Where? I’ve been on this board before the 2005 season, and in all my time, I’ve seen next to no negative comments toward that team. Now, if discussing how that core group didn’t make the playoffs in 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007 and it’s now evident it was simply a “right place, right time” kind of season, that is definitely discussed here, but I think that’s more factual evidence than negative. 2005 is why every single Sox fan on this site is still here. The hope we get to see another one of those seasons. It was an incredible ride. I will absolutely have those memories for the rest of my life. But in 2023, it’s far from blasphemous to say that team was a “one year wonder” more than some powerhouse the brain trust at 35th and Shields built. It was a very good team. The 2006 team was also very good. But as quick as they arrived, it was over. That’s not really a debate, just what happened

I'd rather keep him and hope he puts a good season together and move him at the deadline than trade him for a bag of heavily used baseballs.

Hard to imagine given JR's constraints that things are going to get much better on the talent front.

"Supposedly" Dan Clark's "reporting" is spurious at best.

They had the best balanced offense I could remember...among the top quarter of the league in home runs, stolen bases, sacrifice bunts, infield hits and sacrifice flies. They could beat you with a blast, a bloop or a bunt.

I'm not opposed to taking Williams but he has really similar problems to Fields. Both hold the ball for a long time to go big game hunting. Both have problems with ball security. Williams even more so than Fields. Williams has a much quicker release which may be the difference between failure and success in the NFL.

Watching the Royals and Tigers bury the Sox in spending (along with taking Benetti away) is pretty disheartening. Then KC at least is (eventually) getting a new stadium, when their previous one is still better than the existing Sox facility despite the appreciable age difference. Once upon a time, with guys like Tanaka and even Wheeler, they'd at least go through the motions of being attached to nearly every big name out there, just like the SF Giants. Now, there's not even any pretenses about being competitive in such a terrible/abysmal division.

This is the biggest question of the day. I don't what the conditions are, a field goal has got to have better odds than a hail Mary with 3 seconds left. A miss does not give Cleveland good field position to score.

I’m sick to my stomach losing this game. Absolutely brutal. Classic bears loss of d balling all game and collapsing late. Offense never able to do enough. Im sure some fan will aggregate some stats to be excited about fields though and blame everyone else.

The Sox have never been good with the PR thing. Someone usually says the wrong thing or offends the fan base in some way. Regardless, I had a booth in the vendors area there some years ago, and vowed I would never return.

Nightengale says the White Sox are sad the Dodgers traded Pepiot to the Rays. Also says Atlanta and Baltimore are favorites for Cease.

December 17, 1914 - Clarence “Pants” Rowland was named White Sox manager. He was an unknown who never managed above Class B and never won anything but would guide the club to a 100-win season, the most ever by the franchise, and the World Series title in 1917. December 17, 1975 - Under new owner Bill Veeck, the Sox went retro with the naming of former manager Paul Richards to become the new field manager replacing Chuck Tanner. Richards was the man who turned around the franchise in 1951. He was one of the smartest baseball men in the game, but it had been 15 years since he was involved in the day-to-day operations of a franchise. Apparently, he didn’t even really want the job, agreeing to do it only as a favor to Veeck. He would last one season. Years later Tanner would reveal that Richards asked him to stay on as his third base coach with the promise of getting the manager’s job again in 1977 but Tanner instead took a three year offer from the A’s. December 17, 2004 - The Sox claimed pitcher Bobby Jenks on waivers from the Angels. Jenks had a reputation as a reckless individual who wanted to party more than play baseball. Somehow the Sox found a way to reach him and he proved a God-send down the stretch in 2005 with six saves, then added four more saves in the run to the World Series title. He then followed it up with 41 saves in 2006, 40 in 2007 and turned into one of the top closers in the game by 2008. He had 173 saves in his White Sox career.

We went crazy when he came in to close out a two hit combined shut out on Opening Day (1:30 mark). Buehrle with a speedy eight innings which helped with the cold (was fortunate to have sun in the upper deck 3rd base side). Lost his grip on the closer roll near Mother’s Day, and released at the trade deadline, but gave the Sox a great 2004 during his “Rookie” Age 35 season. Was definitely a top three year in terms of total Sox games I was able to attend (1985 and 1990 the other two) not counting games I worked as Andy Frain (mostly 1986).

Carlos Perez today in winter ball: 2-4 with 2 HR, 6 RBI, and a BB. Still more walks than Ks, OPS hovering around .800 after slowing down for a bit. He seems to slug more when starting at C maybe? 3 HR in the last 10 days or so, all when starting at C. He also presumably called a decent game today, as his pitchers gave up 0 runs on 1 walk and 6 hits (all singles).

And yet, there are some posters here that s%*# on that team every chance they get. Most of us got to witness one of the greatest teams go wire to wire, go 11-1 in the playoffs and people still come with the hot takes about them all the time. Bunch of closet Cubs fans.

Cease leads MLB in starts since he debuted in the majors. I don't believe he's missed a single turn through the rotation. He gets nitpicked constantly for the 5ish inning starts, but him always taking the ball isn't something that's talked about enough.

Not to be a broken record but I got mad thinking about our Sox today. Even under Veeck who had no $$ the Sox would acquire some guys that actually were worth paying to see and get excited about (Zisk, Gamble, Soderholm, Tom Seaver). Yes he failed a few times (Claudell Washington, Bobby Bonds, Pasqua) but he did something for the fans almost every year. Now with an owner who has some money, Jerry, the Sox are doing nothing. Going into spring training probably with one star, Robert. Adding nobody of note. This is really annoying and sad. We have to hope guys like Vaughn and Eloy and Timmy and Beni have career years so to speak to see any improvement at all. I mean the Sox should make at least 2 significant acquisitions this offseason to spike interest. I can't believe the Sox have a local TV deal. nobody's going to watch these guys play ball.

The funny thing is, I think the best part of his eating was it wasn't so elegant. It's like anyone else who eats something and has to talk. What drew Harry Caray, probably the most popular broadcaster in this city's history, wasn't that he was some elegant guy, but was at least the illusion he was more like the people watching and listening to him. People my age will remember Ray Rayner on WGN in the mornings.What made him so great was his art projects looked like mine would look. His trips to the zoo went like my trips interacting with the animals would go. I guess the White Sox want everyone ignore everything, and think they are just a step above everyone else. Maybe if they would have a reality check, they could solve some of their problems.

Working out at the gym and a new baby due in February. Hanging with family, friends and my wife and son until then.

Hopefully Yamamoto chooses in the next few days so we can finally get a resolution on this.
