Ok as a doc and guy who has also dealt with severe back issues, I will add a few things. One, listen to the interview. The guy was truly trying to help the team and gave and is giving his all. We can disagree in hindsight on his decisions but I can't disagree with the effort or some of the thoughts behind his decisions. RE backs and surgery. In most instances, surgery is the last option. You try to rest it and rehab it which is pretty much impossible during a season and worse as a catcher. It was not mentioned in the podcast but he probably had (or should have had) epidural steroid injections at the level of the disc bulges. I lived on LESBs for about 30 years while playing significant golf and working until they quit helping. Originally, they were amazingly helpful. One a year made everything better but no two backs are the same and no surgeon can guarantee an outcome. Many back surgeries are a coin flip and some people do get worse after surgery. If you talk to someone about to have their fourth operation, they all say "I wish I never let them do the first one". So avoiding surgery is worth trying. Backs are very different outcome wise from necks. Very few professional athletes have back surgeries and return to previous form. Being a world class athlete is hard lol.6 points

We recorded a podcast with Bill Mitchell that will drop next Tuesday and it's pretty informative with info from instructs. He raved about Schultz and the pitching in general is much better with some real sleepers that have been signed internationally.6 points

We need him to play 1 inning behind the plate because it would be the greatest moment in Soxtalk history.5 points

Does Moncada play on Vaughn's shoulders in this scenario?5 points

No one here actually suggested it initially. Some rando twitter account shared a picture of the proposal, and most everyone laughed at its absurdity. No need to come in firing the trade generator around.5 points

All these fake insiders suggesting McCann to the Sox have now been outed.5 points

If they are back can we get rid of the stupid nationwide cringe jingle.4 points

Oh no, I think you are spending waaaaaaay too much time getting upset over responses to random trolls making up trade proposals. I think it is all absurd and can't see having to run down tons of combinations through a trade generator to justify by these imaginary trade proposals are awful, when they were most likely intentionally awful to begin with. If you want to be upset, by all means.4 points

giving up 40 HR DH potential doesn't seem wise to me. If he is out of the field...he is going to absolutely mash.4 points

I don't know where this is from, but if we get the #1 prospect in baseball PLUS someone else for Hendriks, i will drive his ass to Ohare in the middle of this blizzard.4 points

Notice he said their goal is to bounce back and win the AL Central….ahh I remember the good ol days when it was WS Title aspirations4 points

So none of the insiders knew about McCann's no trade, or that the White Sox were on it when they were discussing a McCann deal. Bravo.4 points

Kasper seems like a perfectly nice human being, but if he replaces Jason for 2023 I'll be hoping for more national games where I can listen to Adam Amin on FS1 or something like that.3 points

I think Jerry just tripped over a stack of $100 bills reading this.3 points

Personally, I think a Hendriks for Lindor deal makes the most sense.3 points

Ehh....Sox could really use Eloy's power. If he plays 130 games, he could hit 35+ homers. If he plays 150+, he could in the HR chase. If Eloy has a season he is capable of in 2023, his value will be significantly higher than it is right now with still 3 years of pretty cheap control in today's environment after 2023. I am holding Eloy for sure for the time being.3 points
-
I'd trade Eloy in a heartbeat if we had a good offer for him. I've given up on him staying healthy. I traded him to the Marlins for both of my last two offseason plan projects. White Sox get: McNeil & Alvarez Mets get: Eloy & Liam Done. Heck, if we don't have to cut payroll, then you could go get Conforto.3 points

You complain about everything. You complain when the Sox don't make moves. You complain when the Sox do make moves. You complain when the Sox don't play kids. You complain when the Sox don't churn the back of the 40 man. You complain when the Sox do churn the back of the 40 man. The Sox got a live arm with an option (which is quite important for their roster) for a soon to be 27 year old soft tossing RHP every team in baseball could have had for $100k like 2 weeks ago. While its nothing to write home about, there is certainly no discernible reason to complain about this deal.3 points

2007. I distinctly remember telling a friend that the Sox 2007 bullpen was built to win on-field brawls.3 points

They desperately need outfield depth. If not, get ready to see way too much Sheets, Hamilton and Leury out there.3 points

They've never had WS aspirations. It's always been "Make the playoffs and hope for the best." One year that got them a title, so now they think it can happen again.3 points

Basically all of your offers suck do better or he's playing for the White Sox next year. Also everyone that thought he was going for cash relief need to rethink their trade proposals.3 points

The two main theories out there are the org is a s%*#-show and he wanted to protect himself and that he was simply bitter that we didn’t bring him back. Either way, I’m glad the ridiculous Liam for McCann + B/C prospect rumors can die a quick death.3 points

Look, the whole world knew we were selling Sale/Eaton/Quintana. When you have a commodity people want, your desperation doesn't matter, because teams needs and competition matter more. Even if the Sox are being required by Jerry to cut dollars, Liam Hendriks still makes the back end of every single bullpen in MLB a lot better. Teams will bid for that, because there is no one out there for only dollars who is even close to that level.2 points

Nothing wrong with a flier deal like this. It's a live arm and see if your guys can harness it. If not, send him packing again.2 points
-
The Sox don't have to dump Hendriks. Teams need relief help, and Liam is one of the best in the business. If teams want him, they will have to pay up for him. It really is that simple.2 points

What year was it when Kenny tried to create a super bullpen with like 5 guys that threw 98-100 mph? Problem was that most of them couldn't actually pitch well.2 points

How about the Sox just keep Hendricks and sign Duvall and those other things? JR has the $$$.2 points

And Bob is basically implying the org’s message is “bring us a serious offer or get the f*** out of here.” I think he’s gone if he can land us a quality piece that can help us in 2023 while also freeing up salary space for other needs.2 points

Not Steve Cishek is back? Guess he really missed those dopamine hits from Twitter.2 points

No. First, you’re being messed up by injuries and platoons and defensive replacements. If a team platoons two guys who are way better fielders than Benintendi, those fielders won’t qualify and no one will vote for them for gold gloves because they only played 500 innings. In Benintendi’s best season by UZR, there Royals were only top 5 for team UZR from LF because teams did this and passed them. Second, in 2021, the 16th team had a 0 UZR. So average UZR around the league was basically zero. Benintendi was basically that, in person form, in 2022. Third, the advanced stats don’t all agree. Benintendi’s gold glove season was his best recent UZR season, but his statcast based OAA was actually below average. Then in 2022, his UZR dropped but his OAA didn’t. Overall for him, the stats basically wander around the median, and I took this into account when saying he’s an average defender. They are good enough to say “the White Sox were awful” and everything agrees on that. They aren’t good enough to say “this guy is 3% better than average” to that level of specificity. So overall you’re getting the same story. a guy who played the whole season the last couple years (yay), and whose defense wandered around the average for all LF around the league. Maybe a little better, maybe a little worse, but difficult to say at that level of precision. That did make him a unique player as not many people played 140 games in LF while being decent, but he did.2 points

Kinda sad here. He was our one infielder I felt confident we’d get good defense across third/short/second. Leury has always been bizarrely bad at second.2 points

If the Sox trade Eloy, they should have kept Abreu. If they make this ^ rumored trade with the Mets, they’re even bigger morons than we already believe.2 points

I would quit being a Sox fan if they signed him. I hope he never pitches in the majors ever again.2 points

Stop. He should be in prison.2 points
