  1. So basically anything you disagree with is wrong? Shouldn’t you be back on your board saying how this board is full of idiots?

  2. I haven't been this excited since they signed Chris Flexen.

  4. Thankfully, with pitchers such as Chris Flexen and Tim Hill, we just have to worry about giving up lots of earned runs.

  5. I just think Brian Cashman will make a deal. I’m not sure if Mike Elias will.

  6. This may be the worst thread in the history of Soxtalk. Saying something.

  8. What a horrible take. You're dead wrong on this.

  9. This thread really devolved into worrying that an abuser is being silenced? Really? What The f*** Also, Freedom of Speech is a protection from the government silencing individuals, not a protection from the consequences of one’s own actions. Nor from society or an industry shunning an abuser. Visquel deserves to be buried in obscurity, never to work in baseball again. If you’re concerned that an abuser is being silenced or censored, that says way more about you than it is any sort of indictment of society. If that is you, maybe stop worrying about a former baseball player failing from grace and get to work on yourself. For fucks sake. /rant

  10. Nothing wrong with this. At least Charlotte will have some SP this year after having basically none for multiple seasons.

  11. Yep, sure worked well when the O's got swept in the playoffs and gave up 21 runs in 3 games.

  12. Please don't get us started.

  13. That would be part of the negotiations. This discussion will end in one of 2 ways. 1. The trade happens with Baltimore and their fans will say they gave up too much and the Sox fans will say they didn't get enough. 2. The trade happens with another team and the Baltimore fans will say they were glad they didn't trade for him because it was too much and the Sox fans will say Getz screwed up because he didn't get enough.

  14. I'm just so pleased that after all the years this forum has been active we have the arbiter of sports discussion finally onboard. He's really setting off to show his knowledge of baseball and to correct every little nuance that he deems wrong. It's a privilege really.

  15. My mom took me to TJ Maxx before I started high school - Catholic school so I needed dress shirts, pants and ties. I’d never been there, but it felt like a step up to me. We did not shop at top end stores when I was a kid, and the majority of my clothes were hand me downs. I picked up a bunch of stuff and felt good about it. Made the mistake of not trying everything on. First day of school, I’m buttoning up my shirt, and the buttons don’t line up. Shirt is crooked. I go to my second choice - same thing. This is how being a Sox fan feels. Perpetually disappointed by bargain basement deals.

  16. No, they got Soto, who can be an MVP in that park. Soto wasn’t available last deadline.

  17. Please be smarter than the other dope who couldn't understand why it's good for the Sox to have the Yankees involved in trade discussions.

  18. The Sox have added a league leading 11 players to their 40 man roster this off-season along with agreeing to notable minor league deals Brett Phillips and Chad Kuhl. Time to rank these additions by hype level…here are mine! The Top 10: Erick Fedde, RHP Mike Soroka, RHP Jared Shuster, LHP Nicky Lopez, IF Max Stassi, CA Shane Drohan, LHP Martin Maldonado, CA Braden Shewmake, IF Paul DeJong, IF Chris Flexin, RHP Just Missed: Chad Kuhl, RHP Tim Hill, LHP Brett Phillips, OF Chuckle Robinson, CA Mark Payton, OF

  19. Feinsand mentioned the Angels & Giants are potential landing points for Snell…still think he goes out west and the Yankees are being used as a boogeyman to drive up the price.

  20. This is just plain dumb and quite frankly arrogant

  21. I just hope all of the Orioles fans stick around for when the harsh reality hits that the AL East isn’t going to have a 2 straight down years and they find themselves in 3rd place trying to hang on to a WC spot. And yes, all of us White Sox fans are well aware of how terrible the franchise is…but at least we are dealing in reality.

  22. With all due respect please stop this nonsense. And as far as broadcast revenue, that money is already in the bank regardless of if one fan watches or listens all year from both local and national deals.

  23. You know it's a crappy off season when the signing of Brett Phillips garners a four page thread.

  24. They have said player in Yoelqui Cespedes, but he lacks leadership and Royals experience unfortunately

  25. Phillips, 29, batted .175/.268/.333 with a whopping 36 strikeouts in 71 plate appearances for the Angels in 2023. He spent most of 2023 at Triple-A Salt Lake. Phillips has a connection to Sox manager Pedro Grifol, having played for the Royals in 2018 and ‘19 while Grifol was a coach in Kansas City. More garbage Royals flotsam and jetsam

  26. No question..which is why I love how Elias has prioritized positional talent. It’s also why the thought that Getz is prioritizing pitching is such a head scratcher to me.

  27. Great, they'll lose 5-2 instead of 6-3.

  28. I think the ultimate best move right now for the White Sox would be to hire Mark Teahen as a coach somewhere in the organization

  29. Can he just be the new announcer?

  30. I'm fine with it. I'd rather play Colas though. The guy is a 4th OF if they don't acquire an MLB ready OF in a Cease deal.

  31. Prime of your life, at the absolute top of your game, an entire country is amazed at your abilities as a pro athlete, and you throw it all away for a girl who is 14. This will never make sense hopefully in like 3-4 years Bob Nightengale can get Wanders side of the story, odds are whatever wander did doesn’t deserve punishment

  32. this is the proposal all the yankee fans are saying is an overpay everyone forgets to add in the ~$35M you're saving by not having to pay cease $30M a year
    3 points
  33. It sounds like the Yankees are in pretty aggressively from some people I’ve talked to today. No idea on Boston. I wouldn’t be surprised if it ended up being New York. Brian Cashman has the balls to actually make a deal which could help.

  35. At least the Sox will make teams earn those runs. Those many many many runs.

  36. I felt like once the Sox got hosed in the lottery, it might have changed their stance on 2024 roster construction. If you can't do better than the 10th pick, and you're in a god awful division, you may as well try to scrap together a passable club on short term deals. Since the winter meetings, the Sox look closer to a team that is tanking (for no benefit) than a team that is attempting to at least stay afloat in the ALC. Its so gross.

  37. Everyone should start looking here to build Cease trade packages.
    2 points
  38. This team is going to suck, especially when you spell out all of the 26th men like that. But I'd rather be fun-bad than boring-bad, so I like this move. People getting upset about this, do you want to see us lose 100 games with Gavin Sheets falling over his own get in RF? Or would you rather see us lose 100 games with someone who can catch the ball and have a fun personality worth watching? Because we're losing 100 games - it's just a matter of whether you want to be miserable all season or not.

  39. same thoughts here. since it's a minor league deal I can stomach it...but it also is ridiculous that they don't have any no bat, toolsy guys in their own system already for league minimum.

  41. The good thing about free speech is Bob Nightengale is allowed to present a clearly unneeded, one-sided story from Omar’s corrupt perspective while at the same time we can call out Bob for being morally bankrupt for publishing in the first place.

  42. Obviously, I like Jones. I do think a deal that board would be horrified by that I would be excited by would be Hampton, Arias, Lombard and like Clayton Beeter. Usually turned off by the yanks prospects but after diving in…I admit they are interesting and good.

  44. Why would we take guys the Yankees soured on? It sounds Ike Pereira has a LF only profile and incredibly questionable hit tool. How does that make any sense for us?
    2 points
  45. Fangraphs hates Pereira. I too would be pissed with a right handed 30 hit OFer. They have to get Jones or Dominguez as the top piece and then two pitchers. I'm not sure they can get all that but that proposal noted above was a very good one. If they can get Vivas as a 4th piece that would be awesome.

  46. Oh don’t you worry about that

  47. I don’t think it’s a slippery slope to silence someone credibly accused of sexual assault by a disabled minor, domestic abuse by his ex, and blackballed by the very league that made him famous. in fact I think that’s totally fine. I don’t need to know about Omar Vizquel for the rest of my life actually
