  1. Chaz Jizzholm is available as stopgap!? THat's amazing news. Marlins must view Azzaez as Jizzholm's replacement.

  2. It’s strange how you started with what you think as rational reasons to not spend on RF and 2B but then immediately fell back into “they aren’t the dodgers” im not asking them to be the dodgers. Would I like ridiculous money to spend and a great minors sure but we don’t have the minors part and they impose their own spending restrictions which are stupid and keep them perpetually in this “everything must go absolutely correct this season to win it all” cycle that we all now see as the “plan”. its fucking bullshit. Asking them to spend this season on two positions off need -for the last three seasons- should not be too much for this organization. But here we are convincing ourselves that, yes, actually it’s good to count on a 23 year old player that basically didn’t play for the better part of 2 seasons after he defected from Cuba, and had one good minor league season. And Sosa and Romy could actually do it, even though we have no actual proof of any of this. so hey, cross your fingers cross your toes cross whatever you need to. Make sure the wish is “everything works out totally perfect”

  3. I really gotta be the first one to point out that LaStella was released by the Giants, NOT the Angels like Bob Tweeted?

  4. wait wait wait the marlins traded Pablo Lopez, their 5th overall prospect, and another prospect for Luis Arraez who may not even be able to handle an infield position? Amazing trade marlins.

  5. I guess you missed this part of the article. From August 1 onwards, he posted a 2.43 ERA backed by a 3.27 FIP and a 3.31 xFIP across 12 starts. His 62 ERA- was ninth best in the majors during that time period, and his strikeout-to-walk ratio went from a good 4.9 to an elite 8.3. 12 starts since August 1st. On July 16th his ERA was 7.50 he brought it down to 3.99 in his last 12 starts. His those last 4 starts his ERA started at 3.99 and remained at 3.99. But sure go ahead and concentrate on the last 4 I guess. BTW only 3 of those 6 runs against the Guardians was earned. His previous start against the Guardians just 5 days earlier was 6.1 IP and 2 earned runs which the Sox won. He had not great games in 3 of the 12 games started since Aug 1st. In the other 9 games he gave up 2 ER twice, 1 ER 4 times, and 0 ER twice. But keep doing the contrarian thing with me and taking 2 bad games out of his last 4 to make things look worse.

  7. Justus Sheffield has a minor league option remaining and was DFA’d by Seattle. Maybe try to grab him for depth?

  8. James Fegan's article over on the Athletic with his first take on the roster led to a lot of comments wailing about the Sox' inability to fill the RF and 2B slots with above average major leaguers. That's not the Sox' main problem. Here's the problem. This list is not any ranked order. 1. Tim Anderson, 79 games, .686 OPS against RHP 2. Yasmani Grandal, 99 games, 64 OPS+ 3. Luis Robert, 98 games, .702 OPS against RHP 4. Yoan Moncada, 104 games, 76 OPS+ 5. Eloy Jimenez, 84 games. 6. Lucas Giolito, 4.90 ERA over 161.2 innings. 82 ERA+ 7. Michael Kopech, 119.1 innings. 8. Lance Lynn, 121.2 innings, 99 ERA+ 9. No more Jose Abreu, who played 157 games at 133 OPS+ The core of the White Sox cannot stay healthy, and even when they are in the game, do not produce at superior levels. Only Eloy Jimenez produced an OPS+ above 110. Meanwhile, the starting staff had Dylan Cease and Johnny Cueto pitching when called upon at superior levels. Kopech didn't get to 120 innings, and Lance Lynn and Lucas Giolito were sub par starters. They are also a bad fielding club, though taking Vaughn and Sheets and Jimenez out of the outfield should help. For the Sox to contend for anything, these 8 players all need to stay healthy and produce at superior levels. If they do, it won't really matter who plays 2b and RF, because they can carry a couple of weaker spots in the lineup. If they don't, it won't really matter who plays 2b and RF, because those positions cannot makeup for failures from the core of the team.

  9. Dude had a 90:10 K/BB ratio over his last fourteen starts with a 2.52 ERA. If that isn’t sharp enough for you, not sure what would be.

  10. I'll take that bet...He wont. But getting the prospects also make minny win this trade. They are better, but that top of the lineup takes a beating without Arraez and when the annual Buxton multi month DL vaca starts

  11. I agree we have a bunch of porcelain dolls on this team and if they all can average 120/130 games we’d have a shot. Chaz Chisholm is now available to play 2nd base and if a reasonable deal can be made for him that would only leave RF in which with Chisholm at 2nd, we can have Colas play RF.

  12. Real nice move for the Twins. Hard to believe this is the best she could do for an arm like Lopez.

  13. He was such a pain in the ass. Such a tough out. Good riddance.

  14. Get Arraez out of here. I wouldn't love that trade if I were the Twins.

  15. I'm glad you put the word "superstars" in quotes. The White Sox do not currently have any true superstars.

  16. And we also convince ourselves that mini rebuilds are obvious and necessary. s%*# sucks

  17. If a rebuild means a tank job, I hope the Sox just move to Vegas. I'll root for the uniform in Vegas but not be a zealot. Trying to lose games during a tank job is against what the spirit of sports is all about.

  18. This has been obvious since June of 2021. The core isn't good enough. All 2022 and 2023 are doing is wasting time and team control and delaying the inevitable. They missed on the players. Not enough high end talent. It happens, time to tear it down and try again. I don't think these guys are ever going both stay healthy and put it together for a whole season. It will always be some combination of injuries and underperformance. I hope they're mediocre enough this year that they pull the band aid off in July. There was never any window.

  19. The 2023 is calculus is simply. Eloy, TA and Robert play 140+ games and Cease, Lynn and Gio makes 25+ starts, White Sox win division. Probably handily. Minor bouncebacks from Moncada and Grandal would also be welcomed. But if Eloy, TA and Robert miss large chunks of 2023, its going to be a dog fight to stay in the race.

  20. January 20, 1965 - Another big deal pulled off by Sox G.M. Ed Short which kept the franchise’s streak of winning seasons going. The Sox were part of a three-team trade with the Indians and Athletics. When all was said and done, the Sox parted with outfielders Jim Landis and Mike Hershberger, pitcher Fred Talbot and catcher Cam Carreon. In return they got back power hitting catcher John “Honey” Romano, pitcher Tommy John and outfielder Tommie Agee. Agee would be named Rookie of the Year in 1966 becoming the first Sox player ever with 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in a season. John would be part of the Sox brilliant starting rotation, making the All-Star team for the first time in 1968. He’d win 82 games in seven years, three times posting an ERA of under three. His trade to the Dodgers at the winter meetings in 1971 netted the Sox Dick Allen. Romano wasn’t a slouch either in his second stint with the club, banging out 33 home runs in two seasons before being traded. Romano originally came up in the White Sox system and played in 53 games during the 1959 pennant winning season. January 20, 1984 - Once again Sox G.M. Roland Hemond used the free agent compensation rule to the White Sox advantage, plucking future Hall of Famer Tom Seaver from the Mets. The Sox were entitled to compensation after losing Dennis Lamp to the Blue Jays. In his two full years with the Sox, Seaver would win 31 games, including his 300th one overall on August 4, 1985 against the Yankees. Earlier that same season he started his 14th opening day on the mound, a big-league record. In both full seasons he’d also throw over 236 innings, averaging 132 strikeouts and have an ERA both times under four. In 1985 his ERA was 3.17. Tom had to be convinced to join the Sox. It took co-owners Eddie Einhorn and Jerry Reinsdorf going to his hotel room at the winter meetings after they selected him to talk with him face to face before he agreed…. but, before Seaver let them in, he asked to see their ID’s since he had never met them before!

  23. For the price, Wendle would make a better trade target than Chisholm IMO. Left-handed bat, excellent defense, doesn't block any of the 2B prospects long-term, and shouldn't require emptying the farm. He's coming off a down year offensively but would be good in more of a platoon role with Sosa (or Romy).

  24. The BP top 101 came out today. Montgomery #32, Colas #76, and that's it for White Sox representation.

  25. and if they trade our boy Chaz, all indications would be they want current major leaguers that don't need to develop... who is that on our team going out?
    1 point
  26. I'm still confused by the assumption that he *should* be available when no one really has any clue what Miami is doing, let alone Rick Missing In Action Hahn having any prerogative to pursue him. Or the presumption that Arraez would play 2B for them, and why its thread worthy for that matter.
    1 point
  27. So Jazz possibly became available…did the Sox suddenly gain something to trade? It would make 0 sense to empty out what little assets we have in the minors for a 2B that doesn’t make us a WS contender.
    1 point
  28. It seems like Arraez hit about .600 against us last year.

  29. When I see a post like this mention names about who failed and don't see the name Reinsdorf , I laugh. He is the root, the rest are branches. He hands are in everything the Sox fail at. Sure Hahn's taken a lot of hits but those hits are build into dealing in a very limited range of what he can do since Jerry is pulling the strings of his puppets. Rinse and repeat !

  32. Based on the actions of the FO and ownership they were never serious. What Jerry/KW/Hahn have done from 2017-present is just like what the Hawks did in the mid to late 90s. They have pissed off the fanbase to the nth degree. When they trade players next winter the fans will hold a similar grudge that the Hawks fans did to Bill Wirtz. Sox fans are not coming back to the park until there is new ownership. It's already started.

  33. Right, they're almost forced into a rebuild after this year, regardless of results, because they changed absolutely NOTHING about how they operate from the previous failed "window" -- they developed almost no talent at all (practically the entire core is made up of prospects they traded for), invested in nothing whatsoever into depth or the production thereof, and spent their payroll budget like they have no idea how baseball works. I mean, it's crazy to think about but, even if they get to the World Series this year, they essentially STILL have to rebuild. Are they going to expand the payroll enough to re-sign their departing pitchers? Not if they actually have good platform seasons. The talk about building a system for "sustainable competitiveness" was either never serious or this is an utterly historic failure. Absolutely unbelievable that leadership hasn't been fired. I mean really insane.

  35. It's fun watching other teams trying to improve.

  36. The prob Problem is the Sox aren't trying. I have a suspicion, just a suspicion, that if they believed the team could really win big, they might actually try harder. Their approach may be a tell on what their opinion of the team really is. This is possibly the transition year until they clear the decks a little and reload after with whatever next wave they can come up with.

  37. Short arm action vs long arm action means more with arm climb at foot strike. As long as his arm is in the correct place at foot strike the rest doesn’t matter. The arm spiral and layback are usually the same. Short arm is used a lot to simplify moving parts. The more worrying thing is this guy keeps changing his mechanics every year or so.
