Love him or hate him, I think Don Cooper was a better pitching coach than Katz has ever been.5 points

The White Sox have a bottom 5 offense in baseball and there really isn’t any reason to think they are going to be good on offense next year either. This team isn’t remotely close to competing.5 points

They don't really need a new park do they. What they really need is a new team.4 points

One of the worst losses of the season, maybe the worst. A terrible team annihilates the Sox who muster four hits. What a joke of a team, organization. Remains one of the worst seasons in all our lifetimes because of the lack of effort and lack of having a clue in all regards.3 points

Just because of the way he looks. And he's actually one of the fastest players on the Sox team for 2023 because he consistently hustled...and already deceptively quick for that body type.3 points

People around here couldn't wait to ship off a guy who busted his ass and hit for power because he's just another Palka or some such s%*#.3 points

Absolutely right ... the renovations done in 2003-2004 really helped make new Sox Park seem less generic. It's now an attractive facility, especially inside -- well-maintained, great sightlines, etc. This is by far the most accessible stadium in the city -- located in a central location in the region, near three (!) public transportation lines and two major expressways (Dan Ryan and LSD). It's got the best tailgating scene in the city. And then there's the fact that it's the same location as the old park -- so in essence the Sox have played at the same location for 113 years. There's a definite appeal to that. There's nowhere else in the city/region that would work as well as their present stadium/location. That said, it's definitely time for another major renovation -- they really need to overhaul the outfield/bleacher section (would love to see them get rid of the Tinkertoy ad space in the outfield). There's also room for development around the stadium. Before he died, Jim Thompson talked about how he wanted to build a hotel on the property, perhaps in the area where the old ballpark was. But that idea was nixed by JR, who also nixed Thompson's request to share profits for the "Bacardi in the Park" restaurant that the state/taxpayers built for the team back in 2011: https://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/20160825/bridgeport/sweetheart-deal-on-ballpark-naming-rights-nothing-new-for-white-sox/3 points

2 HRs since Memorial Day, can’t play RF, can’t bat against LHP, must burn a bench player if a LH reliever is in or late in a close game. Sheets should only be on the active roster if Eloy or Andrew are on the IL, and only because they have no viable alternatives. His platoon bat is too weak to be on any contending roster.3 points

I was actually told by a source over the winter that Wintrust actually offered a better deal for the Sox then Guaranteed Rate but there were other factors involved including one involving a high ranking member of the front office and some "family" connections to that company. The other issue was Wintrust wanted the named changed back to Comiskey Park and JR did not like that one bit.2 points

Just build the Armor Square Field design and name it Wintrust Field at Comiskey Park. It's so fucking baffling that this team was offered one of (if not the) best ballpark designs (Camden) in MLB and the best possible name and passed them up both times. Imagine the Camden Yards design, facing the skyline, but it has the words WIN and TRUST in the name. The White Sox way.2 points

Comiskey III will right all of the wrongs of the original version of Comiskey II. Home plate will be at 35th & Shields and the park will face the skyline to the north. The south side of 35th will be restaurants, bars, and team store. McCuddies II will be the anchor. 35th street will be closed to traffic and will be set up as a tailgate/beer garden. New Sox Park will bdraw 30K a night and will be a destination again. The potential is there. It just takes the will.2 points

Granted I haven't been to The Cell in a while, but like you say, after renovations it decidedly felt great. Also driving from Kankakee and back was easy. The Sox really shouldn't be talking about this until they need one. And when that time comes, they should just build it where Comiskey Park was.2 points

He's probably still a Dodgers fan. The White Sox are just a money making investment to him.2 points

The one saving grace with GRF is that, since it started as a blank slate, it's one of the only ballparks that has consistently improved with its age. That speaks more to the starting point than anything else, but you get the idea....2 points

Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s Eloy to IL. They said day-2-day, but we all know how amazing this training staff is at completely getting the diagnosis wrong.2 points

I don't think the current ownership group wants to deal with all that would go into a new stadium. I think they'd ideally like to make that the next buyer's problem.2 points
-
I'm thinking they were thinking they were going to go on a several year run, and probably at least start whispering they need a new park probably by now. The last couple of years probably have wrecked that dream. They aren't getting a park unless JR wants to pay for it, and that will never happen. He did pop for half the United Center.2 points

Yeah, if you think you have to IL ELoy, do that otherwise send down Sheets. He has no business being on an MLB roster.2 points

Cannon gets the W in Birmingham. He looked pretty good and I felt like he was getting more whiffs than usual, but a few long ABs drove the pitch count up. 5IP, 1ER, 5H, 5K, no walks. Post-game, he said he was working with a new version of his slider at 84-86mph. The cutter is 89-92mph. Nice to see him settle in this month after a rough start as a Baron following the promotion. 4ER in 15IP across his 3 August starts so far. Veras is staying hot. He was 2-4 with a HR and a 2B off the wall that just missed going out. Montgomery was 2-4 with 3 RBI. A head cold is what had him out for a bit, apparently. Elko hit his first AA homer today, but you can kind of see that he's still adjusting to the pitching at this level. Had a couple of pretty athletic plays at 1B though, including a nice basket catch on a foul ball and a 3-6-3 DP.2 points

At least Gonzalez is getting some hits now. Would like some ISO too. Harris has been impressive to me at the plate, not sure how he's been behind the plate tho. I really liked that Wolkow got 2 walks tonight. If he can lower the Ks and add some walks to his power profile that would be great.2 points

Cousin turned in a very solid start: 6IP, 2ER, 8H, 0BB, 5K. His longest outing of the year.1 point
