  1. Nick Madrigal has more HR's then Tim Anderson on June 30th. Woof.
  2. Score should be 5-4 if Andrus runs hard all the way. A’s weren’t even going to go home with the throw.
  3. Sox made a colossal mistake not trading Timmy this past offseason, as they knew his personal issues weren’t going away anytime soon
  4. 4 points
Yeah, I have been thinking about this myself. I too think Giolito is too valuable not to trade. But certainly don't think Hahn will pull the trigger until the very last minute unless Sox fall back into 8+ GB range. Giolito, as it sits right now, is likely the top FA SP after Ohtani and perhaps Yamamoto. His value should be a prospect in the 50-100 range. If you could flip him for a major league ready SP that you can just plug right into the rotation effectively turning 12 Gio starts into 6.5 seasons of a SP, that'd pretty tough to not pull the trigger on. Names like Gavin Stone, Emmet Sheehan (LA), Quinn Priester (PIT), Andrew Abbott (CIN), and AJ Smith-Shawver (ATL) are all major league ready or close and could make varies degrees of sense.
  5. Andrus lack of hustle, Grifol saving the bullpen to lose.....Rick Hahn is ass Executive
  6. Hahn continued, "Fortunately, we were able to bring over from Japan Daiki Asama, Naoya Ishikawa, and Daiki Obara, former teammates that can bring some of that Ohtani-adjacent magic to the clubhouse."
  7. White Sox senior vice president Rick Hahn said he was "in a little bit of disbelief" regarding Shohei Ohtani's decision to sign with the Dodgers on Tuesday. Chicago was among the main suitors for Ohtani prior to Tuesday's decision. "If the offer that I'm seeing, or the acceptance of the offer I'm seeing is true, actually our offer had the opportunity for Shohei to surpass that," Hahn told reporters at the White Sox's Spring Training facility in Glendale, AZ. "But in the end we went after the guy, obviously we didn't get him, and we're disappointed."
  8. I never thought about it but you are right. Josh Naylor, Pavin Smith, Nick Pratto, Aaron Sabato and Xavier Isaac are the only other first round first baseman drafted in the MLB draft since 2013....when a team sucks like this you can spend time on Wikipedia and not miss a damn thing.
  9. Yep...no reason to have Remi in the 2 hole right now, none at all.

Just my opinion, but he seems to have really improved his approach, in a way where you could almost track what was being worked on based on the results. He went from a ton of contact but not much power into a few weeks where you could really tell he was working on selectivity and taking/walking more. Now he seems to be converting that selectivity into looking for his pitches to drive (to flashy 8-game hit streak, 6HR in 5 games results) in a way that I think is more sustainable. I do think he's legitimately putting something together and not just falling back on his natural power, and everyone involved with his recent development seems to say that he's been very receptive to the adjustments. But I'm personally quite high on him, so I could be biased.
  11. The Oakland pitcher has an ERA of 6.84 so far this year. Look for him to pitch seven shout-out innings, striking out eleven.
  12. he who laughs last, laughs best?

the chance to compete? WTF are you talking about? 2020/2021/2022/2023....chances......chances....chances....
  14. I will 1000% go to Vegas, when the Sox are there. You also couldn't pay me to go to Oakland, when the Sox are there. And if the stadium goes where they proposed, where the current Tropicana is, that will be an amazing experience. Its going to suck even more to drive the strip, though.
  15. Prior to the season, if you told me the Sox would be 4 1/2 games back on the last day of June I probably would've thought "ok, not ideal but doable". Then add to that oh yeah they are also 36-47 "WTF!!!" Comedy Central indeed....hat tip to @Greg Hibbard
  16. We should be able to petition the league to move all Oakland games to 4 pm start times on the west coast because the league has decided they don’t care about that team

This is a “rebuild” thread…but truly appreciate your douchey, mindless contribution to it.

Colson with his first HR of the season.
  19. No offense to Elvis but there's no need for him to be on this team. Get rid of him pls and his .199.
  20. The newest production by Andrew Lloyd Webber...LOSERS... about the epic battle between 2 of the worst teams in baseball.
  21. It’s depressing looking at the Sox lineup tonight and thinking this is supposed to be a contending team
  22. Andrew Vaughn: 3rd pick in the draft .5 fwar Ryan Noda: Rule 5 selection 1.4 fwar Never ever ever ever ever draft a first baseman in the first round.
  23. I am not implying anything. I am just stating my opinion of why the Sox management seem reluctant to confront or challenge TA. I am seeing TA in ads promoting baseball to kids all the time.
  24. Vaughn is turning it around nicely with LA.
  25. I know TA's struggling and playing like s%*# but what an awful call. That call hurts even more when you're tryin to come out of a slump, u see it correct but get blown call by the ump.
  26. Take me down to ground ball city where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
  27. There’s just no urgency. They will wait until next week to call up Colas despite how awful Sheets is playing.
  28. Just a reminder: WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF RICK HAHN’s WINDOW OF MULTIPLE CHAMPIONSHIPS.
  29. Get Gavin Sheets off this team and bring up Colas
  30. Their AAA hitters are much better than our AAA pitcher
  31. He’s impossibly bad, good lord
  32. Gordon...you pretty much had trouble hitting in ANY situation...let alone with the late afternoon shadows.
  33. 2 points
The fact that they continue to play Gavin Sheets instead of him is one thing that really annoys me with this team. Gavin Sheets is exactly what he is. He's a statue in RF with a decent arm. He's butcher at first. For his size, he doesnt hit nearly enough HRs and he isnt a good enough hitter to get by without hitting those. Colas should be up whenever the next home stand is. There is no more reason to give Sheet consistent playing time.

Colas with his 2nd ? of the night.
  35. nice of the cubs to beat the ever living f*** out of cleveland
  36. It's June 30 and Nick Madrigal has more home runs than Tim Anderson....for those keeping track.
  37. Billionaire Jerry was given far more than $150M over the years with all of the free remodeling that has taken place, not to mention rent free and real estate tax free for approaching a half century.
  38. Yup. I know i'd be there at least once a year or whenever the Sox are in town. Always love a good excuse to go to Vegas.
  39. Bro, by this logic the Sox should move.

Giolito is gone the second free agency begins.
  41. 2 points
If you can trade Giolito and 1-2 of the bullpen arms that are having strong seasons with low commitments to get some help for the future while also hanging around in this terrible division I would call that an absolute win/win and also a very likely scenario. So we need to rely on Banks, Scholtens, and Toussaint to fill in rotation spots if that happens? So what, were already doing that anyways.
  42. 2 points
Of course as already pointed out this thread is a rebuild thread not a sell the team thread so the guy posted it in the wrong thread.
  43. I'm sorry to be the contrarian here, but the Sox bats better stay alive like the last two games and not go to sleep, like when their bats often go dormant. I know the A's are the worst team in baseball. However if you take the A's for granted, they can beat you. Go check back in early June when the A's went to the Brewers and swept them. They followed that up the next series at home and shocked the Rays by taking the first two games and splitting the series 2-2. I'm just saying, if the Sox bats go soft like they have shown us they are very capable of, it might not be pretty. On the positive side, if the Sox are going to prove they want to win the division, then they need to sweep the A's. I realize we probably have two bullpen starts. However the A's are the worst pitching staff with the 30th ERA of 6.08. There is no excuse why the Sox can't and shouldn't put up big run totals in each game and sweep them. Additionally the Twins have a tough three game series with the Orioles at Baltimore and the Guardians play the Cubs at Wrigley. The Cubs have their two best pitchers going in game 1 and 2 with Steele and Stroman who are having all-star seasons.

Any metric you look at will tell you that this team stinks. It would be a travesty to stand pat or move what little assets we have to try and polish this turd. Giolito and some of these bullpen arms have to be dealt. They wont resign Giolito, they wont offer him the QO, he cannot remain on this team past 8/1. If they are still able to somehow win tallest midget and get into the playoffs, great, enjoy that little playoff revenue. Whats best for this franchise moving forward is to get something for these guys instead of getting nothing.

Honestly, I struggle with assuming what that cut-off might be. Normally I’d agree that 5 games is the right number, but I think even Hahn realizes how flawed this offense is. Might need to be a bit closer than that to pass on selling what should be a really attractive trade chip in Giolito. I also hate the idea of completely standing Pat at the deadline. Usually you’re either buying or selling to some extent, but throwing more resources at this team seems foolish and is just stretching out the inevitable retool / rebuild.
  46. Sox at Oakland. Clash of 2 powerhouse teams. Sure bet to be on national TV?
  47. I love coming to SoxTalk and getting free legal analysis.
  48. Hell, if that's what it takes to get him motivated, how about putting this spread next to his stall in the clubhouse for every QS made?
