  2. How Boston continues to hold on to his job is beyond me. Maybe he is JR's latest clubhouse "spy?"

  3. Dear JR, Kindly and politely, Go f*** Yourself. Spare us the empty drivel. You alone sir are the reason a franchise icon donned another uniform today. This icon gave so much of his playing career to your sorry organization, and left because he wanted a chance to win. Something you and your ways have made impossible to do under your watch. Your hollow words are just another in a long line of hearty “f*** you’s” to your die hard, loyal, long suffering fans. Please do us all a favor and cash out, sell controlling interest in our beloved White Sox, and ride off into the sunset of baseball obscurity. Give us the gift of hope that we might someday finally reach the promised land again without your greedy tendrils impeding the pursuit of excellence. Please sir, go away, leave us be, and let us never hear you utter a single word about the Chicago White Sox again. Sincerely, An embittered White Sox fan

  4. Imagine being the White Sox and turning away players like Jose Abreu and Carlos Rodon, only for 100 win teams (and reigning champs) to sign and meet with them. Weak s%*#.

  10. Daryl led the outfield and base running instruction which should be reason enough to dismiss him as we didn't fare to well in either.

  11. Personally, I don't want to hear anything he has to say. Sell the team.

  12. do we all realize the best chance at getting above average LH power on this team next year is Yaz even with coming off a league awful year?

  13. Best non-prospect acquisition the Sox made since the WS. Fun to root for since day one. One of the increasingly rare players that made me feel proud as a fan beyond what he produced, and one the extremely rare players who I wanted the Sox to find a way to keep even if it wasn’t the smartest way to win on paper. Hard to get that kind of reaction out of a numbers geek like me. Thanks for everything, Jose. Hope to see a statue in the park one day.

  14. We might think it's a price worth paying but the math is still gonna have to work out when the FO has to account for every penny and even a slight overpayment is likely to result in robbing Peter to pay Paul again.... RH: So Jerry we got Mike Clevinger, a former Cy Young winner for only 12 million and.. JR: Yeah, but how are you gonna pay for that. I said payroll is only 180 million. It isn't even December and you're already over it. RH: Don't worry, Giolito is on his way out and that's a 10 million savings. As you know he just got also elected to the MLBPA executive committee so we're killing two birds with one stone there. JR: Yes I agree that's great except for one problem. RH: Whats that? JR: What about the other 2 million?
    4 points
  15. Yeah, I mean. It hasn’t been a serious attempt at contention. You don’t cut payroll 15% three years into your “window” with your core still in place, if you actually give a s%*#.

  18. So when a runner gets on first base instead of giving them some base running instruction, we place our outfield coach as the 1st base coach. Well at least Daryl will be there to collect their pads. This is Sox logic at it's finest.

  23. Summarizing a few things from a few separate threads. The median team put up 1.4 fWAR from their catcher's spot last year. Cleveland put up -0.2, Houston put up -0.6. This is not a position where dominance is required to put yourself in playoff contention. Despite Yaz being one of the worst players in baseball, the White Sox put up 1.7 fWAR from that position. This was largely based on a 2 WAR season from Zavala, with an assist from a 1 WAR season by McGuire. The White Sox currently have 3 catchers: Yaz, Zavala, and Perez. That is a guy on his literal last legs, a guy who was slightly above league average last year, and a young guy who still probably needs work. This is at least, on paper, a league average catcher situation. We probably can't count on either Zavala or Grandal to be a 2+ WAR catcher next year, but if either is, then this is easy. Zavala being a league average catcher would mean he could go for 80-100 games and whoever is ready and healthy could take up the rest. He was really quite good with the bat last year, and the problem he had in 2021 where he couldn't block anything behind the plate was much improved. If Grandal is decent next year after an offseason training routine and new coaches, then again this isn't a problem. If Zavala isn't as good next year, then any improvement from Grandal above "being terrible" still balances that out. If Grandal is terrible for the first month+, then he can be an IL or DFA candidate depending on what Perez is doing. He should not be playing heavily if he is that terrible again. Perez is inexperienced but offensively promising. If he can "not be terrible behind the plate", then it is a good thing long term if he can get some plate appearances if and when one of their other catchers gets hurt. You would really like him to catch some big league games this year, even if he struggles. It is not at all difficult to find a 1 WAR catcher. We know this because the White Sox acquired one last year for Collins, then traded that same catcher away for Diekmann (yuck). If all of these plans implode, it should not be a challenge to acquire another catching option in May or June. It wouldn't be a terrible idea to have a 4th catcher stashed at Charlotte, but isn't worth a lot of money.

  24. “There’s so much talent here, including half a dozen or so still-youngish players who should be part of the organization over the long haul. But when the Sox reached for the top, it’s almost like upper management decided that hanging out at Base Camp was pretty sweet, leaving no need to head for the summit.”

  25. If he had some dignity he would retire on the White Sox. He was more worried about money. Get ready for a steep drop-off in production.

  37. Grandal should not DH more like 5x next season. If he's not catching, he should be riding pine. Unless of course he finds his stroke.

  38. pretty sure Colas will be up day 1. He moved up 3 levels last year, and the whole project bham gave reason to keep him in AA longer. I don't buy the service time stuff, if anything it's just nerves after seeing how Sosa was handled on a straight from AA call up. Colas needs reps, he got more where he was.
    2 points
  39. If they weren't going to play some sort of service time game with him, there was zero reason to leave him in the minor leagues in September of last year.

  41. Criminally underrated, even by his own fan base. The consummate pro. The best thing to happen to the Sox since the WS. It absolutely kills me to see him sign with that lowlife franchise. He will be missed, and when he retires I'll probably get an Abreu jersey.

  42. Of all of the issues, this isn't even a top 5.

  43. Nothing. They still have a top 10 catching duo and limited funds. Grandal post knee surgery and rehab should be better. Hahn made this bed...he can sleep in it.

  44. If you're RH, there is NO hill on which you die on. Your job is to give a lawyerly and thoughtful gloss on BS decisions made over your head so as to make chicken s%*# seem like chicken salad. In exchange you get a very good salary and more importantly job security for life. Sure there may be other GMs that make 3-5m a year and you might be stuck between 1-2m but so what, those checks are guaranteed for as long as JR is around, rain or shine. If you've got that gig you don't "die on a hill" ever. You milk it until its absolutely dry.

  46. There have been 5,142 regular season Sox games since 8/2/90. Frank Thomas, Paul Konerko or Jose Abreu played 1B in a 3,915 of them (76%).
