Like, who fucking cares? Gio’s personal life is his own business and has no impact on me as a fan of his. Marriages end, often times for the better.9 points

These guys are human beings. Life happens, like having to get a divorce because thigs don't work out. Whether it's TA or GIO, it's really none of my business as long as they act like good human beings and try to right the wrongs and learn from their mistakes. I think for me it becomes my business when a guy is a dead beat of a human being and he plays for my favorite team. I don't want to root for guys like that and don't want my kids looking up to guys like that. I think this goes on with every team but it's only highlighted even more with the White Sox because they have gone from a fun, contending, loveable team to a absolute dumpster fire on the field. I think we are all frustrated with this team and organization because we do care. That's why it's easy to highlight things that go on with this team outside of baseball. Just my 2 cents7 points

Giolito getting a divorce, a deeply personal matter that we shouldn't speculate on. Some people: "How does this reflect the White Sox organization?"7 points

Try to mind your own business folks. Meanwhile, I hope Gio and Cease return to the Sox as our 1 and 2 pitchers with the big contracts they deserve. They are both going to good for several more years.6 points

Even bigger contrast between Anderson and Clevinger. Anderson is doing the right thing, taking care of the child financially, saying he is also a part of his life. Meanwhile Clevinger allegedly did not pay/withheld child support, was accused of beating the child's mother and spitting tobacco in his child's face, confiscating the child's documents, and engaging in other forms of abuse. People have either said nothing or were adamant "he is innocent based on MLB sham investigated primarily to protect the interests of ownership (do you want to honor the contract, is this case bad PR for the team, etc.)..4 points

In a related story,Eloy Jimenez injured himself watching the home run derby.3 points

Oh well, doesn't really matter honestly. Tightness in the calf is a two week injury at most. Hopefully the Sox lose every game he's out so hahn continues to be a naked emperor.3 points

Actually you did warn against Robert doing the HRD as I remember your response: If I had any say, I’d tell him to forget the HR Derby. Right now he’s in a good place with his swing, timing and mechanics and the Derby could screw that up and with his history of injuries we might see a trip to the IL. I’ll keep my fingers crossed. Many got on you for saying that, but you were right and kudos to you. His swing, timing and mechanics were his best ever. He didn't need those stupid 50 swings like he would never be swinging in a real game. Imagine if we were in first place, how everybody here would be screaming right now how dumb it was.3 points

This is the White Sox. Him playing on Friday has surprisingly little to do with whether he's actually healthy enough to play.3 points

I would have bet that this would happen. No one should be shocked.3 points

A lot of people before last night probably didn't know much if any about Luis Robert and now they do. That first round showed everyone he has as much power as any player in baseball, evidenced by the 484 foot HR, which was the furthest hit of the night. Keep in mind this is an exhibition contest and a total non-reality of home run production during the real games. It's strictly for the fans and by no means a true measure of a home run hitter. Case in point, Mookie Betts struggled last night. However Betts is as good of a home run hitter as anyone in baseball this year being tied for 3rd with 26 HR's along with Robert and Alonso. Keep in perspective, Guerrero Jr. has only 13 home runs this season. Big deal he wins a HR derby.3 points

This. Haven't heard of his charity work either, though I'm glad he did it. Teams request players to perform charity. community and commercial events pimping White Sox sponsors as a standard course of business. To read anything negative into the efforts of Lucas, Tim or others reflects poorly on those taking pot shots to criticize players they do not like / hate.3 points

Its unfortunate that his marriage is ending and it sounds like it was at least a joint decision without any drama. I think its perfectly acceptable to discuss how this might affect his performance and the team, this is a White Sox forum and what happens in his personal life can and might have an affect on the teams performance.3 points

Yeah I’m not following that comparison and the either/or logic for this at all. There’s nuance here. Charitable work is generally a public or community-centric thing by nature, so it’s kind of hard for it to be private. Also, it’s nothing new that good things are celebrated and people like to hear about them.3 points

I wish player lives just weren’t news. Nobody likes to hear about a couple getting divorced, certainly not my place to judge since I have no idea what happened.3 points

Athletes, entertainers and public figures are in the public eye. With great money and fame comes the speculation. Is it fair? Eh, what is in life. I'm not going to speculate beyond a shitpost in joke for Sox fans here on the forum but it kinda is the deal you sign up for when you sign that pro contract. Gio, coming from a Hollywood background, surely understands it more than...TA.3 points

I thought it was awesome seeing Luis in the derby personally, irrespective of this season. Definitely a bright spot for me.3 points

Draft the best athletes available and trade them later if there is a log jam. There is no extra credit if you drafted your starting line up.3 points

A chimp strapped to a chair pointing a Bozo Buckets to make personnel decisions would have had a better outcome than Rick Fuckin Hahn over the past decade ... it's absolutely pathetic that we're stuck with this absolute dumpster fire of a GM, quite literally, the worst sports executive in history by any objective measure.2 points

I am not as down on TA as others, I just think both he and the Sox are ready to move on.2 points

He needs to be traded, even it the FO has to be creative and eat a partial amount of his salary or in a trade not be greedy and take a few low A prospects. Grandal is blocking catchers from a defensive standpoint. I don't care if Perez and Zavala can't hit, at least they can catch better than Grandal. Grandal was never a good defensive catcher, his only decent skill was he supposedly was good at was framing. However at this point in his career he sucks at everything. As the one poster said, we need to clean out the cancerous culture on this team.2 points

I don't even know. I feel like montgomery emerges, or TA emerges, and have overcome so much adversity in this system to get their they were that special player who just hits their 100th percentile. But why this org fails is it can't turn guys like Sosa into anything remotely passable because they come up with average defense, they have no approach and are just eaten up and spit out as not good enough.2 points

Mods, can we please stop this post. The comments are starting to get offensive and personal, deviating from baseball type arguments...which is what this forum is about. I've always liked Gio and if he is going through a divorce I feel bad for him. However it's none of our business. It's part of life outside of sports or even our work life. We can complain about several Sox players on this team with questionable ethics and attitudes, but Gio has always been one of the classy guys on this team. I only wish him the best in his personal and professional life.2 points

I just can’t ever get out of my head that the Sox developed Marcus Semien, whose only flaw was that he had no position, and he turned into a gold glove SS and got 40% better as a hitter within 12 months of getting traded. Whatever Gonzalez and Montgomery turn into, and I’m confident they’ll be good players, it’s almost certain they’d be so much better anywhere else and it’s so sad.2 points

Wolkow would have been a 1st round pick if he didn't reclassify. He is the closest thing the Sox will ever get to a top J2 guy imo. They need to not waste this chance and develop him fully. He is the best pick of the Sox draft imo. Definitely the highest ceiling, the perfect type of player they should have drafted2 points

If Grandal isn’t moved by the deadline, I would release him for sure.2 points

I think if they tear it down to the studs, Andrus and Grandal should both be released. They've got to gut that toxic clubhouse and give playing time to folks who may be here moving forward.2 points

I keep thinking about this. He doesn’t have the big personality of some of the other participants. He doesn’t have the name recognition (yet). He didn’t have an entourage or any other teammates there with him. Hell, he basically had no storyline at all. And I wouldn’t be surprised if there was even a little culture shock going from whatever this Sox miserable existence is to…gasp…a fun environment?! Atta boy Pantera. Hopefully this was the first of several. He deserves to be showcased more on a national level.2 points

Huh? There were plenty of people saying “it’s personal life” about to TA too.2 points

I would love to compare this to your comments on Tim Anderson. I bet they're quite different. This thread is so telling. Tim Anderson has an affair and the board lambasts him non-stop about it. Giolito's wife is leaving him(likely because of infidelity) and it's all "it's his personal life, respect his privacy, blah, blah, blah). Double standards are awesome.2 points

Giolito has three starts left with the Sox. Cease’s days with the Sox were numbered the moment he switched to the Boras. Enjoy them while they last cause things could get real ugly fast.2 points

Still proud of our guy, nice to see him push himself out of his comfort zone a bit. He hit one 484ft, the longest tracked HR in T-Mobile per Statcast. He made the ASG. And he did it all after turning in 87(!!!) first half starts in CF.2 points

Wow. It's not like we're emotional and irrational about this. We are ignoring that Jerry didn't want James Shields (he can read stats, after all), but went along with Hahn in getting him, and to boot gave away Tatis to save a buck. So Hahn pulled the strings in that one. Jerry should nixed it when he had the thought. The guy doesn't even get it right when he knows better.2 points
