  1. It's too bad...he looked pretty good three years ago. Four years on all we have to show for the Adam Eaton trade is Gio, Lance Lynn and Adam Eaton.

  2. Here's the problem: who starts if ANYONE gets hurt? This is why the offseason was a joke.

  5. yeah, i don't like Manfred but the idea of him trying to make the game more entertaining is one baseball needs to address. The rules have changed plenty in baseball history. Did the mound change destroy the game? Did the DH? When they changed the size of the strike zone did that ruin baseball? When they banned the spitball? Did the wild card or divisional rounds ruin the game? Baseball has a problem; a big length of game problem. With reliever specialization, max-effort pitching all game, and 3 true outcomes rising yearly it's longer than ever and has less action than ever. I love the game, but I don't really want to deal with 4 hour game time averages, and fans aren't going to stay involved for that long. I would say Manfred has failed because none of his ideas really speed up the game but trying to make the game shorter and more active isn't a bad mission by any means.

  6. The guy has a 5.93 ERA in his last 210 IP. He has no business logging any type of significant innings for a team looking to compete. None.

  7. Eaton looks awful...seems like he aged 10 years since we traded him

  8. He spit on a 2-2 slider that every other righty on the team swings at

  9. I think I agree on this point. I would also throw into this same "area of concern" the ability for Rodon, Lopez, Kopech, and Crochet to throw strikes and stay healthy. At the same time, Keuchel and Lynn have to stave off Father's Time's inevitable victory over them for one more season. Its why I remained stunned and disappointed that this front office did nothing this offseason to improve the depth among the rotation. To the topic of this thread, I think its certainly "possible" that this team could play .600 ball. But I think its equally possible that this team could play .500 ball this season.

  10. This is a very unpopular opinion, but I wish we would've traded Grandal and kept McCann. I think McCann is going to have a very solid career, and there's just something about Grandal that doesn't excite me. I just think his best days are behind him. I could be completely wrong on this, but he doesn't seem excited to be there, or motivated.

  11. No way... I would have never thought you believed this based on all your other 20 threads making the same point.

  12. You're of course being deliberately obtuse, but yes, freaking out about ST results is dumb either way. You're not smart for stating the obvious. That said, some fans are excited about the team and can get excited about the discernible physical and mental changes in an oft-injured player who has untapped potential while also understanding it's just Spring Training. Thanks for keeping everyone in check with your great contributions per usual though.

  13. For those of you into White Sox memorabilia or art, there is a great website called Painted by Tom that offers a ton of cool custom made prints at pretty reasonable prices. I’ve got a wall at my house that currently houses four of these prints and I absolutely love them. Below is a link to both the website and Tom’s Twitter account. Also, here is a pic of a recently released Luis Robert print to give you a sense of what I’m talking about. https://www.paintedbytom.com/mlbart https://mobile.twitter.com/tom_paints?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^author

  15. Many will eventually come to that conclusion, slowly but surely. If MLB goes automated strike zone with the the new CBA, his value really takes a hit.

  17. And Charlotte innings = White Sox innings? There's literally no harm in letting him start games in Charlotte, unless of course you find it necessary to give those innings to Matt Tomshaw instead?

  23. It had nothing to do with a lack of intensity. Did they lack intensity against a bad Drexel team? Great defensive teams (like Loyola) tend to make good offensive teams look lethargic. No different than what a great pitcher does to a great lineup in baseball.

  24. McCann is a leader, which is a very attractive attribute to have in your catcher on the team. Its the reason why I liked him so much, and then he just broke out offensively, which was the selling point for me. Plus the pitchers loved him. Grandal doesn't seem to have the same leadership instincts.

  25. I get where you are coming from. McCann was a favorite of mine and I just haven't bought in on Grandal all the way. However, hope I am wrong, and makes me wonder what I liked so much about McCann.

  28. Oddly enough if someone had asked me to pick the least likely player to fall to TJ surgery I think Cordero would have topped my list. Just something about the way he went out there with the short sleeves and big guns made the dude seem invincible. I really feel for the guy and hope he makes a full recovery.

  31. So if Engel is going to miss any time, they will call on an oft injured 35 year old who has less than 200 plate appearances the last 3 seasons combined. who will have virtually no spring training in hopes he can provide decent numbers right away. OK Cheesy.

  35. Keep trying around 7:30am. I would often see what you described, and sometimes I’d be able to book the first dose but then it would say no appts available for second dose, try again later. Finally broke through this morning - first shot is Tuesday!

  36. I have no problem feeling bad for the guy, but I’m going to have a hard time feeling sick to my stomach for any dude who made 3 quarters of a million dollars in three years and whose career isn’t necessarily over. The guys who we should feel really bad for are the minor leaguers who are unlikely to ever make it to the majors and literally paid under minimum wage.

  37. Personally I think all of the owners should be cut the fuck out, the federal government should operate the league, the cities run the teams, and all the player salary money goes into a pool and is split up at the end of the year based upon the actual on-field statistical performance according to formula, with a high minimum salary going to everyone. There's a lot wrong with the way players are paid. The first thing wrong with the system is that owners get anything at all. The second thing wrong with the system is that the players are indentured servants for what is likely to be their most productive years. Most players who are good enough to play at the MLB level aren't even going to reach FA through the arb process normally: they'll hit FA after getting cut first. The third thing wrong is that players who aren't good anymore like Adam Dunn as an excellent example or Chris Davis now, who aren't even MLB level anymore, still keep getting all of this big money from the system that doesn't go to the players who are actually producing. There's too much to actually fix within the context of MLB. It'll never actually be a fair system for the players and especially it will never be a fair system for the public and the tax payers.

  42. Thanks for the random weekly Torkelson update.

  43. Torkelson finally got his first hit but he is 1 for 17 with 10 Ks and 3 walks. I wouldn't be worried about 1 for 17 if I was a tigers fan but 10 Ks in 20 PAs clearly shows that he is not ready at all and probably won't be ready until mid 2022.Vaughn on the other hand looks pretty good, hitting 300 with good plate discipline and decent strikeout numbers (16% so far this spring, if he can keep that under 20 this season it would be great).

  44. MLB has hired mostly trash in the Commissioner office, starting with the first, committed segregationist Landis. So glad Landis’ name was finally expunged from the MVP trophy so Jose Abreu’s award wasn’t tainted last season. The current assclown commissioner was so drunk he couldn’t speak without slurring his speech while presenting what he deems as “The Piece of Metal” last October to the Dodgers. There are several valid candidates for worst Commissioner ever. In the end, these are the (always) men hired by the owners, to represent the owners. The same owners who have great disdain for those who play the game, the fans who cheer them, and on many occasions the integrity of the game.
