The problem is, if you commit to him being full-time DH, you’re relegating Quero to the bench. And I’d rather rotate the catchers there to get them the most at bats in a lost season.3 points

Brother this is not the season to be musing about draft position in December 😂3 points

I am just so so tired of the Caleb Williams lecture remix we get every game. Brady thankfully stopped and he’s been great, as is Olsen. But we still get this excited moment where they get to lecture Caleb on making the smart play. Sure, but they act like Caleb has 20 interceptions and 60 sacks again. He’s made incredible progress and lead them to a title in a brutal division with two great defenses. so tiring.3 points

For real. Run him out there for six weeks and see what happens. If he is Carlton Fisk out there, reevaluate before opening day.3 points

On the same point, the '77 WSox Hitmen were so much fun to watch and in this day and age, would have drawn even more fans. The atmosphere in the stands back then was crazy.2 points

This is what we know. Nightengale reported on active discussions with Reds and Mets and said Sox are targeting pitching in return. Wittenmyer reported Sox could eat as much as $10 million and he specifically mentioned Brandon Williamson, Chase Petty and Julian Aguiar. The comp pick hasn't been reported anywhere. I'd take any combination of those arms plus the comp pick for Robert right now pretty easily.2 points

Im not sure what's so embarassing or funny about that quote. As owner, JR should be brought up to speed from his marketing department and GM about the on field and marketing implications involved with signing Murakami. This is something the Sox have never done before. This isnt Ohtani or LA so can anyone truly know how much this signing may mean as to increased revenue from various sources yet ? If it was expected to make that much of a difference why wouldn't someone else outbid the Sox ? Boyer is going to have to earn his money if there are Japanese sponsorships and advertising and season ticket revenue out there from the Murakami signing. This is just what corporations do before an unexpected major transaction since it all happened so quickly.2 points

Reds still keeping conversations open with Sox on Robert despite recent outfield additions per Whittenmeyer.2 points

I am about 98% sure that they gave Caleb a directive this year that if he isn't 100% sure on a throw, throw it away, because anytime it is a 50/50 throw, it goes into the sideline.2 points

While I am still disappointed that the last play was blown up, it’s hard to deny that this offense is for real. Yesterday Collinsworth spent the entire game acting like the 49ers were the only good team on the field, when it was 28-28 he was talking about how great Purdy was and how he was the difference in the game. There was no difference in the game, it was tied! Both teams had pretty bad defenses on the field and in the end the Bears had like one more empty possession that cost them. I hope Burden is good, he was interviewed after the game and said he was just tired. Dude is special with the ball in his hands2 points

You can never have enough DH/1B types. As a Sox fan, I expect you to know these things.2 points

I was surprised that everyone passed on him when waived last season. And since then, he basically did what he’s always done in the minors.1 point

The Imai market is moving very slow . Imai made a translated tweet yesterday that supposedly said that he's received 0 formal offers yet . He may not get $130M which seems to be your minimum expected salary. The length of the deal will surely be the determining factor. The starting pitcher market is slow developing and the general feeling among owners is that Cease got too much and some agents may be waiting to see what Imai gets before they finalize any deals for their clients. Owners may be trying to "correct" the SP market prices by keeping Imai years and AAV in the 4/5 years $22-25M range as an unproven arm. Doubt there's much chance the Sox can sneak into the Imai negotiations unless Ishbia truly is involved and I don't trust the 1 rumor that he was called by Getz after the Murakami signing. https://fansided.com/mlb/mlb-rumors-tatsuya-imai-shocker-tigers-bregman-bummer-red-sox-options1 point

The article just mentions Padres, Pirates and Angels and its taking it from this tweet. He has no meetings set-up per that link yet. The other teams are mentioned seemingly as speculation from an old MLB Trade Rumors article on if they miss out on Bregman (?). https://x.com/i/status/20052986974256335891 point

100 percent. The oline improvements are significant and notable. The coaching is noticeable too - but Burden, Loveland, Monagai and Trapilo are also nothing to sneeze at. All of them have been meaningful contributors - two of which (Burden and Loveland) have been top 5 at their respective positions when on the field after adjusting for first few games. Defensively they have had injuries to some key players. JJ is still getting up to speed from a serious injury and Kyler is a very good nickel when healthy - and yes - they missed Edward’s and Edmunds and had some injuries on the line - but this defense is just not very good. It’s real knock I have for Poles is the fact he has made heavy investments in dline - very few have panned out. Hopefully Shamar Turner ends up being a piece and Booker at worse looks like a rotational end. Dexter has flashed at times, but clearly not good enough to be a difference maker.1 point

It's probably the most tantalizing off-season trade rumor, so everybody keeps publishing teaser articles about teams kicking the tires on him. I'm settling on "Getz really saw Robert as the strongest ceiling of the CF options out there, so kept him for $20M. If somebody wants to suffocate him with prospects, he's all for it, but otherwise, he's got other targets."1 point

I am surprised we have gotten the Merkin piece about how bad the Reds offer actually is to counter the Cincy narrative TBH.1 point

Let's be honest, the guys they got are filler for a good team1 point

Which means, "If Getz gets himself into meth rehab and comes down off his lofty asking price, the Reds could take Robert and $15M off his hands in exchange for an A-ball arm who's already passed his real estate licensing exam."1 point

That last year of Carlos Lee was something to respect and appreciate from a badness perspective. He only went on to get worse when he left too. The crown probably has to go to Albert though. While defensive metrics are a little volatile, a consolidated ranking based on metrics going back to Belle's debut in 1989, if you exclude DH's and players years as a DH, Albert ranks 1029 out of 1039 defensive players who received more than 2000 innings in the field.1 point

Probably should. LF may be his eventual long-term home with how packed the infield situation is.1 point

The one play I remember vividly about Benintendi happened when he was playing LF for KC against us. We had a man on second, base hit to left, runner going, obvious play at the plate, and he made what I then thought was the worst throw I have ever seen by a left fielder. Shortly after that KC sent him to Yanks, and then Sox signed him to a 5-year deal.1 point

This was one of the first games all year where he just got abused on crossers by Pearsall. He had been playing like the best corner on the team before this game. It can't help that he was sick and injured leading up to the game.1 point

Anyone but Tauchman - he can't play in the field either. Watching him in the field or just run in general in September was like watching one of those commercials of dogs locked in cages with no food.1 point

This offense played awesome - defense is very weak but this team is for real. Luther and Loveland are studs and they will be even better when Rome comes back. Caleb played great today - still left a few plays out there. Sucks to lose but this was a great game.1 point

Why are we releasing him? He put up positive production this last season, and he's relatively cheap.1 point

It looks bad for Kansas taxpayers but still, the Kansas politicians feel overall it will benefit the State of Kansas, I find it difficult to believe that Kansas is going to lose money on the deal.1 point

At the end of the day he is owed 2/30. Release him like a real big boy organization and move on.1 point

The more I read and respond to this, the more it cements in my mind that Luis Robert is a 2 bWAR/162 player who will only play around 100 games, so you'll get about 1 bWAR by end of June, mostly predicated on his speed and defense. He won't stay healthy. He won't hit the way we hope for. He's going to hit for about 15% below league average. There's no magic hitting streak that's going to pry loose somebody's #101 prospect that can explode in our system. 2023 is the curse that makes up believe there's a monster pent up in there. There isn't. Look at his batting average drop precipitously over his career, year by year.1 point

Good job. We're all going to have to step on each other's jokes a lot for the next month while Caulfield is on his self-imposed hiatus. Maybe @Bob Sacamano will want to help out by referencing a list of 80's era Cub players who have absolutely nothing to do with the convo. Do you even know who's going to be the 2033 Game 3 World Series starter for the Sox? Is he even in the system? Ohtani also made an impact on the mound for LA, making his return to pitching in June after an almost two-year layoff, following two procedures, including one to repair the right ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow and his left shoulder last offseason. In 14 starts, he went 1-1 with a 2.87 ERA and had 62 strikeouts. The second-straight MVP award comes after posting a historic season last year in which he became the first player in MLB history to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in a single campaign. cnn.com1 point

Just my opinion but I can easily see why politicians have told the Bears to basically screw themselves. The outstanding debt that is still owed on the first renovation of Soldier Field is a big issue and they have said so, along with having to try to subsidize a very wealthy McCaskey family isn't sitting well with voters given the economic situation around the nation amidst all the political chaos. Remember politicians are more about getting reelected than helping the Bears. Personally like with the Giants and Jets, to me it's simply not that big of a deal if they play outside of Chicago, they are still the Chicago Bears. It's just a name we're talking about after all.1 point
