  1. Wow, I never thought when I started this little thing called Today's Game Thread that I would have the honor to do it all again tomorrow. 2. You know I honestly think now they have a chance to lose the last 15 in a row to close the season. Then next year they have to open at Houston and play 10 of the first 14 on the road (if memory serves). You could be looking at a historic losing streak!!!!! One other note about tonight, the Sox have the most expensive bullpen in MLB history, yet every guy who came out of the pen tonight had an ERA of at LEAST 4.6. That's some "brilliant" G.M. the Sox have isn't it? if Hahn is retained (I'd bet money he is) the first question he should be asked by the media is, "Rick, with respect, based on your 10 year track record why should any Sox fan trust your judgement moving forward?" I'd love to hear him answer that one.

  3. For the life of me I can't figure out why the Sox are playing big leaguers this last week and a half. Just shut down this wretched team and let the minor leaguers play and lose instead of these quitters.

  4. Best at bat I've seen in months from the Sox there from Payton. And he gets rewarded with the error, and guess what..he ends at 2B on an infield popup because he hustled. Dude needs to play every day rest of the way.

  5. Another finalist for the slogan for your 2022 Chicago White Sox...."We don't want to finish under .500"

  6. I am all for optimism but there are only so many times I can dip into that well. 90 wins next year might be possible with a few more stars lining up - that does give you a central title but not a playoff quality team. I am beyond where the hope of backing into the playoffs makes up for enduring the product I have to watch along the way. Maybe the injuries are in line with the norm these days. However, the abject stupidity these players show at the plate, on the basepaths, and in the field is hardly the norm. Neither is not giving decent effort or showing you even care - when that's the least of what the paying fans are entitled to see. These last couple weeks are an insult. Act like a damn professional player with some pride in what your doing for heaven's sake!!! At this point, I hate to say it, but W-L aside, I just don't "like" this group of players (I hesitate to call them a team because they sure don't seem to want to do the least thing to honor the White Sox brand). And then the management and ownership...

  7. Even though Abreu has hit over .300 since the ASB, his wOBA that time is just .340. He's been a glorified singles hitter in the 2nd half. I don't think you can bring him back next year unless it's for a very cheap price.

  8. If Abreu is kept... Eloy or Vaughn (although I would keep Vaughn over Eloy despite Eloy's bat talent. Just tired of the consistent injuries) I hope the Sox let Abreu walk and let Vaughn man 1B for the next decade plus. Thanks for the memories Jose but we need a fresh start (and glove for that matter) at 1B.

  9. I may be out in left field (pun intended 😁) on this, but I think Anderson goes. He’s the guy that should get the best return. Ok, everyone call me names.

  10. Baby Moncada is out of lineup again, resting his boo boo while he waits for a pink foot guard to go with his shoes.

  11. I think the big shift in white sox fortunes was the edge that KW had over other GMs was he had great pro scouting for players that still had something left in the tank and had just been injured or down years. I think what would be attributed to the increase in Fastball velocity has led to a faster decline of veterans. KW really relied on FA plug-ins and guys being pushed out by new talent. He also took advantage of those "blocked" by vets (CQ, to a much, much lower extent D'angelo Jimenez). I think that wouldn't happen now, as the teams would instead deal the vet and take the younger player. But, of course it could all just be that hahn was worse at it. There was still players like DJ Lemaheiu nabbed by yanks. There was still players like Zobrist. There was still players like Daniel Murphy with Nats. There was still Nelson Cruz. Older, 2nd contract players made some big impacts still. Hahn being a ineffectual in drafting and Intl meant he had to hit in FA, and instead he brought us: Jeff keppinger Melky Cabrera Jimmy Rollins Cody Asche Edwin Encarnacion Jon Jay Adam LaRoche He bought low on Brett Lawrie, Nomar Mazara, Yonder Alonso, sorry I have to stop this is too painful.

  12. Injury prone players getting injured is not insane bad luck. It's an expected outcome. If you're going to build a team based on a core of fragile players that can't stay on the field, then you at least better build up insane depth. Unfortunately the Sox depth is among the worst in baseball.

  13. https://www.milb.com/scores/chicago-white-sox/2022-09-28 https://www.mlb.com/prospects/stats/affiliates?teamId=145&date=09/28/2022 Well everyone, or at least those few who are left, we have reached the final game of the minor league season. Thanks to everyone who contributed this year and hopefully better times are ahead. I have to honestly admit that it has probably been my most frustrating year following the Sox in over 50 seasons and I am ready for this year to be over. Thanks to the ST owners/admin/mods who entrusted me to the FS board. To all, be well and go Sox.

  14. I'm fucking exhausted of the offseason already and the Sox have 6 games left.

  19. Way to get 0-50 cents on the dollar for Rodon, Madrigal and Vaughn…all top five first rounders.

  20. Who wants our "core" players? Sox would get zip for every one if they actually could find some one to take them. It does fit in with our front office strategy though. "Buy high and sell low"

  21. Giolitos' arb number next year is going to make it difficult to tender him a contract.

  22. Find that fastball by altering his mechanics again. There are a few teams that thrive at increasing velocity, and god knows the Sox aren’t one.

  23. Eloy, Vaughn, and Abreu can’t be teammates next season. Abreu needs to move on. Moncada would be great to move, but I doubt it happens. The rest will be back and hopefully the new manager will get more out of these guys.

  24. I'd trade Gio, but I wouldn't sell low. The guy I would really like to trade because he seems like he's more about style than substance, but is still a guy who could get you something nice in return is TA. If Montgomery was a year more developed and looked like a regular MLB SS, it would be done. But if you want to win in 2023, you better have a SS, and maybe TA will get back to trying to be the best instead of trying to look like the best.

  26. I was a Hahn guy until THIS season. f*** him and his obsession with overpriced relievers and "seat at the table" BS. Clean house completely or this rebuild is going to be a study in GM school for what not to do the next 50 years.

  29. I'd like to start off this gamethread that few will probably join to say if Rick Hahn uses the word injury or injuries in the 1st minute of his end of the year press conference.....he can F$%# all the way off. Oh, by the way, today's pitching matchup is Lucas Giolito vs Louie "tip your cap" Varland.

  31. There's a hack for this. When the article comes up, there's a 2 or 3 second period before the paywall appears. In that time, if you're on a desktop computer, hit ctrl-P as if you were going to print the article. The print preview containing the whole article for you to read will be in the preview pane. Typical Morrissey echo of what everyone knows anyway. Not worth the time to hit ctrl-P.

  32. You're right a good catcher is hard to find especially a good defensive catcher that can hit. Hahn had a potential one in a young 27 yr old Reese McGuire. Hahn felt it necessary to trade this solid 27 yr catcher to Boston for 35 yr old Jake Diekman. Since Diekman came to the Sox: 22 games - 7.41 ERA, 16 Inn, 25 hits, 10 BB's, 2.06 Whip. Since McGuire went to the Red Sox: 31 games - .353/.398/.529/.927 and defensively not recording any errors or passed balls yet at Boston.

  35. Eloy's contract the next 2 years is pretty reasonable for a guy with his ceiling. I get the injury concerns, but the fact that he's played only 1 year worth of games in the last 2 is no guarantee that's what the next 2 years will bring, especially if a team has a DH spot and thinks they can keep him healthy. I think he'd have some demand. Seems like they either need to let Abreu walk or find a TB-style trade of young MLBers for Vaughn or Eloy to bring back some MLB-ready talent that is hopefully a better fit and not just another 1B/DH type.

  36. It was a disaster of a season. Partly because of injuries and partly because of the manager. TLR made way too many bonehead decisions and wasn’t the energy this team needed. They need to hire a manager that has some energy and that will stay alert in the dugout. The team looked like it was sleepwalking through most of the games.

  37. They’ve totally quit. Astonishing that it sounds like Hahn will keep his job. This is the most pathetic Sox season of my life.

  38. Just for fun, tuned in to see Giolito’s first fastball was 88.8 mph

  39. As Rick likes to say, there is a guy that checks all the boxes. Sandy Alomar Jr. Knows the Cleveland way. Is part of the White Sox "family". And was 27-19 as an interim manager last season. The guy has come in 2nd for a ton of jobs. I wouldn't mind him on the South Side.

  40. If Hahn goes yes but the White Sox love their guys. That is why we have four DH's and no LF or RF.

  44. I would have figured this utter embarrassment of a season would have dialed down this sort of arrogance.

  45. If the manager and GM aren’t aligned on things philosophically, then they shouldn’t hire that person to be the manager
    1 point
  46. Conditional based on TLR actually being completely out of the organization, the new manager being from outside the org, and at least one reasonable offseason acquisition, I'll buy a 10-game plan or something of the sort for next year. Only been to one game in the last 3 seasons.
