My #1 concern coming into this season was TLR, and that hasn't changed.

Dang I have tickets next friday. Seems like one of those seasons where I'll see like an unbelievable amount of VV starts. I think in 2015 or 16 I saw like 80% of Dylan Axelrods starts.

Except for some reason Yolbert has a 25% walk rate to start the season. He also walked a bunch in the AFL I noticed. I hope they push him to Charlotte soon. Dude is 25.

Here is how I look at it. - It's a very long season and it just started. Like any season, there will be large ups and downs. While it seems doubtful the Sox are ever fully healthy, they will certainly be stretches where they are more healthy than they are now, and they will be much better for it. - Like last season, they are 100% going to have to overcome some of the decisions of leadership. It is what many of us feared last offseason and it has absolutely come true. - Just like it was clear this offseason, it's incredibly obvious they simply didn't take the needed steps to actually improve this team. Yes, the core is very good. They will win plenty of games. But the Blue Jays have a very good roster. The Astros have a very good roster. The Rays have a very good roster. The Dodgers have a very good roster. We should expect and demand the best roster possible, and they simply failed in that regard. I don't know how you can argue against that. I still think the Sox win this division. Might end up closer than people originally thought, but they'll get fat this summer. But more importantly...who cares? I don't care about winning a division. No one should.

I wish the sox had a real manager.

lol how fragile does TLR think these guys are? This is a game that is played at least 6 times a week. If guys can't play back to back days, what are they doing in the Majors?

Here’s the thing. Dallas Keuchel may be approaching the end of the road. Even if Lucas comes back soon, how do we survive with a rotation that only has three good starters? Beyond that, Hahn did absolutely NOTHING to address our weakness against tough RHP this offseason? How do we overcome that in the near term? And finally, Tony La Russa is going to continue making horrible baseball decisions that cost us games. There is no cure for that when the owner has empowered him over the entire front office. I’m not looking to be a pessimist here or overreact to a bad double header, but multiple flaws were highlighted today and none of them have an easy solve. Hopefully the roster is talented enough to overcome these weaknesses, but it’s very clear to me that Jerry & Hahn have opened up this team to unnecessary risk with their coaching & personnel decisions.

The team clearly was not ready to play today in game 1. I'm not sure what TA and Abreu were doing during the 2 off days, but they showed up like they smoked to celebrate 4/20 prior to the game. Keuchel started out pitching fine and then unraveled after the error in the 2nd inning. He went from keeping everything low in the zone in the first inning to leaving everything up in the zone. We know what happens when Keuchel does that. The struggles for Robert are a little concerning. He has hit some balls hard during his 0-20 stretch, but he's looking overmatched almost every at bat. Unfortunately it reminds me of his at bats in September of 2020. I think he'll be able to hit himself out of it, but his slump has come at a time where just about everyone in the lineup is not hitting. Abreu is off to his usual bad April start. Grandal is hitting like crap without his usual patience and walks. Eloy looks lost at the plate and can't decide what stance he wants to use. TA is hitting, but his defense today bordered on sabotage. Vaughn did have a good game 1, but looked fairly sluggish game 2. Without a Yermin-esque performance to carry this offense, we're gonna be starring at .500 by the end of April if our big hitters don't figure it out. IMO, if this team really felt as embarrassed as they should have for game 1, they'll come out tomorrow and jump on Plesac like they jumped on Civale to clinch the Central last year. That was a team that looked motivated to win. Right now they don't look like they have that motivation and it's hard to convince me otherwise with the showing from the team and TLR today.

I’d love to say what my heart is thinking right now, but I’d be life-timed from Soxtalk three times over. As such, a simple fuck Tony will do for now.

I knew this lineup was coming earlier, but it's frustrating to not hold the guys accountable and throw them back out there to redeem themselves in game 2.

Treating a regular season game against your main divisional rival like it’s less than a split-squad game is a fucking disgrace. This lineup is worse than any we saw during the rebuild.

Robert has been incredibly unlucky - his wOBA vs his xwOBA is 193 points different. One of the five most unlucky players in the game this year so far.

Even if 2021 Moncada is who he is moving forward, that is an ~20% above average MLB offensive producer (per OPS+ & wRC+) who plays well above average defense at his position. That, ladies is gentlemen, is called a 4-5 WAR player. Some of you guys are nuts.

Moncada is a great third baseman. I didn't mean to compare him to Hall of Famers. But Moncada is pretty damn amazing with the glove at 3B. Pretty good hitter too. I think he's so good you don't mess with him at all now that he's comfy at 3B. You work around that and that will mean Sox probably need to trade Burger or make him full time DH and trade Vaughn. I like Burger and Vaughn too.
