We ran the ball 20 times for 70 yards and 40 of those were from Caleb's improvising after he ran away from pressure. You can't setup play action without a run game. So getting any easy chunk plays in the pass game is nearly impossible. Add on to the fact that Caleb isn't making teams pay on deep throws when they play blitz looks and it's just open season on him. Bad line + blitzes + no ability to hurt teams downfield = really shitty offense. Caleb is not without criticism because he absolutely should be better. He's looked fine reading defenses for the most part. I was actually surprised at how often he changed things at the line. That's not something a ton of rookie QBs do or even get to do. But it really feels like he has no chemistry with his receivers. Moore and Odunze were obviously not on the same page as Caleb on a lot of those throws in the 2nd half. Moore looked like he wanted Justin Fields back. But the worst thing of all is the accuracy on some of these deep throws. He missed an open DeAndre Carter again. He underthrew Kmet and Moore on his picks. I don't think deep ball accuracy was ever an issue for him in college and you'd think that arm strength and accuracy usually translates from college to the NFL. I hope it's some sort of mechanical issue because that's at least fixable. It's not like he doesn't have a strong arm, he's shown that on quite a few plays so far. But the main problem with the offense is the offensive line. They didn't play well last year, but they were not this bad. They can't pick up stunts or any kind of pressure. What's worse is they can't run block either and that was a strength of the line last year. Until they go back to being a somewhat serviceable line, this team is gonna struggle on offense and Caleb is gonna either get hurt or start seeing ghosts.3 points

Considering the Texans dominated possession, only being down 6 points is actually pretty good for the Bears.3 points

He should. Like it or not, they really need to see what he has. That’s exactly what a non competitive team should be doing.3 points

I have no vision of how the Sox are going to be able to amass enough talent all at the same time to be able to compete anytime in the next 4-5 years. The offensive talent is downright offensive. Pitching maybe, but if they can't trade them for hitters, can't draft hitters, can't sign hitters, and can't develop hitters, what are we doing? Even if by some miracle, Chris Getz really is the boy genius of hiring and actually fixes the drafting and development problems, how many more years before those things actually pay off if those hires are still to be made? A new international director isn't going to have a single 16 year old of their own signed until at least 2026, probably longer as most your talent is already accounted for going out a couple of seasons. Pro scouts don't exist for potential Robert and Crochet trades. We are already depending on non-scouts for advice and that is going swimmingly well. We can only pick higher than 10th once in the next three years if we have huge loss seasons as expected. Our top hitting prospects were pretty awful this year as a whole, and Getz refuses to play the one ok success story. Free agency? Hahahahaha! We well might be entering not just a rebuild, but a cycle of failed rebuilds.3 points

The Texans figured out we couldn't pick up overloads whatsoever. I don't think Caleb held onto the ball that long in this game. In fact, I think he actually improved on that from last game and I think the TTT metrics will show that. The 36 pressures were mostly a product of a terrible performance from the offensive line.1 point

Awful line, nonexistent run game, no offensive rhythm. Williams hasn’t looked great. Fields is 2-0 for the Steelers.1 point

Nothing on offense works cause we can't run or pass block. It doesn't help that Caleb can't throw the ball down field. His accuracy on these floating deep balls is so disappointing.1 point

I can at least accept that challenge because of the result. The first half challenge was brutal though.1 point

To answer all of your questions. To put it bluntly and starkly, there is NO HOPE (or at best very, very little...maybe they get lucky like in 2005) that this incompetent, dysfunctional and inept organization can be good or even mediocre for the next several years as long as JR owns the club. Period...full stop...end of story. The only "hope" I have is to outlive JR and take my chances with new ownership.1 point

Most of the guys are playing themselves off the team, the only position guy that will be here next year is probably Benintendi because of his contract, maybe Lee but he has really regressed as the year progressed. Fletcher might be around as 4th outfielder. Robert will probably be traded as well as Vaughn, the rest are DFA candidates.1 point

Did Stone say at first Burke ain't strikeout anybody or walk anybody? So what is 103 in 75 innings?1 point

And his “good” games were still a bunch of singles. I thought the Orioles hitting gurus were going to unlock his big power? He has exactly 1 home run in 92 at bats with the Orioles.1 point

He did have 3 hits. Needed to come in a step and short hop that ball. He got caught in between .A top 3rd baseman makes that play but you have to recognize it practically off the bat before the ball is on you. Hot corner read and react. Reps. On the replay it didn't look like he had his eyes on the ball either .Head was up.like he was trying to look at the runner on third going home.Pretty sure the infield wasnt in so the play is to turn 2 by throwing to 2nd not home. Lots of mistakes from either taking eyes of the ball, not taking a step in instantly and letting the ball play him or not thinking ahead and knowing his positioning dictates an attempt to turn a DP by going to 2nd if fielded cleanly. It's good he can play all inield positions but he needs a lot of reps . His bat may be coming around. Its not like the Sox have much better choices even if they add Ramos ,Baldwin and Montgomery to the infield mix next year. He did go 1st to 3rd a few times also if I want to evaluate his game today fairly. He's thekind of guy you keep or trade like you can trade any of the mid twenty's OFs like Fletcher,Deloach, Colas. Fletcher is a no power corner, Deloach similar, Colas with the most upside but he's like the Sox poster boy for what's wrong with the Sox Intl. Spending scouting and development. You wonder if anyone is scouting some of these guys work ethic, coachability, and drive along with the tools.1 point

Yeah, I too have pointed out that Eloy only had like 5 good games there to start and has been mostly bad since.1 point
-
I’m guessing not. Post All-Star break, Crochet has a 6.46 ERA. He’d be even worse if he was extended beyond 2 to 4 inning starts. Meanwhile, the Orioles spent way less to acquire Elfin and he’s been much better than Crochet in the second half. I doubt the Orioles want a mulligan on that trade. Cowser also had a terrible start in the majors for the Orioles last year and he is now an AL rookie of the year contender. As far as Eloy goes, the Orioles acquired him as a flier. It’s not like they gave up anything of substance for him to the Sox. The only team that “lost” by not selling Crochet high was the Sox.1 point

This is an old article. DeJong has a 761 OPS with the Royals, which is better than his 705 OPS with the Sox, but not by much. If he was the second best trade deadline move in mlb then there were very few impact players traded at the deadline this year.1 point

Getz was trading for the future. Even what turns out to be the absolute greatest trade of all time would look bad in the short term.1 point

I picked them to go 39-123 a few months back, but yeah 37-38 wins is about their absolute limit nobody talking about how they're way worse with Grady Sizemore and the new coaches than they were with Grifol either1 point

Wait till the Winter when there are more Vargas type players acquired by Getz.1 point

Sox need to go 3-9 the next 12 to clinch the worst percentage since the AL formed in 1901. And then give no fucks on the last day.1 point

I mean they barely have any player with an OPS over .700. The entire roster is comically bad. I know some players don’t respond terribly well to coaching but, as an example, Luis Robert’s approach at the plate is coaching malfeasance. The entire league knows to throw him sliders down and away outside of the zone and he just keeps swinging at them.1 point
