I think you’re going to overboard eithe the talent offer. I could see a Gavin Sheets. Jake Burger and maybe Davis Martin4 points

Montgomery and Vera….other teams would easily top that. Reynolds is good but not great enough IMO to use every asset.4 points
-
I would prefer they did not pour the limited resources they have into the catching position.4 points

Exactly. If you notice this about Reynolds from the story: "....having played just 13 games with Triple-A Indianapolis. During a breakout rookie year in 2019, Reynolds hit .314 with an .880 OPS across 134 games, with 37 doubles, four triples, 16 home runs and 68 RBIs,.." Colas has had 7 games in AAA and is perfectly capable of having the same type of year as Reynolds did his rookie year. Pay way more and get less years when you may just get Reynolds type production from Colas through his pre arb . Put some faith in the guy who has shown in just one season in the minors he has All-Star talent all while adjusting to the states and missing his family. Colas wanted to be a White Sox so such he waited longer so the Sox could sign him.3 points

I would say the White Sox do have the pieces to get this guy, but with how barren their organization is it makes little sense to give up that many pieces.3 points

I don’t think the Sox have the prospects to get a trade like this done. 20 teams could match or do better easy.3 points

Damn Reading posts here and Twitter you would think Reynolds is the next coming of Mike trout. Yes, we need to give up Vaughn, gio, and Montgomery... Fucking dumbasses .......any and all of you who believe that 🤡2 points

IMHO, a top level prospect deal for Reynolds requires more years of control. And people are overpaying with their multi-player offers.2 points

Can we build a package around Leury? I heard he’s quite the every day player.2 points

I'm always optimistic this time of the year. Everyone is thinking the Sox are terrible, but what if they just had a really bad year? It wouldn't be the first time an entire Sox team got cold together. Why can't Moncada, Eloy, Robert, Anderson, and Grandad all bounce back and reach their potential? It's Happening! My cpu won't stop autocorrecting Grandal for Grandad LOL2 points

1 6 WAR season that then regressed to his mean of 3 isn't worth all these crazy packages I'm seeing, 3 years of control or not.2 points

There was no fourth player in the Eaton trade. It was Gio, Lopey and Dunning.2 points

Come on man. This team is projected to be below .500 for the season by ZiPS, lost Abreu and Cueto, was under .500 last July, and has a tougher schedule this year. There is certainly a chance of that, a solid one.2 points

@maloney.adam - Is Bruce really stealing your made up rumors?2 points
-
They don't have the prospects and Jerry wouldn't extend him anyway. He's going somewhere else. This is a rebuild, but it won't be obvious until mid-season.2 points
-
Yeah we're not going to be able to do this thanks to the Sox mediocre prospect pool. Thanks Rick!2 points
-
Yeah so many teams would be interested to the point where idk if the Sox can beat out offers for him. Not to the point where it’s worth it anyway.2 points

Fully agree. This DeGrom deal has a chance to be epically bad, just jealous the Rangers ownership group is willing to spend some big dollars.2 points
-
Yeah. It’s not really a great hitting position as is. Better off seeing if the off-season was good for him and rolling with Seby/Perez/depth signing. You can cut Grandal if he still looks toast.2 points
-
The Rangers desperately needed a top of the rotation starter and they got the best one available. They are taking a chance and they are trying to win. Good for them.2 points

The rangers have spent nearly 750 million on 4 players that aren't even close to top 25 players in the league (maybe not top 50) Great plan...this totally won't blow up in their faces...2 points

What am I missing with Reynolds? There’s not a chance in hell I’m giving up Vaughn and Montgomery for him.1 point

The game has radically changed since then and blue chip prospects are more valuable than ever. The Adam Eaton deal is a poor comp for a Reynolds trade. Regardless, two top 75 prospects is not worth the same as Montgomery & Vaughn. Teams aren’t stupid. Andrew was a top 20 prospect who was rushed like crazy and played out of position by a desperately dumb organization. This same kid had a 125 wRC+ through August of last year despite the worst hitting coach in baseball playing up his worst tendencies and before his legs wore out from playing the OF. Every intelligent organization would die to acquire him and watch him develop into a 140 wRC+ hitter. He’s worth considerably more than you think he is despite only four years of control. And conveniently you use the MLB.com rankings for Montgomery and not Baseball America’s, who have him as the #35 overall prospect. The difference between the #35 prospect and a guy in the 60’s or 70’s is massive. And guys like Montgomery, especially of the positional variety, don’t get moved very often in this day and age. He is the type of centerpiece prospect that would get the Pirates’ attention and one very clubs would be willing to match. Honestly, I’m doubtful the Sox would even consider moving him. I truly believe something like Montgomery, Ramos, & Vera would be incredibly tempting to the Pirates and I’m not sure many teams would actually want to pay a steeper price than that.1 point

Those ZiPS projections are insanely conservative for our younger position players though. I think with even just reasonable additions it’s unlikely we finish below .500 next year.1 point
-
I'm assuming that it would've made sense to trade Vaughn before we let Abreu walk. Now we can't.1 point

Geez, it was just a joke. Keep it in your pants man.1 point

Corey Seager or Semien would make an enormous difference on this team. The Sox haven't had a 2nd basemen with a higher fWAR than Semien last year since 1965. Signing good players is extremely expensive but that doesn't make it a bad idea.1 point

Also worth remembering that Giolito is fully eligible for a QO and a returning draft pick if the White Sox hold onto him for another year, so whatever they get back better be substantially more valuable than that pick.1 point

100%. Just fill C & 2B from within. Please spend these trade resources on an OF and always pitching.1 point

Duncan wasn’t part of our analytics function. Regardless, I don’t think the problem is our analytics staff is bad at their job, but rather are too small and likely being under-utilized in our various decision-making processes.1 point

How Boston continues to hold on to his job is beyond me. Maybe he is JR's latest clubhouse "spy?"1 point
