  1. team wins 90 wins = 33 wins 100 wins = 37 hitter stats 30 HR = 11 40 HR = 15 50 HR= 19 200 hits = 74 100 RBI/runs = 37 120 RBI = 44 pitcher stats 20 wins = 7 wins 200 k = 74 300k= 111 40 saves = 15 50 saves = 19 Math is simply /162 ×60 or /2.7, values rounded Which major "milestones" could sox players reach? Anyone 15 homers or 40 RBI? Or 74 hits? I think 7 wins is quite possible for someone who has a good season.

  2. Yermin not making it is a complete and utter joke.

  3. Why did Ross Detwiler make this team?
    4 points
  4. I wouldn't. The guy can't find the zone on a regular basis. The role of an innings filler is to pitch a lot of innings in bad situations. It doesn't help if they can only go two innings because they threw 50 pitches with 4 walks.

  5. I don’t think I ever once thought he’d make it.

  8. It is still not really sustainable because even in a 10 week season a player could have 3 weeks of a .200 babip after 7 weeks of a .400 babip. But the chance that you make it through a season with a 400 babip of course increases but that goes both ways, could also be a true talent 300 babip guy has a 220 babip. But still if a player has posted a 400 babip he is not expected to continue that, there is just less time to fall back to earth.

  9. Eventually. I was confused by this too. The White Sox are allowed to carry 42 players on the 40 man. Ruiz and Mazara are still on the COVID-DL. That counts like the 45/60 day DL where the players 40 man spots aren't currently counted. When those players get back though, the Sox will have to DFA two more players to accommodate.

  10. In the end, it means more new fans, and more interest. Less tanking. Making the sport a bit more national and less regional again. Baseball faces a direct threat from the NBA due to increased head-to-head scheduling the next two years as well as the CBA negotiations. Time to respond. There’s also an opportunity, as football of all kinds will definitely struggle this fall.

  11. Part of MLB's official plan is that their game is a game with distancing built right in. Maintain spacing in dugouts, have people with masks on, and the game takes care of itself by having people spread out so the chances of broad transmission are low. You don't cancel an official game because a player tests positive that day under that setup. It's not an unreasonable strategy and if it was going to fail dramatically there's a good chance we'd already have seen it fail during ST.

  14. Not sure what Yermin did to make it over Collins or someone who can actually play defense. It's not a bad thing to have depth in Schaumburg.

  20. My last Opening Day thread was in 2016, a 4-3 win in Oakland. Let's ignore the rest of that season, we want good vibes here. I can't remember the last time I actually expected us to make the playoffs. No matter how/if we get there, these next few months will be fun. Buckle up

  22. Exactly. This is the best thing that could've happened for the White Sox. It won't be 8 next year when we can win the division outright. Expanding the playoffs this year to 8 gives us a real chance to get our guys into the post season a year early. That experience will hopefully prepare them for next season's playoffs.

  23. I think the criticism of the 3 game series stems from game 1 of the series. Let's say the Sox get the 8th seed and Yankees get the 1. If Giolito has a great game and outduels the Yankees best, which is very possible, the Yankees are in trouble. They face elimination because they got beat by a team with a great ace. Now the Yankees have to win game 2. A five game series and to a bigger degree, 7 game series, takes a lot of the fluke out of it.

  26. Yeah - I think the one miss they had was preventing a bye for the upper echelon teams. Not fair if you were the best team all season and you get knocked out in a fluky 3 game set.

  29. Hmmm. Not much fat on the 40 man. Seby could go. Detwiler obviously, but its not him with him making roster. Only other guys would be Burdi, Dunning flores, Adolo, Hamilton, Basabe, Foster, Rutherford, and Ruiz. Not really in a hurry to cut any of those guys. Headscratcher keeping Detwiler and Cuthburt around if its going to cost as an interesting young guy.

  30. Are two more cuts coming? Roster resource shows us at 42 at the moment, which makes sense given were at 39, added four, and only cut one. ? https://www.rosterresource.com/mlb-chicago-white-sox/

  31. On second thought, this makes sense given that you don't play outside your divisions this year so taking the best representatives from each divisions is all you can do.

  32. Greedy fucks. Keep watering down the sport until you're spread a mile wide and an inch deep.

  34. Let’s be honest, zero excuse for us not to make the playoffs when we play the Tigers, Royals, & Pirates 25 times. If we can’t squeeze into that 8th and we are relatively healthy, I think it’s time for Ricky to be let go.

  36. Its amazing how many fans believe adding more playoff teams will water down the game. I think it will be the opposite. The problem with baseball is that if you aren't a top 5 ish team in your league you are tanking and rebuilding. Then, you lose all of that talent you acquired to the big spenders. Adding more playoff teams will make teams actually try, which improves the quality of the game. It also means teams will try to keep their stars because they have more of a chance year in and year out. Right now we see the same 7 teams over and over again and everyone else is rebuilding or tanking. Even the middle of the pack teams are in and out of rebuilds and retools on the fly. My preference is top two seeds get a bye for having great seasons. The four other wild cards play a best of 5. In this scenario, the top teams actually get a reward for their hard work, and talented teams get a shot to extend their seasons.

  38. I know it! With this one decision, I care so much less about the start of the season. The urgency for wins and the possibility of a crazy last two weeks of the season...now it’s a formality. Boring.

  39. How about ESPN gets to pick who plays who in the playoffs?...plus if the Yankees or Red Sox lose, they still advance to the next round.

  40. I wonder if teams that get off to a bad start really pack it in. From a management perspective a bad team won't effect your gate if there are no fans. Will the 2021 draft order be based off 2020 records?

  41. Maybe I'm autistic or something, but anyone else find it strange than 37% of the roster is comprised of players whose names begin with the first four letters of the alphabet, and 70% for the first ten letters? Makes me wonder if they have lists of players to acquire and they find someone they like before they get to the end of the list.

  42. Are we going to see less of the arguments of so and sos BABIP is unsustainable? Because it sure might be sustainable in a shortened season. Anyone going to hit .400? So much to get excited about. I cannot wait for the season to get going.

  45. I don't believe the WS concern themselves as much as this board does with this extra year of control. Anderson, Moncada and Sale were all extended when they showed they belonged. Madrigal will be valuable now and can be extended when he proves his value.

  47. Will they go back to 10 total next year? Promise that. That’s my concern. It’s supposed to be really hard to make the playoffs in baseball.
