  1. The problem with your theory is this....Why would JR pay 11 million for a player instead of like 800k or whatever for Seby? And if your answer is because he's a legitimate MLB player and might actually help the club in some way, Brooks Boyer will call you a bad fan.

  2. This guy can't hit. He will fit in perfectly.

  3. Nobody: Brooks Boyer: Rename the footlong hot dog the Long Dong De Jong! Print money.

  4. My wife and I were at Seby's big game. She asked me about him, I told her he couldn't hit and he hit a home run. Next time up, I mansplained how he got lucky and he hit #2. Third time, I pointed out how lucky he was and he jacked #3. Good luck Seby!

  5. So basically DeJong went to the one team where he'd statistically be considered an offensive upgrade.

  6. Also hit 14x the amount of homers

  7. We all knew this anyway, but man is this team going to be bad next year.

  9. It’s worth noting, though, that Shewmake wasn’t rushed whatsoever. He spent one year per level, and has topped out repeating AAA.

  10. That’s probably why he took the deal. The Sox either have to overpay guys, give them major league deals when no one else will, or be the only team giving them an offer at all to get players to come here. Reputation matters.

  13. Because not many folks want guys rushed to the majors like Vaughn. It's "give the young guys a chance" until they under perform then "blame the team for rushing them."

  18. one of the better things BA does. Not an inspiring list for position players yet, but they always add more. https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/mlb-rule-5-draft-preview-2023/ select snippets position player

  19. Exactly. They dumped a middle of the order bat who played gold glove defense for most of the season just to save a few bucks.

  20. Yeah you need to have an open slot prior to the draft. They could always DFA/trade someone ahead of it to free a spot of course.

  21. Not that I actually watched full games down the stretch this season, but from what I did see Lee made Seby look adequate offensively

  22. Talks about Zavala’s defense being good too. Still strange they didn’t just DFA Grandal at the end of the year since the position is thin but not a big deal I guess.

  25. 100% this was a rebuild always was. JR as usual lies again. Sox brass will brag about this signing as a major step for 24.

  26. I don't think they do. His "through the roof" downloads are probably less than sox attendance at an afternoon game in April. Still, he isn't wrong in this instance

  27. Yeah I might have spoken too soon on that one.??‍♀️

  28. Griffin reclassified and likely has the highest ceiling of any position player in the draft. You sure don't see many 17 yr olds built like this. He has all the tools/athleticism you look for so as always it's gonna come down to how much a team thinks he's gonna hit. If he stays like this the likelihood is pretty good.

  29. This signing will do wonders for the morale of Popeye and Sosa, both of whom are almost certainly better players than DeJong. And cheaper.

  33. i just want someone to get Getz to admit JR didn't know what he was talking about and this is indeed another re-build. I just hope they don't tout this signing. The guy was released twice last year.

  34. Isn't Manoah a bit of a dick? Not that Kopech is some choir boy but I do like Getz bringing in character guys and weeding out the cancers so far.

  35. I mean, I guess. I see a team perennially crying poor that traded a reliever, which it needed, for a post-hype glove-only player with some upside. Then they immediately spent some of their limited resources getting a 30 year old player with the same strengths and weaknesses except no upside. If you’re rebuilding, Shewmake needs reps at the big league level. If you’re contending, neither Shewmake nor Dejong is good enough, and btw you actually still need Bummer. And if, whats most likely actually true, this is a wasted transition year and someone is just going to hold the position warm for Montgomery, there’s no reason at all for that not to be Shewmake, who could at least turn into something tradable or useful. What are the chances that can trade Dejong for something more valuable than Shewmake anyway? In what world do you need both? This just feels like random move-making

  36. s%*#…pretty rough day at work today then log into soxtalk and see this shithole move….what a damn day

  37. There is no reason to burn the clock on Montgomery’s service clock immediately on a pretty much punted season. Let him get ready in AAA. If DeJong stinks, DFA. If DeJong turns it around, trade him for a flier. This is a zero risk 1 year stop gap at SS. Getz is making the right plays so far.

  38. i’d b**** about this but it’s probably going to be the offseason highlight.

  43. It actually got worse with the Dodgers, he just had great BABIP luck that masked it: CWS Lance: 5.19 FIP, 10.8 K/9, 3.20 K/BB, 2.1 HR/9 LAD Lance: 6.16 FIP, 6.6 K/9, 2.14 K/BB, 2.3 HR/9 Whatever they tweaked to try to make him better against lefties just got him crushed by righties instead. It took Lynn 278 ABs vs. RHH to give up 10 HR as a Sox (3.6% rate), and just 129 ABs to do the same as a Dodger (7.7% rate) despite a less HR friendly home park. But he had much better luck on the balls that stayed in the ballpark (his BABIP dropped by nearly 100 points to an unsustainable .232), so he avoided the "big" homers en route to giving up more overall. Hopefully the Cards have a different plan than LA, because his contact profile there wasn't encouraging at all for a guy whose biggest problem is the long ball: GB%: down 6.2% FB%: up 7.6% K%: down 9.7%
