  1. The way I see it a new “best in class” stadium + a new “anyone but a Reinsdorf” ownership = a complete transformation for the franchise. This is such a no-brainer move for the Sox and we’re truly lucky this plot of land is even available and actually attainable for us. Get this s%*# done so Sox fans can actually dream of a promising future for the next generation of fans.

  3. Tailgating is fun and all, but how often are people actually doing it over a summer? Meanwhile those lots sit empty and locked 20 hours a day on most days. There is zero rational argument for keeping that much empty parking when almost anything else would be a better draw for fans and a much better use of real estate.

  4. Stop trying to speak for “Sox fans.” Quite literally every other Sox fan in this thread is telling you you’re wrong so hey maybe you’re fuckin wrong.

  5. The current logo is nationally known, even outside baseball. It's such a classic that I have a hard time seeing a new ownership group rebranding and drastically changing it. Maybe a few new alternate uniforms, but I don't see that classic Sox going away.

  11. Rubenstein has said that he was once offered the opportunity to meet Mark Zuckerberg (and invest in Facebook) before he dropped out of Harvard but decided against it, and this is his single greatest investment regret.[15] Rubenstein also said that he turned down a 20% stake in Amazon during the very early years of the company. He told Amazon founder Jeff Bezos that if he got lucky and everything worked out he would at most be worth $300 million.[16] In 2018, he formed Declaration Capital, a family office focused on venture, growth, real estate, and family-owned businesses.[17][18] Mobile home parks controversy Rubenstein was publicly criticized for the work of The Carlyle Group of which he is the chairman, which owns a number of mobile home parks and has been pushing poor people out of their mobile homes by hiking up the rental price.[19] In an episode of Last Week Tonight, John Oliver pointed out that manufactured homes are not easy or cheap to relocate, and so poor residents on fixed incomes face eviction and homelessness as rent increases threaten to price them out of their mobile home parks.[20] wikipedia Billionaire David Rubenstein’s philanthropic efforts trash the Founding Fathers, even though his own business has made a fortune from deals that have profited off the less fortunate. Since 2013, Rubenstein, 72, who co-founded the private equity giant the Carlyle Group, has given millions to entities that repair and upgrade historical monuments and landmarks like the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument as well as Monticello and Montpelier, the homes of US presidents Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. But some say the restoration at the presidential homes has recast the presidents as sinister racists while downplaying their accomplishments. Recent visitors to Monticello and Montpelier have flooded Trip Advisor with complaints about how the former presidents have been virtually reduced to villainous slaveholders in lectures by the tour guides while books on anti-racism and critical race theory by Ibram X. Kendi and Ta-Nehisi Coates dominate the gift shops. Remarked Dan A. after his visit to Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello: “Do your history homework before going, so you can appreciate this great American… the woke tour guide will leave you feeling like he started the Ku Klux Klan.” “They have demonized the founding fathers now,” wrote another recent visitor to Monticello. “Same thing with Madison’s home. I would stay away from places like this. It’s not worth the propaganda.” https://nypost.com/2022/07/30/woke-billionaire-who-trashed-the-founding-fathers-profited-off-eskimos-oil/ Somewhere I can see Balta enjoying this guy. But a quick dive into Rubenstein’s backstory shows he’s not so pure himself. He made his initial fortune in the 1980s by exploiting a tax loophole in Alaska allowing him to profit from deals made with Natives — and the Rubenstein family has been expanding their influence in the 49th state ever since. In 2014, Rubenstein’s then-wife helped elect a governor in Alaska who in turn opened up the state’s $80 billion Permanent Fund, a fraction of which is managed by the Carlyle Group, to special interests. Rubenstein’s daughter was appointed to the board of that fund last month. “Here’s a guy who has taken advantage of other people to climb to the top while he expects perfection from the Founding Fathers,” Dan f**an, a talk show host and journalist who covered Alaska for 25 years, told The Post. “Because of the Rubenstein family and how [his ex-wife] influenced the change in the state’s sovereign fund, the average Alaskan family has lost tens of thousands of dollars.” Balta maybe NOT SO MUCH enjoying this part of the backstory. https://nypost.com/2022/07/30/woke-billionaire-who-trashed-the-founding-fathers-profited-off-eskimos-oil/

  12. For Orioles fans, much like Sox fans, it’s hard to see a change being worse. The Orioles have had a pathetically low payroll for years but a good front office. We have a higher payroll but an owner that hires the wrong front office people and keeps them employed for far too long.

  13. That could certainly change the direction of that franchise with their good young core, excellent deep farm system. If those guys are willing to spend money watch out.

  14. An ownership change is coming, it’s just a matter of when. But even without one, a new stadium would have a real impact on long-term attendance. The people who visit downtown Chicago in the summer would have another stop on their agenda given its premium location. And that’s especially true if the leaked renderings and rumors of being closer to the action reflect any sort of truth, as those suggest a ballpark that would be amongst the best in sports.

  15. So you don’t think that a new park accessible by three different color/route CTA trains rather than just one, along with two Metra stations via boat taxi would not perhaps increase the number of Sox fans that would commute to the new ballpark location? Also, what is a picture of the 78 site right now supposed to show anyone? What a barren undeveloped site looks like before the work is done? You have been proven wrong on this topic so many times with each post that you have made on it from the beginning. First, you said it was never going to happen due to soil and foundation issues, yet multiple news articles came out adding some serious steam to this being a real possibility. There are also rumors that JR is much further along with this plan than you would apparently want to believe. The mayor has commented on it. Manfred has commented on it. Now you have changed your tune again to saying a ballpark in the location just doesn’t make any sense to happen for your own weak and biased reasons (parking and tailgating). Read the tea leaves for cripes sake. Where there is smoke, there is fire.

  16. Fwiw, I find it extremely interesting that we hear complaints about the lack of competitive balance in baseball, a sport with strong contract guarantees, while the NFL, a sport with very weak contract guarantees, literally has a rematch of a Super Bowl from 5 years ago and Kansas City has missed the Super Bowl once in the last 5 years. A hard cap and floor with non guaranteed contracts has left the NFL with the exact same teams on top every year, yet we don’t hear how the NFL needs stronger contract guarantees to improve its competitive balance.

  17. Just because they are making money doesn't mean it's record profits. There are also record salaries and that's just the MLB players not to mention all for the other employees in the ever expanding FOs. The come on I know they are rhetoric is just that we don't know but everyone just wants to jump on it. I disagree with the sentiment of not caring about competitive balance. I know you have said you aren't a baseball fans but a white Sox fan. However I'm a baseball fan and for the good of the game, the league needs a salary cap and floor so their is a more level playing field for the league.

  19. The league itself has stated they are a 10 billion dollar a year business, that's NFL territory. Forbes and other reputable business/industry sites have shown the figures, feel free to look it up. And the Braves who have to open the books have shown large profit margins. Plus of course the documented fact for the 94-95 labor impasse as examined by the impartial economist from Stanford, owners were lying through their teeth and diverting funds from television revenue, concessions, parking to order to show losses. He blew up that contention and the owners have refused to open their books since. Geez...I wonder why? 😆 C'mon PTATC you know better then to assume the owners aren't making a ton of money. Like Ken Rosenthal wrote if they weren't, guys who are basically bench players wouldn't be given the contracts they are getting. For once in the 125 years the Sox franchise has been around let them become sharks and simply tear up the opposition on and off the playing field. Honestly I give a s%*# about competition and league balance, I want to win. I'm tired as a fan for 63 seasons now of basically being on the short end of the stick.

  20. According to the Financial Times, Chelsea have secured an investment of approximately $500 million from Ares Management/(Arougheti, the other billionaire involved in the Orioles' deal), a prominent US alternative asset manager. This injection is expected to be channelled into the club’s stadium improvements and to increase their stakes in other football teams. While the consortium comprising Clearlake Capital and Los Angeles Dodgers co-owner Todd Boehly have heavily invested in new players this summer, Chelsea’s on-field results have been less than commendable. Still the new owners, including Clearlake’s co-founder José Feliciano, are committed to further their investment and translate heavy spending into silverware with help of the Blues’ intrinsic value in the market. “We have bought an asset that is very coveted by many other potential buyers. “Ultimately, we are extremely aligned with that supporter and fan base because the best way to make our club more valuable is to win.” -José Feliciano; Source: Financial Times In a broader context, Ares Management has already raised $3.7 billion last year for investments in sports franchises, leagues, and media outlets. They have themselves injected the $500m via ‘preferred equity deal’, as per the FT’s report. Given Chelsea have yet to sign a new shirt sponsorship deal and plan on undertaking massive investments at Stamford Bridge, as well as BlueCo’s ambitions to expand the multl-club structure well beyond France and RC Strasbourg, successful rounds of investment are more than welcome. Just as long as Ares and co. don’t start using our assets as leverage in credit and capital markets ailing from high interest rates.

  21. You get what you deserve, Baltimore and Angelos. In all seriousness, don't see this ending well. He probably orders the GM to strip the team for parts...trading away their entire farm system to create a JR-esque Washington Generals clone team. $1.7+ billion purchasing price. Predatory capitalism at its finest. Got a great price without a premium for that farm system and unprecedented financial flexibility, at least. Less than 300 murders in 9 years, 11,000 cars stolen last year with 450 this year so far, 30 year lease on a 32 y/o stadium. So as soon as they won their 100th game, who didn't see this coming.

  28. I get the feeling that if JR picks the next owner, not much will change. With as many owners as he has tried to block over the years, I can't see him pick someone against what he sees as his own legacy. Maybe it is PTSD and all, but it is a real fear of mine.

  33. Found the one page I was thinking of, it's 9 years old now. I don't know who this person is but I liked some of the concepts. There's one that's literally just our current logo and unis with red trim that wouldn't be a huge departure. https://clumsytuba.wordpress.com/2015/04/22/white-sox-uniform-concept-updates/

  34. Bridgeport/ Armor Square would be an easier site to develop but has done little or nothing to produce hordes of Sox fans. Moving closer to downtown where a lot of people work would provide an upgrade to the Sox image imo. There would be a better opportunity to attract casual fans who are scared of the big bad South Side. Unfortunate but true. I have never had an issue with the South Side or taking the Green Line to games.

  35. Getting ahead of ourselves but it might be the next logical step: does a new stadium and a new ownership group also lead to logo rebranding? Remember, new Comiskey ushered in the current logo and colors we all love (pretty sure opening day of the new park was the first day in the new unis). Like many, I love our logo and don't really want a change. But there was a fan mockup a few years ago that added red as a tertiary color to the current setup that I really liked, mostly red piping or outlining. Wasn't a big change, just an upgrade to the existing stuff. I wouldn't be surprised to see a change to our logo to really overhaul the image and perception for the organization to go along with a shiny new facility and ownership.

  38. The White Sox have never been a huge draw at 35th and Shields, they are one of the few MLB teams that have failed to draw 3 million fans in a season, sort of sad for a big market club. It was a huge mistake to build Comiskey II there in the first place and on top of it they built an ugly monstracity that everybody hated. I thought at the time moving to Addison was a good idea but now building a new place at “78” would make a ton of sense. For starters they would draw more from the downtown after work force and also from tourists staying in the downtown area, they would also draw more casual fans who won’t travel to 35th street but would to “78”. Get this done Chicago.

  46. Most Sox fans are used to driving to GRF from the suburbs. They will never avail themselves of mass transit for security reasons among other things. Everything considered, maybe building on the site of the original Comiskey makes the most sense. The site is not in a hole, no need for environmental, it has historical significance, parking and infrastructure are already there, and the Sox/ISFA and City already own the land and surrounding parking. Why make things more complicated than they need to be....so people from the SW suburbs can paddle there down the Sanitary canal ? Sometimes the easiest and most cost effective solution is the best one.

  49. I would tell him: if it's publicly funded, then it's owned by the city of Chicago, it's going to have a retractable roof, and the city will use it however it wants for the 284 days a year that the Sox aren't at home, and keep all revenues from that usage. If you want anything other than that, pay for it yourself.
