  1. If only we still had Reese McGuire. BluBaughs would be annihilated.
  2. I actually think a "cookie cutter" PBP guy would be an upgrade over a non-baseball guy like Schriff at least
  3. Hagen is a dog. Ride and die with your guys. He goes 2 scoreless and we win. Book it.
  4. caulfield12 — The International Man of SoxTalkCaulfield is another massive-volume, deeply knowledgeable, weirdly wide-ranging poster. His posts frequently go beyond the Sox into international baseball, ownership, economics, politics, overseas life, etc. He is also prolific enough that Greg recently called him “in the running for board MVP.” He's also part of the forum's meta-lore. There's an old thread specifically discussing which SoxTalk posters could theoretically have their own talk shows, and caulfield himself starts casting various posters in different roles. His particular superpower is: Nobody asked for a 700-word explanation of the implications of something. Caulfield has already written it. And there will probably be a reference to something happening in Europe. SoxTalk role: The guy who somehow knows the political situation in Finland, the ownership structure of the Twins, and what happened to a 2004 White Sox prospect.
  5. Doyle has a .235 xwOBA since joining the Sox, yet here we are talking about how the White Sox have transformed Doyle and he's now a win of the trade deadline. He has that despite the majority of his at bats coming against lefties with the Sox, who he's historically hit much better than righties, but with the Sox he has a .278 xwOBA against lefties which is absolutely terrible. Yes, let's celebrate Getz for acquiring a DFA candidate with his 0 walks and 33% K-Rate in nearly 100 AB's with the Sox. There wasn't a single good move at the deadline and it's why we're now playing a wildcard series.
  6. I vote anyone that voted "No, the Sox miss the playoffs" isn't allowed to make a playoff game thread.
  7. I say put mics in front of Chuck and Ozzie during the broadcasts and let whatever happens happen.
  8. I got used to Schriff. He suffered through 2024 and 25 with us. He messes up a lot for sure, but his enthusiasm makes him a homer and I like that in our local Sox announcer. I never thought I would approve of him getting a new contract, but I could live it.
  9. I can’t believe there are people that think McKnight is good. I get not liking Schriffen, but McKnight has just as many warts.
  10. We're gonna win this series. Astros aren't ready for a hot offense. Our pitching will do enough.
  11. Whoever started it yesterday. Edit: oh f***. It's @ron883
  12. I think people overrate how much they "love" Richards. He's pretty much the mop up or innings eating guy. We see him a lot because his role is to take innings when the game isn't really hanging in the balance. There were a few times he was forced into a high leverage spot, but for the most part was just a mop up guy.
  13. Dodgers pbp guy Stephen Nelson is a huge Sox fan and has been on the Sox in the basement podcast a few times. Go get him. He gets pretty excited on home run calls and has more baseball knowledge than Schriff.
  14. The one thing I didn't like about Benetti was the incessant "dad jokes". If he could just dial that back a bit, he's otherwise a great PBP guy.....and a home-grown guy too. That's irrelevant now because he ain't coming back. Schriffen simply should never have gotten the job in the first place. Maybe Jerry wanted a him because he knew he'd be a great promoter of the franchise and of the front office as this team sunk to new depths on the field. Hired for his ability to shill, not for his ability to do PBP of MLB games. To each their own, but "he's gotten better" and "he's not that bad" doesn't mean he's become qualified to be the PBP guy for a team in the 3rd largest market. "He's Grown on Me" calling games at There's Nothing Wrong with It Field. This franchise could and should do better.
  15. Found Schriff to be miscast as a baseball broadcaster and really got annoyed as to how he repeatedly moaned about how cold he was during his broadcast of home games in April and May which made him sound like a softy and probably caused some who were considering going to a game to not go due to his warnings of how they’d be cold. That’s not how real baseball fans or in particular south siders roll. As Bill Veeck always said “there is never a bad day at the ballpark”.
  16. McKnight is like listening to an over eager to please yellow Lab puppy... not a big market big league announcer
  17. 3 points
Trade Caleb for the The Haul™, trade Bagent for a second rounder, build around Case Keenum.
  18. Welcome back Ray Ray lol
  19. I mean Caulfield is the original AI. Oh you have some interest in this topic? Here are 47 related stories to it!
  20. None of our pitching matchups have been announced yet. It was a prediction posted as fact and now everyone's runnin with it lol.
  21. Why can't we be one of the three worst teams ever to win a World Series? Let's small sample our way to shocking the world, starting with Ron's guy Sandlin getting lefties out for the first time all year... then a good old fashion Sean Burke shove fest. Just stopping in to say Go Sox! Nothing I'd enjoy more than listening to hundreds of people and talking heads tell us how we didn't deserve to win it all this year!
  22. Say what you want about nerdy/corny Benetti but he was: a true Sox fan, it wasn't forced appreciative of franchise history/legends more knowledgeable about baseball in general... not too close to certain members of the team, so ultimately more objective not as much a pawn/loyal cheerleader for the front office "comfortable in his own skin" maybe overly so to a point, as he enjoyed more acclaim and added national btoadcasts as well as college fb and bb
  23. Sox. Astros. Tuesday. 4 PM. On the COCK!
  24. Each of the last 2 seasons, Brooks Boyer made it a point to say the Schriff would return. This year crickets. He gone.Get out! Yeah buddy.
  25. "Why you should root for them: This year's White Sox are easily the most root-worthy team in the playoffs." The White Sox are just the type of young exciting team that I would root for if the Sox were not involved.
  26. I love them on the radio though.....nothing like listening to a game on the radio. I'm so pumped to hear them do playoff baseball....that is what Len came here to do and DJ works great with him.
  27. Steve has a multi-year deal with the Sox: https://www.mlb.com/news/steve-stone-multiyear-agreement-white-sox-tv-analyst. If Stone had decided to retire, I doubt it would have been a quick announcement at the end of a broadcast. He's been part of Chicago baseball - on the field and in the booth - for 50 years. I imagine he would at least get a retirement ceremony before a game and maybe a farewell seasonlong celebration like Howie Rose and Rick Rizzs in New York and Seattle.
  28. @Y2Jimmy0 said in a previous post about this discussion that the Schriffdawg is likely OUT after this season. Shocking that any team would let a talent like this go… 🤣🤣🤣
  29. The Sox can beat the Astros. It comes down to pitching. The Sox can't have their starter giving up 3-4 runs in the first inning or two, which we've seen too many times lately.
  30. Enjoy whatever recycled PBP guy the sox bring in. Turn on a MLB game and for the most part you get the same sounding home team PBP guy. It's all cookie cutter and we can't handle when someone doesn't fit that mold. I loved Hawk as a PBP guy because he was unique and different, even Harry was different. Most of the PBP guys are white dudes (not trying to turn this into a race issue) who are very similar in how they sound and go about announcing baseball. We need more uniqueness if the younger generation is going to enjoy watching a game like many of us in our 40's, 50's, 60's........do.
  31. One thing MLB can do is go back to a 154 game series freeing up more time for the playoffs. So many useless games are being played in late September anyway.
  32. I agree with you. In addition, the White Sox won games than Houston. Why did Houston get the 3 game home field advantage?
  33. I’d like to know what genius came up with a 3 game playoff series with one team not getting a home game. A 5 game first round would be more fair with a 2-2-1 rotation.
  34. He put up top half SS numbers in MLB this season with all of his flaws. I know everyone is fixated on his Ks, but again, he has two more minimum wage seasons. You'd be an idiot to punt on that.
  35. Anybody want to project the playoff roster? I don't believe Pham is eligible everybody else no in IL is, I believe. 13 pitcher max. OF: Doyle, Peters, Beni, Grichuk, Montgomery IF: Acuna, Vargas, Meidroth, Mune, Colson, Ant C: Teel, Rogers P: Taylor, Hagen, Burke, Kay, Fedde, Hicks, Sandlin, Newcomb, Martin, Hudson, Noah, Brazoban, Richards
  36. I think it's more likely Schriff is done. Steve doesn't do many road games already and Plesac is who I would like when Steve hangs it up for good.
  37. So what you're telling me is that we'll end the season 4-5 against them.
