  1. There is another old saying: There is a sucker born every minute.

  2. This isn't anything to write home about but last year's White Sox team is fascinating in only that they shouldn't have really been anywhere near that record, numbers wise. It was that big losing streak after the All Star break that gave us the record. Grifol truly was the worst manager this franchise has ever had. Tbh, I think this White Sox team can probably get close to 60 games this year. I know the record is similar but we are starting to win series now. 5-6 in May is a decent start. If they can sort of trod a long be consistently average for the rest of the year, it's possible. (THESE AREN'T RINGING ENDORSEMENTS)

  3. Amaya's OPS is .241; his career OPS is .341. Exactly who is over his head? We have Taylor, a great defender with a .264 OBP. They had to make room for the great Josh Rojas. Oooh Tauchman's coming back soon- need to make room! We aren't getting anything of value for these guys in July. None will be back next year. We have more interesting, higher potential, if not better players in Charlotte. What is the point of all of this?

  4. Based on what he did in Phoenix, there should be no doubt that he will do what he wants to get the players he believes in most. We can see everything he spent and traded for there. Dude is not scared to be the top bidder for top talent, unlike another private equity real estate mogul in Chicago. Will he be right is a totally different question.

  6. Well thankfully trades are only based on the fWAR of players for like 40 games and nothing else.

  7. It's a rebuild after the old rebuild died and Reinsdorf estate planning for his death. I've given you the benefit of the doubt that you actually know this. But I guess I'm wrong . You actually think Getz matters and think things could magically change to IDK what if only JR fired Getz and was replaced by IDK who . You always leave that part out. Oh wait you said a monkey. Your X must be so popular .

  8. POTENTIAL POTENTIAL POTENTIAL...but do we really want to put that kind of pressure on the kid? Colson's already folded mentally, so let's hope this Montgomery can handle all the hype and expectations, he's already up to #38 at MLB Pipeline and continuing to rise. From all accounts, he seems like a pretty even-keeled young adult who's quite grounded for his early 20's.

  10. It's a bit concerning that Taylor, Schultz and Smith all can't throw strikes now. Davis Martin will have to buy a ticket to the next white sox playoff game.

  13. OK, that's fine. Then why the hell did we claim him? We sure didn't learn enough in one freaking game to make this decision either way. Either he was worth claiming, and we should work with him, or we should have never claimed him because he isn't good enough,

  14. Ok I think this is the one I accept. My mistake on having to pay the Tigers + it was a trade where they paid cash. Ok how does this sound then ? Maybe the Sox talked to the Tigers and found out they don't want to pay $50K to get him back but the Sox don't want to keep him on the 26 so they put him back on waivers, hope he goes unclaimed and they can then keep him in AAA ? Or if he does get claimed they don't really care ? Small sample size but 2 for 8 with 4 walks but 6K in Charlotte on his rehab. So every time he made an out it was a K.

  15. Nothing, zero. Just more bad Getz FA acquisitions. May as well have kept Workman around. Like many have noted year after year, Sox GM’s love to spend $5 million or under on a variety of crap that adds up to millions of wasted dollars. They still think quantity is greater than quality.

  18. In fairness Bud Black got 7+ years lol. The last three seasons produced 68, 59, and 61 wins. So he definitely got a long leash

  21. It really bummed me out reading this news. So, so tragic. I honestly assumed he was an older guy based on how mature he came across and because he was one of the OGs that helped run the show here. I lurked here for a while before this account (let's be real, probably had an account or two that got banned, but I really don't remember). He was always such a quality poster as long as I can remember. He was only 2-3 years older than me, but damn was he wise and mature beyond his years. He was always kind to me despite whatever shenanigans of mine the mods had to deal with. Interesting the type of relationship/bond you can develop with people just by reading their posts and seeing their avatar frequently on an Internet forum, whether you conversed with them often or not. I was never particularly close with him, but it still hits home after sharing a message board with him for years and years. It's especially awful when somebody dies this young and in such a senseless manner. I wish everybody would take seriously the responsibility of driving a motor vehicle. RIP to one of the good ones. Heads clearly played a major part in making this place one of the best sports forums on the internet.

  22. Not sure when they happened but the two crazy long losing streaks last year did them in and skews comparative records. I think this team will progress throughout the year and just bad. The fact that both teams can be historically bad in back to back years shows there is something off with baseball.

  23. Despite Thaiss playing well ,unless a trade return for Lee returns more than you'd expect, Thaiss should be the one to get traded since he's only signed for 1 year and Lee is cheap and under control until 2030. He also hits for power, runs well and has a quick release and a good arm. Plus he got off to a nice start this year. He has also played LF and 1st base. It's not really surprising a smart team would be interested in him. He has good tools and power is always in demand. Only having one option left complicates things as does Teel being the expected other half of the future catching tandem. The Sox might use that option if Lee remains in Charlotte after his rehab stint is over . He turns 27 July 25th. The Sox also have a decision to make fairly soon on Gage Workman. They haven't had him long after they got him from the Cubs for cash as a Rule 5 guy. It seemed like a bit of a stretch but the Sox must have liked his very good Spring Training with the Cubs , his LH power bat, strike zone awareness and a good fielding reputation. However , he had never played above AA until this rehab stint and his fielding rep took a hit in his MLB time with the Cubs and his 1 game with the Sox at 3rd base. He is reputed to have a very good arm. They could pay the Tigers to take him back but that would seem odd to have paid to have him for such a short period of time. If Vargas is put on the IL Workman will definitely get another shot soon . We should get more clarification if Vargas can't play Tuesday or Wednesday against the Reds. The infield seems overcrowded as the MLB level now with Rojas back. Vargas has a calf "issue" . The OF has been in disarray all season . Tauchman has had multiple hamstring issues. He's now on his rehab assignment at Charlotte and should be back next week. Slater may never be back with his meniscus tear. Benintendi is eligible to come back May 15th from his 2nd time on the IL this season from his left calf strain. Not sure if he'll have any rehab time in Charlotte The 1st injury was his left adductor. We may also see the Sox debut of relief pitcher Yoendrys Gomez who the Sox claimed from the Dodgers. He was only on the Dodgers for 2 weeks and 3 appearances . In 4.1 innings he gave up 7 runs on 10 hits.

  24. Heard news on the radio driving and first thing that popped into my head was "boy it sure took the Sox a long time to fire Grifol, even the Rockies don't have that patience".

  25. Honestly, if they somehow don't break the record the Sox set last year now (I think they will), it goes to show that the Sox should have pulled the plug on Grifol so much sooner last year.

  32. It's nice to see a veteran addition (Thaiss) finally work out for the Sox. He's been great defensively and not terrible at the plate. Lee might be the odd man out when he returns.

  33. Bullpen was stellar today only giving up 1 run in 5 innings. Vasil pitched 3 and gave up the 1 run but got the win in relief of Burke to pitch the 5th, 6th and 7th inning. Gilbert and Booser pitched perfectly in the 8th and 9th and picked up a hold and a save. The BP also only issued 1 walk in those 5 innings after Burke issued 5 in 4 innings. Thaiss gunned down 3 runners , 2 stealing 2nd and picked off a runner at 3rd who strayed too far down the line on another attempted steal of 2nd with men on 1st and 3rd with 2 out ending a Marlins threat in the 4th. Meidroth went 2 for 4 with a single and double and got a nice force out at 3rd on a GB in the hole. Props to Rojas for managing to find the base while on the move and catching the throw while moving backwards. Palacios was on base 3 times going 1 for 2 with 2 walks. Robert and Vargas were rested for the 2nd day in a row with various ouchies.

  34. it's disgusting...but to me the most disgusting team is the pirates also get free draft picks and more intl money while the sox choose to operate as a dirt poor team while getting docked for being a high revenue team. The only actors being punished by anti-tanking rules, competitive balance rules, etc...are truly white sox fans. We are the worst team in history and couldn't even get the benefit of a first overall pick.

  38. Before this year, Elko rocked a 7.0 BB% in the minors. I would tend to lean that the 11.6% we are seeing this year, is likely more of an outlier than some drastic change. He's never really been known as a patient hitter.

  40. Wow - I don't make it on here enough/as much these days. Like to pier in here and there to still see the pulse of things. Very sad to hear this. Alex was such a kind dude, and as others referenced, a bunch of us transformed from teens to 'adults' in the real world with this and some late night AIM being our constant water cooler or check-in. Always thought of Alex when I see an ISU game on over the years. Will still think of him when I see them. Rest in peace, good sir.

  43. This hit a lot harder than I expected. Im 40 years old, but have known a lot of people on this board since I was 18 years old and even though I have never met any of them in person I still feel like I know exactly who they are and have a real relationship with them in my life. Some of it has spilled over into other forms of online connection, text, etc. but when you stop and think about it, that is a long time to have someone in your life in some way and its just fucking awful to hear this. Very tough seeing this today.
