Bunting greatly decreases the expected number of runs for the inning, BUT bunting a runner from 2nd to 3rd with 0 outs greatly increases your chances of scoring one run in the inning, so a tie game in the bottom of 9th or extras is an exception to the rule.

I've met JR twice and I've said for years that he wants to win. But... He has ALWAYS wanted to win HIS WAY...with his ideas about salary structure, his ideas about dealing with certain agents (or not dealing with them), his ideas on the MLBPA, his ideas on paying for "potential" (involving the draft and the minor league system), his ideas about dealing with the media/fan base (which involves the always important public relations battle) and his ideas about "loyalty" just to name a few areas. History shows in over 40+ years of ownership his way of wanting to win hasn't been very successful especially since the start of the 2007 season with only five winning years.

If Hahn survives this off-season, then there is no hope for the franchise until Jerry dies. Not trying to be grim here, but no one can look at Rick’s track record and the epic failures of this season and not realize he is not capable of being an even average GM. The proof is in what we’re paying per win, how overmatched our new manager is, and poor our farm system is. At this point in his tenure, I can’t name one single strength of his. Even the “extensions” have come to pass. Rick Hahn is a straight up clown and his level of incompetence almost makes the crazy part of me wonder if he’s a chaos agent trying to help the Cubs win Chicago because he is literally that bad at his job. f***, at this point Chris Get sounds like an upgrade and he oversees a bottom five farm system. To say this franchise has hit rock bottom under Rick Hahn is an understatement. You know it’s bad when you miss the “mired in mediocrity” days. Unfortunately since then Rick has rebuilt this team in his own image and that is plain shitty. May the baseball gods please take mercy our poor souls and rid the franchise of the abomination that is Richard Hahn.

I'm 100% convinced that firing Hahn will change absolutely nothing. This franchise is stuck in utter purgatory until we get an owner who has a vision of putting together a competitive franchise. Jerry has ZERO initiative to change anything. He is making money, he has his rings. We saw the Bulls replace GarPax with Eversley and AK, and it changed basically nothing. It's no different with Jerry's other money child, because he will just repeat what got him here. He'll hire somebody he knows into the role, hold onto them for WAY too long, and do f*** all to address how utterly far behind this franchise is in terms of farm development and analytical reliance. He doesn't care about winning.

We only know so much, but seemingly, we can piece together a few things. - Coming off the World Series in 2005, the Sox had the 4th highest payroll in 2006, behind the Yanks, Red Sox and Angels - In 2022, the Sox came in with the 7th highest payroll, at 203,205,326..according to Spotrac. The point is, Jerry will spend in the upper echelon when the team is in a good spot and there is buzz around the team. Now, we also know what he won't do. He seemingly won't go over 5 years with a pitcher, and signing a 300+ million dollar player seems unlikely. We also don't know what he is comfortable with/willing to spend on internals like scouting and analytics, but I tend to believe he would mostly leave that to the President/GM of Baseball, assigning them an overall budget and determining where that money needs to go. Those are absolutely hurdles that any GM would need to leap, but there are plenty of "successful" GM's that have those same limitations placed on them every year, often times much worse. The Twins, Indians, Rays, Brewers, etc all have way harsher payroll restrictions, yet have been wildly more successful than the Sox over the last decade+ My point is building a successful, consistent and good baseball team is possible under the "limitations" Jerry sets. Certainly harder than someone like the Dodgers, Mets, Red Sox, Yankees...but I believe it absolutely could be done. Rick is very bad at his job, and Jerry continues to let blind loyalty destroy his legacy. Where we sit today, I no doubt hold Jerry/Kenny/Rick all responsible, where the blame goes doesn't really matter at this point because we suffer no matter what. I'm just saying I believe from a pure baseball standpoint, Rick has hurt this team more than anyone else.

It's simple. Reinsdorf's job as an owner is to hire the right people, give them the resources to succeed, and give them the authority to make decisions on how to succeed. He doesn't hire the right people, handcuffs them on resources (both big league and minor league resources), and undermines their authority by doing stupid s%*# like hiring TLR behind Hahn's back.

Hahn actually cherry picked the stat that the Sox were 2 games over .500 from a certain date, best in the division. The master of saying nothing is running out of things to say nothing about. Please fire him today. He is the worst GM in baseball, and it isn't much of a contest.

Biggest thing for me - I am just ready for some new blood. This team so badly needs an attitude reset. I was hopeful that Pedro would the guy that could flip that script, but honestly - he's just not. I obviously don't know what he's like in the clubhouse behind closed doors, but in his interviews he seems like just about the biggest push over possible. Guy is way too nice. Its such a sad state of affairs. Amazing the Sox just absolutely squandered this window.

Danks was a good trade, that kind of self-scouting of org talent is inconceivable under Hahn. But KW was definitely a believer in the "great man" era of baseball orgs where he thought himself like single handedly finding players and trading for friends and treating it like a fantasy team. Remarkable compared to Hahn who fancied himself smart because he grew up in winnetka around rich parents coddling him and tried to make an org approach to please papa but is miserable at it because he's a talentless hack.

They should all be regularly practicing bunting, and we've seen many times what leaving the bat in their hands has produced.

The batters up in the 10th were Robert (walked), Eloy, Grandal, and Burger. I can’t imagine that any of these guys regularly practice bunting, asking them to do so is just taking the bat out of their hands.

At this point I just put the games on for background noise and I finish up last minute work stuff so I can enjoy my weekends sooner. This organization has taken just about all of my fandom away. From top down this entire franchise is a fraud.

It's okay, I get my sense of humor from them. My dad was a Dodger fan but is one of the reasons I'm a Sox fan, as he drafted some young slugger for a fantasy team in the mid 90s named Frank Thomas. My mom never had a favorite team but always thought George Brett was cute, and loved watching the Sox with me (and loved Jermaine Dye). Also taught me how to keep a scorebook. They're part of the reason I love baseball and the reason I hate this team. They weren't obsessive, but certainly the reason I give a s%*#. I consider them a reason I love the Sox and why I hate the Sox. I miss them, but they'd watch the good games and the crap games with me. Also, Luis is good despite so many flaws.

Yeah that makes sense Pedro. In a season where we aren't going anywhere, let's play Andrus a "washed up" 34 yr old (35 next month) at 2B in instead of Remi at 2B. Hell we don't need to see if Remi could be our regular 2b of the future. Instead let's put Remi in RF instead of Colas. Likewise, I guess it's not that important either to play Colas daily in RF, to see if he can be the regular RF of the future. Stupid Is as Stupid Does.

He let the architect of that team go because he had done his job and wanted to move on? And he let the whole team go because had he kept them, they'd have a $250 million payroll and like 70 wins. Were the Baez, Bryant contracts the kind of thing that would help the Cubs?

Well, TBF, three days ago they kind of were still in contention in this shitty division. Thankfully (I guess - I'd still rather watch meaningful baseball), the Sox sort of removed any doubt the past few days, while the Twins swept KC. I imagine after the ATL, NYM and MN series following the break, all doubt will be officially gone.

I would have preferred moving man over too. Not because I think we could execute a sac fly, but because I think the highest chance we had of scoring a run was by far a passed ball, which is 80% of our offense. Failed bunt is worth it, still the highest probability play was toronto accidentally throwing a ball in the dirt or hitting the umpire in the head.

I have zero interest in Eloy, Burger, or Robert practicing bunting. They have better things to work on.

Every situation is different but bottom of the inning and you are playing for just one run sure sounds like a good idea.

The TLR experience destroyed all the hope, love and interest I had in this baseball team since about 1997. im no longer a diehard. Rick Hahn being a terrible GM didn’t do that.

So with this latest jackass version of the 26 man roster facing LH starters, you are stuck with Sheets and Colas sitting paired with two backup catchers as your bench, and Remillard playing OF because your actual and faux RFers are LH. And it only helps if he continues to have good starts leading up to the deadline

If Hahn is still the GM in 4 years, means one of two things. Hahn's demented boss Jerry is still alive and the Hahn mediocrity is worse than ever. If that is the case, the Sox home game attendance will challenge the all-time Sox lowest attendance records. Additionally many loyal die-hard Sox fans like myself will have probably have dropped the team and taken a leave of absence, until the new ownership takes over. In 4 years if Hahn is still here, I will not be one of those fans knocking their head against the wall...as I won't be following the team. I'll find a new team to follow until the new owner takes over. .

Ricketts has owned the Cubs since 2009, and aside from a lucky win in game 7, the cubs would still be without a WS for over 100 years. Why did Ricketts let the architect of that team leave and let almost all the key players go ? Loyalty is a trait that escapes Joe Rickets and his clan. Maybe JR practices it to a fault, but I'd rather see that than the alternative.

Yessir. 100% of the time you bunt and don't take the bunt off even with 2 strikes. You want fundamental baseball, go check out David Bell & the Cincinnati Reds. They would've bunted, it would've been 2nd & 3rd and 1 out. Reds hitters would've been looking fastball knowing pitcher/catcher wouldn't want a wild pitch. It's style of play. The White Sox are absolutely horrendous fundamentally to the point they don't even care. It's one thing to make it to the big leagues, it's another to be humbled and constantly work on improving fundamentals. I'm done with this organization as I feel as if fundamental baseball isn't in the cards for decades. It's one thing to be a fan of a team, and another to be a good fan of fundamental baseball

But he IS responsible for allowing the incompetence, dysfunction and ineptness of the baseball side of the operation to continue for years because he is making a boatload of money.

Bump. 100% a lock at this point. Hell, 100 losses is a distinct possibility if Hahn and company actually accept reality and make some trades before the deadline.
