  1. Honestly this is the dumbest shit. You are taking at bats and defensive reps from players, pitchers aren't getting work. This is not cool

  6. I get that in the first week of Spring Training coming off a COVID year that there are a limited number of pitchers and pitches available each day, but if we're going to make up rules and allow a team to end an inning early, then how about allowing the runners to go back out on base to start the next inning?

  7. not sure why this is even a thing, in that case why even keep spring training records

  11. I completely agree with you here. I don’t think Joses words mean or should mean Jacksquat but Vaughn and Kopech both absolutely need to be in AAA to start the year. And that doesn’t seem to be the current narrative, and that is.....shortsighted and dumb.

  12. Their website's biffed up, for sure. Mrs. Stanky and I got scheduled for Tuesday (today) on Saturday at 6 AM when they put the openings up, but our second shots are at different (but closeby) stores than the first. I got the Moderna jab and no adverse reaction 9 hours later.

  13. Its almost like he is going out of his way to be stupid. This kind of shit is going to keep this thing around for a while. The same people who support this shit are not going to get vaccinated because it's the flu after all. Here in my wife school district the parents want the school opened up 5 days a week, full time without any restrictions. They are now complaining that the kids have to wear masks. For those people I have a shirt.

  19. I got my vaccine apt with Jewel tomorrow. Woot. So far Jewel is allowing you to select either the two-shot model or the J&J single shot. So Walgreens opens their APTs up in the morning it seems. Jewel just randomly drops there's. I have been scouring the website trying every 5 minutes for a few days. I finally got lucky.

  23. I have conflicting info on that. I have no idea how old the kid is. The White Sox are signing him though whenever that is. As of now, the next period is scheduled for July 2 2021. It's expected to be moved back though because current period would only be 6 months then. If that happens, the players with deals for this July wouldn't sign until next January. Then the players (who already have commitments) for J2 2022 wouldn't be able to sign until January 2023. Meanwhile, the collective bargaining agreement expires in December and there could be an international draft anyway.

  24. I certainly wouldn't let the player's union dictate my roster/service time strategy and so would not advance either of these young pitchers to the active roster coming out of Spring Training. It's not like you're going to get a union concession because you did. I'd send them to Charlotte with instructions to use them together as a tandem starting pitcher until they were comfortable in that roll. Lopez and Flores can serve as your long men until the young starters are ready or you need a fifth starter. The Sox seem hellbent on bringing them north but no one knows if or how much they'll be needed during April and early May or if they can handle it. Why would you burn service time on such a high risk strategy. I don't get it.

  25. What do you like about him? He's 31. He put up a .600 OPS last year...and his career OPS is .729. He's basically Leury Garcia and we already have him.

  26. White Sox Jimmy Cordero: The White Sox bullpen is stacked with intriguing pitchers about to embark on their first full seasons. We're highlighting Cordero because his bloated ERA (6.08 in 26 innings) tells a misleading story about his 2020. His sinker-slider combination suppressed contact at an elite rate last season, permitting him to rank in the 96th percentile of exit velocity. That didn't prevent him from allowing 11 hits per nine frames, but we don't think that will carry into the new year. As an added bonus, Cordero has the best short-sleeve game in the majors since the days of Joel Peralta. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlb-breakout-candidates-one-player-from-all-30-teams-whos-ready-to-step-up-in-2021-season/

  27. At least Cuomo, Newsom, and Whitmer (to a lesser extent) have been owned, amirite? Because the age of "political retribution" is seemingly with us as a permanent feature if it wasn't already beginning in the 1990's.

  36. I'm not sure why you dont like him...I feel like Mendick can be a nice part of the surge. He plays all infield positions...plus defensively...put up .740 OPS in the minors. Seems like a near perfect utility player. If hes got to play two weeks he'll be solid...but not so good he wants to leave for starting spot.

  37. @raBBit we sure Jimmy is out of options? I thought he was too and that was the reason he was being passed around the league when we grabbed him, but MLBTR didn't list him as one of the Sox out options (Evan Marshall and Jose Ruiz) and Fangraphs also shows that he has an option left. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/03/out-of-options-2021.html https://www.fangraphs.com/roster-resource/depth-charts/white-sox

  39. Also, a second round pick of the Rangers in 2012. I saw him play yesterday (?). He looks pretty athletic. A Boras Corp. client who'll make $900K if he makes the squad.

  40. Nick Williams, we picked him up around same time as cespedes. He had some decent success hitting years ago when he first came up then fell off a clip. But sox paid him a decent amount (900k) so they clearly saw some talent there.

  41. After three years we’ll only have Anderson, Eloy, Robert, Moncada, Vaughn, Madrigal, Cespedes, Cease, Kopech, Crochet, Kelly, Thompson, Vega, Bummer, Heuer and anybody like Giolito who may or may not be signed to an extension to build around. It’s almost like it ended before it even begun! Hopefully they all pan out because there is no way they will acquire another player over the next three years!

  43. Renteria burnt Cordero into the ground, curious how he'd be if managed effectively but may not make the 26 man (shouldn't)
    1 point
  44. Watching him last year, he pitched a lot better than his numbers would indicate. I remember him getting a lot of ground balls that were not fielded, which could or should have been fielded, and were not called errors. Also a lot of grounders IIRC that may have been more defensive positioning issues. Regardless the stuff is definitely there. There are a lot of players in AAA and some on the 40-man that have nowhere near his ability, so might as well hang on to him and give him a shot. He was initially really good after coming over from Washington IIRC. Also, the Katz factor. If anyone thinks Katz can help Lopez, then he certainly should be able to help Cordero. Cordero is a whole lot closer to being "right" than Lopez is.

  45. I'm really curious to see what sort of mechanical changes Katz made with Cease. If Cease maintained his 2020 performance that would be a huge disappointment because he had a 6.36 FIP (80th out of 81 pitchers with 50 IP) and a 5.87 xFIP (79th). His LOB% was 81.7% (league avg is 74%). Hitters had a .238 BABIP despite being in the bottom 25% of the league in xSLG, xBA, Exit Velocity, and Hard Hit %. Essentially he got about as lucky as you could get last year. That said his stuff is filthy and he has so much room to improve and could do so very rapidly. He has the potential to be a star if he improves his command and it could easily happen this year. The projections for him all seem to believe that his K/9 will go back up and his walks will go down. I believe that too, but he needs to be a whole lot better this year. One reason I'm optimistic is that his splits when starting 1-0 vs 0-1 in 2020. After 1-0 (.310/.468/.643) vs AL avg of (.256/.357/.444) After 0-1 (.157/.229/.324) vs AL avg of (.219/.271/.361) Yes its a small sample size, but Cease is absolutely awful when he starts behind in the count and is pretty much elite after a first pitch strike. Getting ahead in the count is usually that last thing to develop for a young pitcher and hopefully this is the year he gets over that hump. Edit: I looked back through his splits and oh boy.. After 1-0 he has an xFIP of 8.70 and after 0-1 his xFIP is 3.63
