2024 simply doesn’t matter. This team has no chance of competing next year and you have to do what’s best for 2025 forward.

They can always cut bait on the fat of the 40-man when needed. It doesn’t seem very likely that anyone else is at risk of being selected and kept on a major league roster all year long, at least that's how they're viewing it, and I'd have to tend to agree with that assessment. They aren't burning option years unnecessarily either, which isn't nothing.

The issue isn’t with “spa days” for players. You’re making incredible amount of investments into assets (well at least some MLB teams are) and you need to take care and maintain those assets so they perform at the highest level. The issue is players taking “advantage” of those spa days. We have enough data to tell us Eloy, Moncada, and Robert to a degree seem unwilling to take the field unless they are at 100%, which isn’t very likely come July, August. And with the inmates seeming running the asylum on 35th and Shields, it’s going to lead to a lot of missed games from players and a bad environment. There is also enough evidence from former players over the last 2-3 seasons that the clubhouse hasn’t been all that interested in winning. Burger said it after his first game with the Marlins. Pedro isn’t the guy, and this roster ain’t it either. As always, nothing changes until it changes at the top.

But honestly even if players are healthy I expect them to get off days. I'd expect most are targeted to play around 150 games if fully healthy, which would be roughly 3 off games a month.

That’s all fair, but holding onto to Cease as part of a plan to lose 90 games rather than 100 will cost us greatly beyond 2024. Next year will almost certainly be a disaster no matter what we do and I’d rather suffer a bit in hopes of having a team that can win a shitty AL Central by 2026.

Ditto. I'm also of the naive mindset that the team has at least a spiritual existence independent of the ownership group that is holding it hostage. My loyalty is to that team, and that laundry, and there's nothing Jerry or anyone else can do to break the bond. Even still, ended my season ticket package last year and went to two games: Opening Day (continuing a long streak) and Halfway to St. Pat's for a long-running friends/family group outing. I expect I'll continue at that level and pray that somehow the team will reward my loyalty someday.

2024 will be the end of my season tickets (small plan). I've been doing them for I think like 7 or 8 years now. I'll still go to games for the giveaways, but it will only be from 3rd party ticket resellers. Parking is the most expensive part of the entire day, otherwise I'd go to more as well.

I've been to spring twice since 2016 and spent hundreds on tickets and merch and concessions at camel back. Prior to Covid I would get tix behind Sox dugout at Seattle every year. Last two years? No mas. Zero. Not even MLB.tv. Forget it.

There isn't REALLY a path to contention in 2024, but I'm guessing that the FO has decided the fanbase isn't ready to hear them utter "rebuild." Because they think we're idiots, it seems like (based on Getz' comments about no one being untouchable + the rumors of them shopping guys like Cease), that they're going to just do it anyway and pretend they aren't -- perhaps believing that it will give them the cover to half-ass it instead of trying again to do it properly. This could be either because Jerry can't handle the wait, or because they've correctly assessed that they aren't in a good position to pivot (with so many of their expensive players currently with no trade value), or both. I predict we're going to see an offseason very similar to what you'd see from the Tigers, in which a lot of money will be spent on short-term veterans that fill holes and be dealt if useful, but won't stop any of the prospects from earning PT along the way. The hope will be that the "core" bounces back to the extent that a run at the division is possible with the stopgaps in place, but they'll settle for merely having a lot of guys to move for more low-upside, close-to-the-majors prospects that can provide similar value for cheap going forward. Was trying to keep the cynicism out but it crept back there toward the end, sorry.

I will probably go to one game in July (aftermarket cheap ticket) just to satisfy my love for baseball. No more merchandise/hats, God no, embarrassed to wear the stuff I already own. I'm a little torn here. For the most part I acknowledge losing him is bad. He was recognized nationally as an up-and-coming broadcasting star. His leaving -- especially at the low point that is offseason 2023-2024, and to a division rival -- sends a terrible message. It is yet another manifestation of FO ineptitude and organizational rot. I also appreciate that he had all the right enemies; I enjoyed watching him piss off a certain type of fan. His replacement will probably be worse (please no whining Len Kasper voice ffs). *BUT* I just never really liked him, as much as I genuinely tried. I found him annoying and corny. So I personally won't miss him that much on the broadcasts, even though I take his departure as bad news.

I'm guessing only Mena and Eder. Veras might last as a DH, and I think Thompson would get rocked, even in planned usage.

I still hate hearing "oh he had a wrist injury of course he struggled that is obvious everyone should have known that was coming" when no one said "This signing is a bad idea because he's coming off a wrist injury" in the offseason when he was signed.

High level athletes recover with the high end treatments available. Do people think NFL players don’t do the same thing? Different sport obviously, but baseball is an everyday grind. Day in and day out. Players getting treatment for the rigours of the sport shouldn’t be looked down upon as pampering. With that said, and we obviously don’t know what was really going on behind the scenes, healthy players taking ‘spa days’ during the season would certainly be a bad look for a 100+ loss team. We don’t actually know what was going on though. Either way, Pedro sucks and should be gone. This is true no matter what the phrase “spa day” actually means.

Honestly why would anyone want this for him or for themselves? Next year is going to be absolutely brutal and wanting Hawk to be forced to watch that because of our nostalgia seems like cruel and unusual punishment The man isnt gonna go full innings without saying a word he is gonna go full games

I still think Carela gets added. He's got good stats as a young starter — some destitute, White Sox-esque team like the Royals or A's might figure they can make him a reliever for a year. I tried to find defensive grades on him last night and he wasn't in Pipeline's Top 30 for the Cubs or Fangraph's Top 52. Like, maybe if they jettison Sheets?

If the Sox have a "stench", Tim Anderson, more than any other player, has created that stench. I would say more than any other two players the Sox have or have had. I am soooo glad he is gone.

If 2024 doesn’t matter then then we will see the worst Sox team in their pathetic history, maybe as bad as the 1962 expansion NY Mets. I don’t think most Sox fans are all in on another rebuild and will probably say enough is enough with this franchise, at 78 years old I’m hanging with them but have lived in Florida for 30 years and it would be no big deal for me to switch my allegiance to the Rays as I watch just about all their games now, if I still lived in Chicago, I don’t know what I would do.

This is my thought, too. Considering the Sox would be highly unlikely to be able to extend Cease, trade him now. The starting pitching FA market is not great, so there will be teams looking to acquire some pitchers via trade. Despite a relatively rough 2023, Cease is a really nice option for teams looking to bolster their rotation.

Our family and some friends usually go to one game and sit in the club level. It's pricy, but it's only one game. We'll probably go to one game again this season, but I really don't see going to more, even if it's just my wife and me or my son and me. My son and I went to a Brewers game last year, and it was a blast. We're thinking of maybe hitting a Cardinals game this year. I'd rather spend the money going to other ballparks for the experience than going to see the Sox, especially if they're going to have a subpar product on the field.

For what its worth and that's not much, according to Baseball Trade Values, Cease's surplus value (44.80) is virtually identical to the combined surplus value of Kjerstad, Ortiz, Bradfield and Povich (44.30). I'm pretty sure no one here would turn down that package for Cease.

I had no problem with Monaco in the limited amount I heard him. Hope they match up on a deal. When McKnight was on the Score, nothing made me turn off the radio faster than hearing his voice. For him to be the pbp announcer for the only team I care about, would be a gut punch.

Interesting with a depleted Sox MLB roster these guys think their careers would be better off in a system that has actual MLB pitchers in front of them.

I really hope the White Sox end up with the 7th pick. Keep them eligible for top 3 in 2025
