  1. You might find yourself feeling glum today when the Sox don't make the move you were hoping for. When you get there -- hitting "delete" on the "Bryant in a Sox jersey" image you've been working up, burning with envy as the Yankees sign three more players to supercharge their push for third in the AL East -- please just take comfort in the fact that you really have no clue what you're talking about, and a strong track record of being super wrong. Instead of dwelling on the players your team didn't get in the moment, revel in *your* great moments from the season past: cursing the FO in the offseason for failing to convert on CY-level internet troll and Miller Man of the Year candidate Trevor Bauer. Shaking your head as the Sox raided the bargain bin for Carlos f'ing Rodon instead of spending merely triple on Corey Kluber, James Paxton, Garrett Richards or the many other clearly better alternatives obvious to anyone who was not a complete idiot. Or lamenting the Sox's inability to land perfect-fit Marcell Ozuna. Or nodding your head knowingly as you cast your Soxtalk poll vote for the Sox to take third in the AL central in this "development year," when the title clearly goes through the battle-tested Bomba Squad. Close your eyes, inhale deeply, and let the realization of your own ineptitude wash out all the negativity like a mighty tide. Then open them, look at the standings, and draw yourself a nice hot bath. It will all be OK! (Or maybe not, but likely not for the reasons your dumb ass supposes.) Cheers!

  7. I like Nick Madrigal and all, but he feels highly replaceable. The ceiling isn't enormous. I'm okay with this.

  8. Wow - Madrigal and Heuer. Great move for Cubs - disgusting move for Sox. Giving up that for a $16M a year closer, ugh. At least its a 2B we moved but still - really don't like that use of resources and the sell low on Heuer.

  9. I think it comes down to this: 1. If the Sox win a World Series with Kimbrel, it's a great move. 2. If the Sox want to be big boys, they can sign Marcus Semien or any other handful of guys that will be out there and replace Nicky without blinking an eye. It only hurts if they don't replace him with talent. I love, love LOVE the White Sox going for it.

  10. gotta say...Madrigal over Crochet is SOOOO much better. I loved madrigal, but 2 years/2 injuries and his defense/speed was not as advertised. Buying a 2nd baseman is EASY in Free Agency. Hahn does it again.

  12. Just shows you what the White Sox thought of Madrigal. A singles hitter who has does not have speed, plays average defense, and has two major injuries in two years. He could very well be a good player for years to come but he never had an upside of an elite prospect.

  13. Man, I gotta let this one marinate. I LOVED Madrigal. Dude is perfect for this team. Hopefully Hahn and Jerry are looking are the FAs this offseason and willing to spend. Because Madrigal is a perfect complement to this team. Now we got $35M wrapped up in relief pitchers, and 2 offensive holes and a SP to fill via FA. $160M+ payroll is going to be necessary.

  18. Goodwin with 2 really good at bats though, regardless of the result. He was probably 1/100 of a second from putting us up by 5.

  20. Sox can trade Kimbrel for a player better than Madrigal this winter.

  21. Hot take....he would have still been probably their 7th or 8th best offensive weapon

  22. Hot take, this is fucking stupid. Gave up our starting 2B for the next five years minimum.

  23. I can see Benetti going to Marquee next year, definitely won't be satisfied with just six games of Nicky Two Strikes per year.

  26. My hot take is that I don't like this. I don't think Kimbrel is AT ALL a guarantee to be good for the next year and a half. Heuer was a good bet to bounce back based on his FIP/xFIP, meaning this very well may not be AS MUCH of an upgrade as the name value indicates.

  27. Sox trade a probable career .300 hitter for lightning in a bottle. They better strike this year.

  30. MLB should mandate vaccination and periodic testing for every player. coach, manager and employee in contact with the team. Hundreds of millions of people across the world have been vaccinated to protect themselves and also to help battle a worldwide pandemic. Anti-vax ideology is a joke...just like geocentric, flat earth bullshit and the belief that the Earth is 6,000 years old. If we allow anti-vax ideology to stand we risk losing the battle to a novel virus and its variants. If feels like we are right now looking at the numbers.

  32. Actually think it's brilliant to cut bait on Madrigal before the rest of the league realizes he's a one tool player with a fragile body. Was always a reach at 4th overall in that draft class, but I am not a Madrigal fan at all.

  33. Well at least this will end all criticism of how LaRussa uses the bullpen going forward in the GameThreads.

  34. Madrigal: baserunning, inconsistent defense, and injuries. I can live with this trade.
