I thought we could at least go after the normal reclamation projects and hoo boy these are the guys that were too bad for Charlotte to touch. Yee haw6 points

I’m guessing that guaranteed dollars are the only thing selling these shitty players on coming here.5 points

We keep signing guys to major league deals that shouldn’t receive major league deals5 points

I don’t see how they escape the massive hole they’re in. They won’t have money to spend, don’t have enough quality trade chips and they don’t develop players well enough.5 points

Feels like this could have / should have been an milb deal. Not a huge sum of $ by any means, but hard to see the vision.4 points

Chris Getz, Sox offices are closed! Didn’t you get the memo? Please stop working and report back to your family! That’s enough awful acquisitions for one week!4 points

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a team dumpster dive this much. Just sell the team Jerry4 points

I for one was hoping for a return to the White Sox with him finding his form again.4 points

Seems pricey for what he brings. But I'm happy for Lucas.4 points

That seems excessive for the 7 era he carried in the second half. Cease will get a bounty.4 points

Damn, I hate Boston the most but will be pulling for Lucas to have a great year and then leave.4 points

Cowser/Kjerstad + Ortiz + Povich/Beavers should be the minimum price the Sox are willing to accept. Or the O's can enjoy wasting the cheap control of their core just like the Sox did!4 points

Can you imagine the intense negotiating it took to convince The Chris Flexen to sign with a major league team?3 points

The upside to Chris Flexen is that Jerry won't see another winning team in his lifetime3 points

Ding ding. Hill might bring value as a lefthanded bullpen piece, but other than that, their jobs are to literally pitch innings until minor actual prospects are ready without ruining their development.3 points

Chis Flexen 2021 Age 26 ,179.2 IP , 3.61 ERA , 3.89 FIP, 1.25 WHIP, 6.3 K/9 2022 Age 27, 137.2 IP, 3.73 ERA, 4.49 FIP, 1.329 WHIP, 6.2 K/9 2023 Age 28, 102.1 IP, 6.86 ERA, 6.22 FIP, 1.671 WHIP, 6.5 K/9 Lucas Giolito 2021, Age 26, 178.2 IP, 3.53 ERA, 3.79 FIP, 1.103 WHIP, 10.1 K/9, 11th in CY 2022 Age 27, 161.2 IP, 4.90 ERA, 4.06 FIP , 1.435 WHIP, 9.9 K/9 2023 Age 28, 184.1 IP, 4.88 ERA, 5.27 FIP, 1.313 WHIP, 10 K/9 The last 3 years of Flexen and Giolito are not that dissimilar. Obviously Lucas has a longer track record, much better K /9 and more innings. If Flexen had a combined statistical season in 2023 lets say halfway between his '21 and '22 stats he'd be looking at being a decent part of the Mariners rotation in his 1st year of Arbitration in 2024. 1 bad year for a 4th or 5th starer type after 2 years of solid production apparently made him worth a minor league contract in the eyes of many here. Yet Lucas got 2 years and $38M. Is the difference between them over the last 3 years that big of a difference to warrant the vast differences in how some of our fans view Flexen and at least 1 GM viewed Giolito ? I'm real good with this type of flyer. 29 year old starting pitcher with stats in 2 of his last 3 years that would be very acceptable on the 2024 Sox.3 points

Yep..the run differential is big. The lack of Bautista is big even though I think Kimbrel will be fine but it’s still a step down. The Os were really good in 1 run games last year and had excellent RISP numbers. Neither of those are reasons to believe success comes the next year. Now, the 2024 team will be more talented but it will also be young and inexperienced. Thats my biggest reason for wanting a top starter…I want more margin for error.3 points

I thought Tim Hill was going to be nadir of how bad the dumpster diving would feel this off-season, but Getz dug deep and found another gear.3 points

Well, they better prepare for more of the same this year. Who would actually pay to see the product they will be throwing out on the field?3 points

He's just cleaning up the bottom of the roster with cheap vets. He'll start working his way up soon.3 points

I hate the lack of process that resulted in Getz, but I‘m not putting this on him. This is Renisdorf. He’s a poison to and on the city of Chicago. he’s had multiple opportunities to take this franchise to the next level, and EVERY SINGLE TIME he pulls them down. I’m throwing a goddamn party when that piece of s%*# dies.3 points

As I’ve said before, the team looks worse than any of us could have imagined. Low risk, low reward signings.3 points

I'm glad he got guaranteed money and an opt out. Good for him I am pulling for him to regain his form. He's a great dude. Dude just got ALL his value destroyed after he got traded but is still gonna get about 20m a year. However, I have been told by @Frobby and @Sports Guy that we should just accept Ortiz plus table scraps for Cease.3 points

I used the trade simulator and came up with a Cease deal that the tool says is fair for both us and the Orioles. I’ll fax this over to Elias & Getz and hopefully we can put an end to this stalemate. Always great to find a deal that equally benefits both sides!3 points

To me, the biggest thing with Fields comes down to the "Daniel Jones" question. Is anyone here ready to pay Justin Fields >$40 million a year? Right now, that is the going rate for holding onto a free agent QB, and the franchise tag is currently $36 million for that position and presumably going up. I can't see how I would justify that after the season he's had.3 points

I’d honestly rather give Colas another chance than some 35 year old scrub with no future upside.3 points

Thomas was also the guy who started needling Dick Allen badly when they both were teammates on the Phillies. Some of the comments may have been racial and it led to a fight:3 points

Lulz at the Sox drafting someone with 55 hit and it turning out to be 20. This is the second time this has happened recently in Round 1.3 points

Nick Madrigal does absolutely nothing for the White Sox moving forward and has little, if any, trade value. Hard pass.3 points

He was always in Cooperstown for Hall of Fame induction weekend. He'd set up a table on the sidewalk advertising "Frank Thomas autographs beginning at [time]" (this is a common thing for others players that played on the same team as the players that are getting inducted that weekend). You could tell who was making their first trip out for an Induction weekend as they lined up an hour in advance. He was always a good sport about it and had fun, saying he was the original Frank Thomas and that ours was the *other* Frank Thomas. Anyway, RIP to that guy.2 points

Lots of answers potentially out there, to fix the second base issue the White Sox have. Nick Madrigal isn't one of those answers.2 points

Generally, unless the post is obviously so ridiculous and I give it a laugh, if I'm giving any emoji, I'm digging the post because I'm old and don't want to learn new s%*#. Emojis weren't around in the 80s when players used to bunt, and you could put a 1B in the OF and intentionally walk guys with 1 and 2 counts, and people wouldn't run to their computers or phones to complain brother.2 points

My take on how I interpret, but not saying this is universal. I believe the first four are straight forward for most, and the final three can be open for interpretation. Perhaps a pinned explanation post for how these are meant to be taken would help everyone be on the same page. Thank you Thank you in general, perhaps for a complement or other message directed toward you / response to your quote. I also use as a "Thank You" concurrence agreeing with the view point. Laughing Meant to reward a funny post. Some may use sarcastically, but I rarely if never used it in this manner. Love Complete acceptance / appreciation / agreement / love of a post. Fire Signifying the post or poster is on fire - used to praise. Also denotes a hot take. Hawk Signifying Sox to the nth degree. Hawk would take a bullet for the Sox. Your emoji nods your head in respect for this post. Also see additional uses such as indicating the post is an example of Hawk's viewpoint regarding the game of baseball (TWTW, Baseball Card Stats, Bitching at Umpires) and also for a post with shade thrown at his at times nemesis Steve Stone. I stretch the boundaries concurring with a meatball take from a Sox perspective against an A. L. Central opponent, or the Yankees, hated by all of mankind. Tony This emoji can be the most critical of a post or thought. Indicates a post containing a 19th or 20th century mindset about baseball or the world we live in. A Tony emoji indicates you may have posted something wrong and perhaps you should consider editing, deleting, and changing your way of thought. However, I have also used it to concur with posts critical of Tony - Damn straight that was a Tony thing that just happened. Paperbag To be this could be a dual use, but I am not sure if there was prior use here for better context. I see at as noting embarrassment as a fellow Sox fan for the latest dumb thing the Sox did (performance, transaction, statement, etc) called out in the post.2 points

Wow, back when posters actually had faith and hope that Jerry would approve Hahn signing a big time free agent. Cringey posts in there, considering hindsight.2 points
