Stop trying to speak for “Sox fans.” Quite literally every other Sox fan in this thread is telling you you’re wrong so hey maybe you’re fuckin wrong.4 points

Southsiders simply aren’t tough enough to endure public transportation like those badass Cubs fans!3 points

Didn't realize Ozzie was managing one of the teams and led them to their regular season championship: https://www.mlb.com/news/2024-caribbean-series-teams-and-preview "Guillén also joined Earl Weaver, Tommy Lasorda and Terry Francona as managers who have captured winter league titles and at least one World Series championship."2 points

I'm a getting a little concerned he didn't play it correctly when its all said and done. I am very nervous about keeping Cease into the season.2 points

Why would we want Foscue? RH 2B that's a butcher that can only hit for avg.....what am I missing here? If they are gonna go SP plus one positional piece, it would be a disaster of biblical proportions for Getz to accept a RH hitter that is also a butcher as the position piece. If Getz is going to suddenly be OK with butchers, at least get a LHS. I mean if that's the case, they should have gotten Busch plus one of the LAD pitching prospects.2 points

The Rangers aren't someone we have talked about a lot, but boy could they put together a top notch deal if they wanted to.2 points

It sounded like a great idea, but maybe the team sucking had something to do with it. I acutally used to work in the building the train station is attached to and took it to opening day once. It was great.2 points

Yeah, and that stop would offer an easy in and out to the entirety of the South and far South suburbs.2 points

I would call living in the neighborhood for 12 years a large enough sample size. I live here every single day, half a mile from the ballpark. How many games do you actually commute to? You're dead fucking wrong, have been repeatedly proven wrong, yet continue to dig a deeper hole. Good luck there champ, but with every single post you prove that you have less of a grasp of Chicago White Sox fan behavior than you've repeatedly stated in your many many inaccurate statements.2 points

Lots of talk they might be moving the Orioles to Raleigh or Nashville unless they can make commitments to serious improvements with the Baltimore facilities.. MLBRaleigh.com https://theathletic.com/5239665/2024/01/30/orioles-sale-angelos-family/?source=user_shared_article “There’s no doubt that I feel I’m one of the few people in private equity that doesn’t own a sports team. All my friends bought sports teams and I said, ‘Look, your investors are not going to take you seriously by you diverting your attention to these sports teams.’ But I was wrong.” Rubenstein, who is from Baltimore, said, “It’s very difficult to buy a sports team and lose money. Some people have done it, but it’s very rare. In baseball and basketball, you make your money when you sell the team. In the NFL, you make your money all the time because it’s so profitable.” Rubenstein predicted in the future, “you’re going to see baseball teams, basketball teams and others combine in one company and ultimately, those companies will go public.” He added investing in an MLB franchise is “not the highest profitability thing I hope to be doing in my investment career, but I do think that it’s not something I’m doing to lose money, if I do it.” CNBC's Becky Quick noted Rubenstein's answer on buying the O's or Nats was "not a no, but not a yes" (“Squawk Box,” CNBC, 9/1). This conversation took place at minute 34:00 in the podcast linked here.2 points

Weird. At least DirtySox was nice enough to copy and paste the Sox write ups. Let me know any others and I can do the same. I edited the initial “no paywall” post1 point

WTF seriously? Tampa Bay spent $73 million last year. Baltimore $60 million. For the Orioles this may rise to $81 million in 2024. 2024 Projected Red Sox payroll potentially $200 million (https://www.pressherald.com/2024/01/20/red-sox-brass-expects-lower-payroll-in-2024/). But a day may come when Boston has the 4th highest payroll in the division? When exactly will this day be?1 point

The biggest benefit of this offseason is learning all the MLB minor league systems about as well or even better than KW or Haber…because of all the sharing of data points and diverse perspectives percolating.1 point

I am sure Carter and Langford are off limits, but the Wolcott kid, as well as Leiter and Rocker are all pieces that could build a deal together with.1 point

If the Rangers are involved you can assume the players the Sox would be targeting would be INF Justin Foscue and SP Brock Porter.1 point

I think you are misreading this. My take is the statement reads that the entire league (all teams) would be a single publicly traded entity, similar to NASCAR owned by the France family. 30 owners would sell their shares (or retain a minority stake) in a single MLB entity. There would be a CEO of the organization, not one boob representing thirty boobs. MLB would have to bribe Congress once again to avoid any change to their preferred anti-trust status. They function in many ways as a single entity when it benefits owners in general, such as their revenue sharing scheme which rewards not paying players over fielding a competitive product for the 16 eligible teams.1 point

I'm sure those that had to make that decision whether to leave in the 7th inning for that 10 pm BNSF line to the western suburbs would rather be a 3 minute taxi away than down 35th and shields. THis land giveth and taketh away. Some will benefit, some will lose. But it will be fun to go to.1 point

There are quite a few parking garages between Congress and Roosevelt for sure, plus a decent amount of just open land parking lots. Most of them aren't very dense (as in one floor or two floors, or just basic ground uncovered parking on the ground), and could easily be developed into higher density parking areas to add thousands of spots pretty easily within walking distance.1 point

Especially if they lose out on Montgomery.. Heyman is on at 2pm CST on that Bleacher Report app, fully expecting him to say that Dylan Cease may or may not be traded1 point

For a good long while the Cubs were owned by the publicly traded Tribune Co. I can specifically recall how one of their earnings reports in 2004 wound up having to specifically cite the buyout of Sammy Sosa's contract as an expense affecting their bottom line. Sometimes the motivations get a bit different, there's less willingness to go into debt for any reason for a team like that for example, income might be required to stay in the black. I don't think though that it affected the way the GM was thought of - the GM is basically still in charge of the baseball side. There's little reason for example to believe that the Mets new president is directly involved in their efforts to try to secure a casino associated with Citi field for Cohen, it might affect the budget he has to work with but nothing else.1 point

Captive audience. People who go to spring training, go to spring training. Nobody's going to not schedule a February Arizona Sox/golf trip because tix are $10 more. And once they're there, the game is the whole purpose of the trip.1 point

I’d be surprised. He can’t field anymore, and the Sox have DH locked up. Plus I don’t think the Sox have that much money to sign him or even beat other teams interested in him.1 point

This is the thinking that is what leads people to writing off Coby White, Lauri, Ayo and Wendell Carter early in their careers. You could even argue Jimmy was in that group, but he had a lot more leeway as a roleplayer until he blew up in year four. If you're calling a player a bust after one partial season of minor league ball in their draft year, you shouldn't bother following prospects because you just want instant gratification.1 point
-
Gonzalez hasn't even played an entire season of minor league ball, so calling him a bust this early would be premature and ridiculous. You can say it was a bad pick because of his profile - slow running shortstop who wasn't hitting for a lot of power in his cup of coffee post draft (which, as James has pointed out, is a grain of salt) and because you had toolsy players like Arjun Nimmala and Enrique Bradfield on the board on the time. But if he comes out the gate roaring to start 2024, suddenly all bust labels are going to start being shed. It's like saying Jake Burger was a bad pick at the time given his profile. You could have definitely said a bust after a few years. But now the bust moniker is silly.1 point

Las Vegas is my home away from home, visiting 62 times since 1991, typically 2-3 weeks a year (have family there, did gambling trips when I was young). Really embraced the Vegas Golden Knights who did everything the right way, and converted the 3-4 thousand max fans of their minor league team (the Wranglers) into I’d say Top 6 NHL US market in terms of knowledge and fan base interest. City is NFL crazy because gambling, so they would embrace any team even Mark Davis’ now pathetic organization. When it comes to this team and this owner, not sure if this will be a good long term move or fit. Fischer had much better offers on the table he passed on then this. The site across I 15 would have given him the real estate empire he was angling for, and this site gives him nothing, barely enough room to fit the stadium. They need to tear down the second oldest casino on the strip to accommodate. Local fans really try to avoid going to the strip, a traffic nightmare, and this is in the heart of it. The Raiders stadium is far enough south to accommodate 215 traffic, the hockey stadium on the strip though with 1/3 less capacity and enough infrastructure to accommodate fans. The A’s will have none of it, will be playing in a dome for nearly all of the season, will have the lowest TV market and will struggle to sell seats after a possible initial honeymoon phase. Fischer took the worst possible alternative because he overplayed his hand. John Fischer will join the ranks of Jeff Loria, Art Modell and Robert Irsay in terms of being the most hated and despicable owners in modern American sports history.1 point
