his replacement will likely be much better considering Leury spent much of last year in the bottom of qualified hitters. Low talent shouldn’t be celebrated, it should be moved out6 points

I disagree. He was a decent enough utility player with a 760 Ops in 2021.He had an awful year last but overall was a decent ballplayer. I always root for a guy like that who works his tail off just to make it and stick in the MLB. Not everyone on the roster can be the most talented. No team can afford that.3 points

I know Hawk wanted to die in the booth and all that, but that's not exactly conducive to great broadcasting.3 points

He should've retired like 5 years earlier than he did, listening to his calls of games was a chore. He was the soundtrack of my summers growing up and I'll always appreciate him for that, but he just sounded like a cranky and bitter guy when discussing that, although I do agree with him that Jerry should sell :).3 points

Yeah the homerism is strong. Cubs pitching was actually great after the ASB. If Giolito and Kopech are throwing 91-92 mph this year, give me Steele over both of those guys also.3 points

Based on the number of tickets available through the Sox in prime seating areas it appears their season ticket base has crashed. Confusing or not the new pricing strategy appears to be higher than last year for most seats. Not a lot of tickets on Stubhub which makes me believe advance sales are s%*# as well. Whoever decided to raise ticket prices for all seats season ticket or individual along with raising parking needs to be reassigned. They were oblivious to last season and the fan base. No way they make up the lost revenue from empty seats and associated concession and parking revenue through the higher prices. My worry is that the inevitable lousy attendance will be an excuse for the team to not add on in July if they are in the race and they will blame the fans as usual, when their lousy marketing decisions are to blame.3 points

This channel has been adding a lot of 90s Sox games. Hawk was damn good until he turned about 65. Here’s one from 2000. Buehrle throwing about 5 innings of relief-2 points

If Fisk wanted to release info about his health I doubt he would choose Hawk to be the messenger.2 points

I really hope they do this every year. Great for out-of-towners like myself who don't have access to NBCSC. Kind of sucks you don't get the pre- and post- as I enjoy listening to Chuck and Ozzie, and also sucks that I can't really watch spring training (although not many games available anyways), AND no national games (gonna have to figure out how to watch the sox opening day)...but it's still a great deal.2 points

Quoting SSS here provides no real relevant info. No one is disputing that Burger has an option remaining. What you fail to or refuse to understand is that said option is used when he gets sent to Charlotte, not the other way around. Burger would have to make the 26 man roster for that option not to be used. Once the option is used, he can be recalled at any time, for up to 3 times this season. He could stay in AAA all year and no matter what the option is still used. Waiting for an “inevitable” Mondada injury would require use of a limited bench spot to keep Burger with the big club while he rode the pine instead of getting AAA ABs everyday. That would be a horrible usage. Burger is likely a AAAA guy so trying to save his last remaining option really isn’t that big of a deal. Every team has guys like Burger and Sheets, which is why they have no trade value and are still in the org to begin with. This really isn’t difficult to understand.2 points

I know Leury is better than what he was last year, but I always felt he was overvalued by the front office and is a really dumb baseball player. More importantly, he’s just not a great fit for this roster. Glad we are moving on.2 points

If this team is healthy, they're going to win a lot of games. That's been the story the last couple seasons and it will be the story this season.1 point

I'm not out of town but I go to Wisco a lot and it's nice to be able to watch the games on my tablet.1 point

Meh, he's got a .439 career OPS over 332 plate appearances spread across 3 years. If he had options that would be one thing, I'd gladly give him a chance in Charlotte, but how's he going to develop with 3-6 plate appearances per week that are probably going to be pretty ugly based on his prior performance? Romy has a better shot at contributing in the near term, and I'd rather have Burger around in AAA to be called up when the first injury hits.1 point

He'd be a good #4. The out of options thing sucks but no brainer low cost upgrade with potential imo.1 point

Correct. And that final option will be used in 2 days when he's sent to Charlotte. Not when he's recalled later this season. 1 option is good for the whole season.1 point

Pretty impressive rally considering it was 2 on 2 outs and 0-2 count and the score was 6-1. Even after the Romy HR made it 6-4, 3 straight hits with 2 outs tied it. Kath single, Glass double and Gladney the 2 RBI hit up the middle.1 point

Throughout last season's struggles, it always came back to Tony Larussa, for me. He was a league-wide embarrassment and no one wanted to play for him. If it wasn't his boneheaded pitching decisions, it was his boneheaded lineups. If it wasn't his boneheaded lineups, it was his boneheaded situational awareness. If it wasn't his situational awareness, it was his inability to understand the rules of the game....etc., etc., etc. He wasn't a motivator. He didn't believe in the value of the home run. He was an incredibly poor judge of talent. He ignored the importance of momentum and instead trotted out dog s%*# lineups to rest healthy players. I fully believe this team is set to rebound strongly and should win the division. A heavy, heavy burden was removed from everyone's shoulders.1 point

Probably best to just move on from it. Don't have to like him and he is indeed a shitbag. History suggest he'll probably be on the IL before too long anyway. From a baseball standpoint, if he can stay healthy, he'll be useful. Not the first POS the Sox have employed, and won't be the last.1 point

Ugh, already sick of seeing that shitbag’s name every five days, and the season hasn’t even started yet.1 point

If so, they deserve all the heartburn they get for giving him that stupid contract in the first place. Perhaps a family size okra on the side might help it slide down. Num num num num.1 point

Very pleasantly surprised by this move and it has nothing to do with Leury personally. It does however have everything to do with him as a baseball player. He brings nothing to the team to make them better. And maybe, just maybe the Sox finally have a Manager that will put winning above everything else.1 point

It started before Tony with Ricky’s obsession with him. TLR just took it to a whole other level1 point

I personally wish Leury the best. A good guy, always a smile on his face. He could still be useful as a 26th man and I expect he’ll find a new home quickly once he’s eventually released. Not his fault Tony and the FO grossly overvalued him. Good luck, Leury!1 point

I hope it's not the last either. But I thought I read somewhere that the T-Mobile agreement with MLB ran from like 2019-2023. Hopefully they extend it. This is a great deal for, what is it this year now, $140? Would be even better if there were no blackouts ? although I personally can't complain too much. Just can't watch when they play Detroit. Which is less games now with the schedule shift this year.1 point
