited about this new pitching staff, especially with the improved defense. I expect Cease to be outstanding until he’s dealt at the deadline. I expect a solid bounce back from a couple of either Fedde, Soroka, and Flexen. I think maybe one or two of them can be this year’s Mike Clevenger without being . . .well . . . Mike Clevenger. The bullpen: I get that everyone is complaining about the no-name bullpen; but really, even with all the “big names” last year, it was completely terrible, completely. I honestly believe that this year’s bullpen can’t be worse than last year’s bullpen. It can’t be. I expect a big jump in production from Vaughn and Benitendi. I really do; I think that will come from the improved clubhouse and Benitendi’s improved hand. I think, this being the last year of his contract, I expect a motivated Moncada, motivated to play 145 games or so, and actually give some real production at the plate. I’m hanging onto that last month of production he had at the end of last year as evidence of what he can do all year in ‘24. Now to Eloy, hmmm. . . back to the clubhouse thing here. Last year as Eloy sat at his locker, he would look down the row of teammates and see this: fat Lance Lynn who was too lazy to get in shape and lose weight to help his team; the unmotivated Moncada; Grandal, what a piece of yuck; and finally, TA, the biggest cancer on a team loaded with cancers. That won’t be the case this year (I hope). With guys around him putting the team first, I’m hoping that he’ll step up this year and be productive. The defense will be significantly better, and that will help pitching. I know everyone, including me, wonders where the runs are going to come from, but again, it can’t be worse than last year. I just looked it up; the White Sox were 2nd to last (29 out of 30) in run production last year. The Sox offense has to be able to do better (or less bad) than that. And even if it’s not improved, with the better pitching and defense; they’re still going to win more games. So, I say it again: There’s definitely a very small chance that he White Sox could be successful this year, and I’m gonna get behind that chance because it is way better than no chance at all and being one of the countless number of doomsayers. And so, I love the team this year. I’m excited to be a fan of it!!

  16. I am wondering what people like about the nondescript office park stadium proposed by Related. This thing is really smashed in between tall buildings without much vehicular or pedestrian ingress/egress or green areas shown on the site plan. And where are the bars? In various high rise buildings? There is a triple deck facing East that may be as high or higher than the 500 level at GRF. Elevators to get up to that level? A huge flat screen ( atop a second deck with lights on top?!) that obscures the view of downtown from many vantages. High/mid rises springing up around the park with cranes and new construction for a few years? I assume residents and commercial tenants and their customers will have parking of some sort or have some restrictions 80/365 days a year? Nothing faces the sanitary canal (aka bubbly creek) or the railroad bone yard beyond. The only road out that has been built looks like it is two lanes and may interfere with the latest plan. A 2 dimensional site plan (I believe this is of a former 78 plan) but in any case, surrounding could end up being any height. Note the elevation difference between the green area and where the man is standing. I wondered if that was what was looking at when I recently drove past there. It looked like a former dump/fill site (oh wait, it was). I know some people do not like the South side or Bridgeport and yearn for something all shiny and new, but this proposal is complete bulshit. It has been heavily promoted by a wealthy developer who sensed an opportunity to take advantage by leveraging the situation. Unfortunately JR is the wrong man to try to leverage on a real estate development deal. He has seen more attempts at grift with real estate proposals than any of us will ever know. Put the kibosh on this foolhardy plan and focus on the baseball side of the organization. Spring Training is here and I look forward to Opening Day without any more of this noise in the media. It has really become a distraction.

  17. The number is out there. There are articles being written saying "not one damn penny". I'm sure sports radio in Chicago has had this today. I don't care how broken democracy is, if there's a strong, negative response from the constituents, money does not get spent on a project like this. Being upfront and open will help get people on board. If they came up with a number through a reasonable means, tell us what that number is and why giving it to them is a good deal for the city. If they didn't come up with that number by reasonable means, and they can't justify it, then those who say "Nashville is that way" are correct.

  18. A $500 million ask would mean that the White Sox would be putting up probably the other $600-$700 million cost of the park. This would be more reasonable and plausible than the city paying a full $1 billion for the park and the White Sox chipping in like $100-$200 million or whatever. This is also why the White Sox should be out in front of this, because if we're not understanding things correctly, it benefits them to make everyone understand the numbers!

Dr. Eddie Hamilton, a pediatrician who in 2013 pleaded guilty to a charge of healthcare fraud for inappropriate billing practices. Hamilton contested the charge, chalking it up to a misunderstanding and overzealous prosecution. Still, it’s not a good look for a group looking to build credibility and support for their cause. As residents socialized after the meeting, a refrain of, “Have you Googled this guy? Can you believe this?” echoed through the room. One resident joked that Project Smoke was an appropriate name for the plan, given the amount of smoke Hamilton was blowing up residents’ rear ends. Hamilton isn’t the only project leader to raise eyebrows. The chair of Music City Baseball is Alberto Gonzales, dean of the Belmont University School of Law. Gonzales formerly served as White House counsel to former President George W. Bush, before graduating to Attorney General. In his time as counsel to the president, Gonzales and his office produced a series of “torture memos,” arguing for the legality of so-called “enhanced interrogation techniques” for detainees thought to be enemy combatants. And this is the team we want leading the charge to turn North Nashville into the East Bank?”

  30. This will be a state of IL play not Chicago. Last time, when they had a crumbling stadium and needed about a tenth of the funds they are now asking, and actually had an alternative to leave the state, the governor had to stop the clock and call in favors to get it done. This time? You really think people in central and southern IL are going to be onboard with this?

  33. If anything...anger at both the Bulls AND Sox combined is at an all-time high. And fans know he's certainly not dumb enough to threaten to take both teams at once to get what he wants for the Sox. Bulls are way too profitable where they are...and iconic because of Jordan.

  34. Except the Cubs and White Sox split of the city was closer to 50/50 back then. Now it must be something like 70/30....with a massive amount of apathy from that 30% after driving the rebuild into the ground. Lots of people probably speculating it would be better for the Cubs to mature into a superteam rather than splitting the city for corporate sponsorships, suites, season tickets, etc. Realistically the Cubs and Red Sox are pretty comparable and Boston is almost unable to compete in the AL East now...although at least 50% of that's on ownership. And Boston brought Epstein back to serve as a buffer to cushion the attacks from the fanbase. The White Sox don't have anything resembling an executive who built two organizations into WS winners from the bottom up and then established a period of sustained success.

  35. This is Chicago we are talking about. When was the last time anyone asked permission for a public spending project of any kind? Hell this is the same place where the Mayor decided he didn't want an airport on Lake Michigan and fucking bulldozed it to make his point. Everything in this city of consequence is done behind closed doors and then they get rewarded with 80% of the vote. Even the super unpopular Olympics bid was done locally by the local pols and business community with about zero care of the taxpayer. Again Jerry Reinsdorf is literally the only person in Chicago to get a brand new stadium built in somewhere around the last 100 years, and he has done it twice.

  36. It’s very easy to navigate right now. The Sox have tons of guys they could cut who would likely clear waivers and in the event that they don’t, it’s not some devastating loss. They should absolutely be using this time to upgrade the 40-man when possible.

  37. I don’t agree. It’s not that easy to navigate right now. As far as clubs having the same valuations, yes. The QO is brutal though. Guys like Bellinger and Snell should’ve considered taking the QO if they wanted 7-10 year deals. Now that they have the QO attached, it makes a 1-2 year deal far less likely. I mean come on. Nobody thought those guys would be unsigned as camp opened.
