  1. I mean, he's a former 16th overall pick that signed for $2.7M was a regular in the top 50 prospects in the game for a few years and made his MLB debut at age 22. Obviously, the big leagues have not been kind to Touki, but this isn't some random guy. These are exactly the type of dudes that can turn into useful pieces occasionally. Its unlikely - he is out of options, so there isn't much flexibility until you have DFA and likely lose him again, but there is absolutely zero logical reason to complain about a move like this.

  3. I love Touki. He can spin the living crap out of a breaking ball he just hasn't been able to throw consistent strikes and I have zero confidence he's going to figure it out with these bunch of goofs.

  4. Please stop swinging at the first pitch when the pitcher couldn't throw a strike the previous batter. It's all I ask in life.

  5. LMFAO I loved that 2nd look back by Eloy to check with the ump on the ball 4 call

  6. I see no problem placing a claim on a guy with talent who hasn't put it together yet. Yeah the chances that he does it here are extremely slim, but that's what good teams do — they dig for good talent vs. trying to claim the MadBums over the world for depth.

  7. Giolito will be gone. They’ll buy out Lynn for $1 mil. That leaves you with Cease, Kopech and Clevinger Then what? What free agent pitcher are they spending 100+ million on, and what historical data tells you they will? They’ll have a large hole at catcher and the FA market isn’t a good one. This team was built to compete for 4 seasons, 2020-2023. Per usual, they have one of the worst farm systems in baseball. The reinforcements aren’t coming from the farm. I know you are on some crusade to tell Soxtalk it’s boring to just be negative, but objectively speaking, there is no evidence to tell us 2024 will be any better than 2023 for the Sox. More likely will be worse.

  8. If Zach Remillard keeps getting game winning hits, this team becomes a lot more likeable

  10. He’s one of the few interesting players. Considering he probably has limited value at the moment, rather see if he can go on a monster run in the second half.

  11. It's our time now. We have too much pitching to not roll to the division crown in this division.

  15. If that call went against the White Sox, I'd be pissed. But I love it today, even though, it's pretty bad. And he wasn't even blocking the plate.

  16. I'll just call him Taint. As in he's now tainted with the stink of the White Sox org.

  17. We can thank Buster Posey and Rob Manfred for having no spine. People get hurt playing ball, get over it.

  18. No he sucks cause I said so. It's like people forget Humber had pixie dust for a solid year with the team until he threw a perfect game.

  19. https://www.yahoo.com/news/minor-league-player-hit-514-135201216.html Jo Adell would be a legit buy lower trade candidate. Still a ton of bust potential but they need to take some chances with these upcoming trades.

  20. The Rays signed a couple pitchers to minor league deals in the last week or so, too. Obviously the Sox org sucks ass from the top down, but this is the type of move any team makes throughout the season, particularly after a few injuries start piling up

  21. As an old guy, I really dislike how much the game has changed, so that I barely recognize it anymore, but hey, we won so all is well.

  22. Shoulders in pitchers are so complicated that I wouldn’t ever bet either way when there’s pain. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s back in 15 days and they say he’s fine, I wouldn’t be surprised if the articles 6 weeks from now say he’s still having pain and they don’t know why. But;, the fact that soreness in muscles that weren’t used at full power for a year is likely is why no other team in baseball would ramp a guy up to bring a full time big league pitcher only 13 months after the surgery. It’s bonkers.

  24. Elvis' HR was the first from a White Sox starting SS this season (his other was at 2B). This leaves the Nationals' CF as the last remaining starting position to not hit a HR this year. Marlins' 3B had been a holdout position too, until Segura hit his first against the Sox during the previous homestand. Andrus' slash over the last 7 (.280/.333/.480) quietly looking more like last year's version (.271/.309/.464 with the Sox). If he wants to get hot for a few weeks, I won't complain. He's at 98 career homers, would be cool to see him hit 100.

  25. Fair. The only thing I think can work is they need to become the Rays in one major way: A guy gets to be 1.5-2 years from the end of his rookie deal, trade him no matter what. Always restocking. No extensions. Keep them hungry and then trade them. No exceptions. Then spend the 175M per year on major free agents. But they won’t do that. i still can’t believe they canned Ricky and brought in TLR. Gnight dudes.

  29. So to me there are two questions to that play. The first is whether or not the rule was applied correctly, and the second is whether or not the rule is reasonable. It does seem to me that the rule was applied correctly. I don't agree that the throw "clearly" beat the runner as the runner had started his dive by the time the ball was in the glove. It's also clear that the runner was angling for the foul side of the plate and that's the side where the catcher set up. The runner had to change his path to avoid a collision. As to whether the rule is reasonable, I think not. I don't think that kind of play should be considered a violation, although I don't know how you tweak the rule to fix that.

  30. I don’t get how he was ruled safe there as the ball clearly beat him to the plate

  31. More White Sox specialty: dumpster diving other teams cast off's. Hahn has made a habit of this because the minor league system is so awful.

  32. Grifol was quoted as saying this is a "precautionary" move by the White Sox that he's only sore and they are taking it safe since he had TJS. If you believe that I've got a bridge in NYC I can sell you.

  34. Baseball is dying because the owners have worked the past few decades to maximize revenue per attendee. Owners have shut down dozens of minor league markets, by and large moved all games to a pay cable/satellite model, rendered the regular season near meaningless for most teams by having a 12 team playoff farce mostly if not all on cable/pay TV, cancelled the 2020 season and tried the same with their latest lockout. Can't even walk up to the ticket window, vendor or concession stand with cash, excluding people who were able to attend in the past. 35. He should spend some time in minors and bring him up later in the year and try and turn him into our closer starting next year. Ideally you have a few years of him dealing and / or turn him into something you can churn at next deadline for talent.

  36. 100 percent. And none of this would have been an issue if they did anything and got any real value from their own draft picks since they made all the trades. But they have gotten s%*# from internal draft picks and the farm. Literally s%*# - Burger and Vaughn are it and I wouldn’t say that is much. No pitching - no nothing. It’s pathetic.

  37. Grifol did remember to challenge based on blocking the plate rule. But yeah his bullpen management is suspect to say the least. Must've been a fun game to be at. You'll always remember Popeye's major league debut.

  42. It’s totally true. When is the last time a local guy broke something on Sox (that isn’t doing this as a hobby as a blogger)? When they trade Lucas Giolito, it’ll be a national guy with the story because it’s basically how pro sports works.

  43. Once they finally fire him, it'll take 10 years to repair the damage this man has done. But they'll just replace him with Chris Getz, the man in charge of player non-development so add another 10 years. The entire franchise has to be torn down and rebuilt starting at the top with the ownership. What are the odds that will EVER happen? The Sox are just now entering a long, long period of irrelevancy.
