Honestly, if we could extend Lucas for something similar we should definitely explore it. I get the years carry a lot of risk, but that’s a pretty reasonable AAV.3 points

So I exported the BP Catcher Stats and sorted them by the Free agent catchers. Here's some good-to-knows (this is 2021 only) Best FA catchers rated at blocking: Yan Gomez (.4 Blocking Runs) Roberto Peres (.2 Blocking Runs) Alex Avila (.2 Blocking runs) Austin Romine (.1 Blocking runs) Sandy Leon (.1 Blocking Runs For Context: Yaz 0.0 so...uh err Seby -0.2 Zack -0.6 Best rated at Throwing out runners Kurt Suzuki - 0.3 Wilson Ramos - 0.1 Stephen Vogt - 0.1 Jose Lobaton - 0.1 For Context: Zack Collins - 0.4 Yaz - 0.1 Seby - 0.0 (BP takes into account Best rated at Framing Maldonado - 2.3 Vogt - 1.7 Knapp - 1.2 Mathis - 0.7 Vaille - 0.1 For Context: Yaz - 3.1 Seby - 0.7 Zack - -10.1 Overall Defensive Adjustment Maldonado - 1.8 Vogt - 1.8 Knapp - 0.4 (Yaz was 3.2, Seby 0.0) Offensive wRC+ for those catchers: Maldonado - 63 (steamer projection - 73) Vogt - 64 (steamer projection - 83) Knapp - 17 (steamer projection - 72) (Seby - 66 with steamer projection of 60) Robinson Chirinos has a negative CDA of 0.3 (essentially he is completely average in all categories) with a wRC last year of 108 and a steamer of 85. I think looking at this, you are probably best off throwing ST invites at Chirinos, but maybe a ML deal to Vogt. There would be good reason to go after Yan Gomez, he provides nearly average offense and good blocking, but BP hates his framing and throwing, which could be an issue.3 points

I’m pretty amazed by the overall scope of the project. For some reason I tend to like the Captain America movies the best so far. No idea why. Edit: Maybe it’s the origin stories that I seem to enjoy because the first Thor also stood out to me and the first Guardians.2 points

The White Sox’s minor leagues stank in 2013-2016. Those same teams produced Semien, Bassitt, Anderson, and Tatis. There can and will be individual success stories in overall bad systems.2 points

I like Kenny a little more after his statement. I like being a Sox fan a little more when I realize the number of barriers the organization has broken.2 points

Fucking best I have ever seen a bulls game in person since the Jordan era. They destroyed the Lakers tonight. I know no Lebron but wow are the Lakers old and slow and the Bulls are the opposite - so long and athletic and the shots. Ball had revenge on his mind, Derozan was unstoppable and Zach was Zach. Where is the hot sauce…shit that was fun.2 points

Look at his stats vs. RHP. In his career, he is a .265 hitter, but with a .371 OBP and a .502 SLG% and with an acceptable SO rate. It's even better, in recent years. He could quite possibly be our best hitter vs. RHP. It's enough for me to get "excited".1 point

Still my favorite Spider-Man. The first Spider-Man movie along with the original X-men movie will always hold a special place in my heart. Plus Dafoe as Goblin was my favorite villain.1 point

That’s sick. Just in time for the new Spider-Man movie too, think of all the cross promotions they coulda done with Disney. They blew it.1 point

Raimi set the bar for the MCU, the humor tone and style. IMO he crashed out making SM3 but he was forced to put something in the movie he didn't want to(venom) and it changed everything. I am REALLY looking forward to Raimi Dr Strange1 point

I'll second this. I understand why Sony made having an MCU character in each film and why Tony gave Peter a high tech suit, but god, I just want Peter to shine on his own.1 point

I saw I got a laugh emoji for this so I had to check if Conforto signed with the Sox. No he didn't . So I laugh at your laugh emoji.1 point

I thought of better healthier years to Eloy and Robert and Sheets being an .850ish OPS guy and getting intense instructions on playing the OF better. Some level of effectiveness from Kopech is a long way from giving what Rodon gave them. They missed having an ace in the playoffs and they need one to replace him. They are woefully short on pitching depth and not very good defensively. If the Sox stand pat, which no one expects them to do, Soxtalk will sound like 1000 banshees. I know you aren't advocating they stand pat, but being as good as 2021 because of internal options is almost 100% not likely to occur.1 point

I have no idea how it's quantified or how much stock I should put into it, but of centers with more than 10 min played per game, Tony Bradley is 3rd in defensive rating. He's no bueno offensively, at least this far, but with the offensive pieces around him, should he be looked at as a guy who should get more minutes?1 point

I'm beginning to wonder if it's possible that a lot of these guys are going to sign early because they won't be able to negotiate during the lockout and if it goes on into the beginning of the season they'll be without contract for the entirety of that time and they'd rather know where they're going to play.1 point

The White Sox have no idea how other teams operate or what the value of their MLB guys are across the league. I think many are giving them the benefit of the doubt that Carlos "wasn't healthy and they'd know" but I don't understand giving this team the benefit of the doubt. If Carlos signs a multi-year pack north of 30 million or a one year deal like Noah, the Sox will look like complete fools again because they were so scared they might have to pay a guy they decided to let him go without getting the draft pick in return. Pretty amazing honestly. Teams like the Jays are out there spending 100's of millions and the Sox are worried about paying one guy 18.5 million if (and it's a big if) he accepted their offer. I saw a couple games and here are my thoughts: Jose Rodriguez Util: I kinda liked this kid. He's a tough out w/a simple quick compact stroke and plus bat to ball skills. He uses the middle of the field and really grinds out his AB's. It's 30 power but at only 20 years old he has time to get a stronger. He has solid avg actions and arm strength. His range is fringy so he may not be an option at SS but he can handle 2B/3B and likely a corner OF spot in a pinch. He's a high floor/low ceiling guy who could be an everyday player on a non-contending team or a solid bench guy on a championship level team. Acquire Yoelqui Cespedes LF: He has the tools to be a big leaguer but needs to find an approach to even stay in the big leagues let alone to be a productive everyday player. He's not tall but he's strong w/a muscular build. He's an (early) early action player looking to ambush the first pitch he sees. He has solid avg bat to ball skills, plus bat speed and above avg raw but doesn't make nearly enough consistent hard contact. His defensive actions are decent w/fringe avg arm strength. He won't kill you in RF but profiles best in LF. It all depends on if he can develop some plate discipline and work the count in his favor so he can consistently drive the baseball but at 24 years old the clock is ticking. Do not acquire McKinley Moore RHP: He was ok. 94-95 w/some life thru the zone. Hard curveball has decent shape and bottom. The cutter is hard w/some late break. He threw strikes with all 3 pitches and got swings and misses on the breaking balls. It's a different pitch mix and he could end up as a middle reliever/low leverage guy. Do not acquire Johan Dominguez RHP: He got knocked around. He's a hard thrower but it's straight w/no deception. The slider flashes plus but is inconsistent and the change is below avg. He has avg control but lives in the middle of the plate. He's got up and down guy written all over him. Do not acquire1 point

I kinda pulled out the choice bits. The yankees are at 40 now, but they aren't as overloaded as usual. That said, losing Garret Whitlock last year was among the bigger acquisitions that happened in the offseason.1 point

Nice find but I can't get behind pay wall. Perhaps a reasonable summary without blatant theft LOL. I normally do a post on this but couldn't do it with looming work stoppage. Major concern with Ford is a nearly 33% k rate at AA. Would worry part time work in majors would be even higher.1 point

Highly doubt the Sox lock up anyone at all by Dec.1st. I don't see much of anything happening with the Sox until after the new CBA is agreed on whenever that may be. Conforto is Boras. If Conforto is expected to get near $20M for 4 or 5 years, he's not coming here period.1 point

43% of MLB players are either Hispanic (32%), Black (8%) or Asian (3%). Their representation at the top executive positions (GM, President, Owner)? A small fraction of this. The Selig Rule memo was released during the last millennium, on April 14, 1999. But yeah you are correct, executives such as Kenny Williams, Theo Epstein and others in the industry who recognize and seek to change this disparity are wrong. Not that I expect someone who posted your drivel to actually comprehend and/or accept these statements. PS - Your weak-ass Basketball/Football participation theory doesn't hold water. NFL - There are the same number of Black head coaches as in 2003 (the year the Rooney Rule was implemented), and one General Manager (Chris Grier). NBA - Until 2017, there were more racist NBA owners (at least two now known - Sterling, Sarver) than NBA Presidents (one - Doc Rivers, who sadly had to work for Sterling), and only three GMs (Dell Demps, Steve Mills and Masai Ujiri). The level of black participation over the 70 years prior had zero impact on who the owners hired or, more accurately, did not / refused to hire. It took an actual commitment by ownership, the people with final say with these decisions, to begin making clear and widespread changes to how their league was run. It's clear MLB and NFL owners collectively have a long way to go, two plus decades after issuing their respective "rules", to begin to make an actual difference.1 point

We need a #2 catcher, but I’d argue it’s much lower priority that RF, 2B, the rotation, and pitching. Should be able to get a defensive catcher on the cheap late in the offseason, so zero reason to commit a lot of resources to it now IMO.1 point

I liked Pina at the early projected $2 - 2.5 mil/yr. I don't know what Hahn is thinking on this, but with Grandal's age and last year's injuries, I'm thinking that a #2 catcher (not so much a 'backup') is a high priority.1 point

Yes, until you change the ownership mindset (old boy network), you will continue to get the same results. The Sox advanced in the playoffs only once in a century of mostly moribund baseball. They were led by a GM and Manager given their first opportunity in their respective roles. This is what Kenny is asking for, giving people an opportunity.1 point

I've never been a fan of hiring someone based on color, or forcing interviews based on color. Hire the best person, whoever that may be. Wasn't Willie Harris interviewed last year here just because we HAD to interview a minority due to some rule? Poor Willie, that would suck to be a "token interview", since they already made their horrible minds up with Larussa.1 point

Why is Kimbrel’s option being listed here? Are you really that angry at the front office that you need to throw shade at any and all opportunity? Like this is a great idea for a thread, but I guess it’s too much to ask you to keep your emotional subtext out of it.1 point

I'm too young to remember anything in the early to mid 90's. Malice in the Police was pretty big. Not top 3, but top 10 for sure. Seeing NBA players swinging at fans was wild.1 point
