  2. You really think Sosa is going to get 30,000 hits?

  3. I got to be honest, I really hate the idea of Leury still being on the team in any capacity.

  4. I like this deal, it’s aggressive, and the Sox should be aggressive right now. I’m not gonna s%*# on them. I will, however, say this: 1. If this comes on the heel of dumping a different useful player to make the money work, then it’s a wash. 2. It would be nice if, for once, the Sox started spending their “big money” at the top of the market instead of the middle. I say this not because guys like Benintendi aren’t good or that they don’t need someone like him, but because from a resource allocation standpoint, you get a lot more value for your money at the top. One of the hallmarks of this current spending window is the the Sox love to pay market rate on a per WAR basis — the average-ish players tend to fall right in the $9M/WAR range, while your $30M+ Bryce Harpers are way ahead of that, sometimes $4-7M/WAR or something. When it comes to setting a spending strategy, this is a really easily modeling problem, and it seems like most teams have solved it, but our team hasn’t thought to look into it. Again, good on them for putting the money in to patch the hole. I remain unconvinced they know how to patch holes, generally, but I’m happy that they showed today that they’re still trying.

  5. I hope Toronto trades Jansen elsewhere ASAP because these rumors of him for Liam are not it.

  6. Wait, if we want to trade Liam for Jansen, we actually have to give up two prospects to make it happen? What??

  7. I just don’t think they need catching. Yaz is on the roster. Him bouncing back has a higher probability than anyone they can realistically acquire imo. And backup types like McCann or Barnhart aren’t clearly better than Zavala

  8. It’s true, it’s a good signing. This doesn’t mean Hahn/JR don’t suck, and they haven’t screwed up a ton of other things, but on its own this is clearly a good signing.

  9. That might be the worst trade proposal I’ve seen in awhile! Lol

  10. I don’t blame the team for missing on Wheeler; I absolutely blame them for missing on Machado.

  11. I truly don't understand the Madrigal love. Sosa has 10x his potential.

  12. I can’t believe people would rather play Andrus than any of the young guys.

  13. What’s with the 2016 posts on Garcia? I is s thus a time warp? Did we get hacked?

  14. I'm not sure how he isn't putting two and two together with Eloy now being the full-time DH.

  15. So romy looked more like a big leaguer after having been in mlb before and repeating AAA than the guy who jumped from AA and was 4 years younger? Color me shocked.

  16. Nice signing Rick, but please pack your bags and GTFO

  17. Mannys offer was a sham. He would have never reached the incentives and the Sox could have limited his PT the last 3 years to make sure there was no vesting. I wouldn't be surprised if JR called Wheeler and told him the importance of family and making the best decision for your family. It's always about appearing to be at the table.

  18. Lord, we could probably get Madrigal for Joe Kelly right now.

  20. I don’t think they get Benintendi if they were gonna trade Timmy

  21. Larger bases mean slightly shorter distance between bases. Also pitcher's limited to only 2 pick off moves for a runner on base. Once you make your 2nd move its off to the races for the runner. Speeds up the game with the guys that will throw to 1st 3 or more times and gives fast runners license to steal.

  22. Yeah I like him for minor depth but still want an MLB right handed 4th OF that can platoon with Colas if he struggles.

  25. Of surprise signings I’d be stoked about, I really like Brandon drury. Surprisingly competent at 2B, had 28 homers last year. You are buying it for real but…cheaper than if it was for real. He can also play RF until colas, and let us see if any of romy/Sosa are ready. Likelihood of pumpkin status looks large, but he has highest ceiling imo of inf left at potentially realistic prices.

  26. Almost certainly the former. He's their best power bat and should now be healthier. They really need 30+ HRs from him this year.

  27. I’m just not sure how they get another starter with a major league deal on the roster. The 13/13 rule is tough.

  28. The beauty of signing Drury is that if Colas was indeed ready, then Drury just moves to 2B. Drury has now become my top target. A week ago, a friend of mine asked me how I would feel about a Drury signing. I said that if he was the only “outfield” addition, I would hate it. But if we signed him in addition to a true LF like Benintendi, then I would be ecstatic. Well, we’re halfway there on that plan now.

  29. Keith Law saying they are short a DH proves he doesn’t watch this team.

  30. fixed that Vaughn will probably lead the league in errors at 1B though.

  31. Benintendi perfect fit in the 2 hole. Love that we don’t have to worry about Eloy having to play the field anymore. Also, love that we finally spent money instead of depleting our farm system in a trade. Let’s cross our fingers and hope the Sox can add some pitching and OF depth for injuries to arise. Our lack of minor league depth in Triple A has killed us for the past decade.

  32. They can’t. But they should target some backend SP depth with options in any trades they may make.

  33. I’ll never stop believing that Aaron Sanchez will be good. He’ll be like 50 and I’ll want to sign him. He’s my new folty, who was my new Danny Salazar, who was my new Henderson Alvarez

  34. They were not allowed to offer Manny Machado $300 million.

  37. The post you quoted isn’t even from this thread. It’s from the Benintendi thread. How did you manage to quote that post and respond to it in a thread from several years ago?
    2 points
  38. Yeah - I would like them to follow this up by making a nice trade for a cost controlled guy that fills a need. Lowe, Ketel Marte, Chisholm…go back and give up some prospects and make one more big move. I will caveat risk with any of them given the cost. Or JR could just spend a bit more - give Segura a 1yr deal and use the minor league chips for something else / hold on reserve for deadline. Not saying Segura is super splashy either. But he is solid and adds versatility.

  39. He mentioned somewhere that Josh Bell was a possibility after Abreu signed in Houston. I don't think he has the best grasp of the White Sox roster.

  40. The Red Sox did. He was picked in front of the White Sox.

  41. I don’t get all the hate. f*** of ya’ll Debbie Downers. Go start a pity party thread and keep bitching there. Solid move.

  42. Yes, the low risk approach by the Sox has proven quite successful indeed.

  43. Sox record with Rick Hahn as a GM. We whine about nothing. This is great. For someone complaining about whining, you sure do whine a lot.
