  1. . . . but nobody is watching, is it actually a winning streak? Kopech vs Rodriguez

  2. Well, everyone for the next 10 years can thank this lady for getting us all screened 3 times over before we walk into the park now (if it was her gun)

  3. If that is the ultimate conclusion, the White Sox and JR should be significantly fined by MLB. for the security breach, and for not doing anything for the safety of the fans in attendance let alone the players and umpires after the shooting occurred.

  4. What a joke. Separate your personal feelings from your professional obligations. He also was talking about how "dominant" the 2005 club was, when in hindsight it was an extremely lucky club that used 100 years worth of saved up pixie dust to win the WS. It was so extraordinary because it was one of the few times in the history of the franchise where they managed to not underachieve, in a year with really no expectations as well. Wow, good job! The Sox have conditioned their fans to expect nothing, so simply not sucking is celebrated, I guess, and if you get lucky and go on a WS run with incredible pitching health and once a career performances from half your staff, you get a lifetime pass from losers like Merkin I guess. 2005 was 18 fucking years ago. We've had one division title and what, two playoff appearances? So we're 1/9 fielding a half way decent club, in a terrible division (that had unbalanced schedule the entire time) in the wildcard and now 2nd wildcard era. That's pathetic. There's nothing "bittersweet" about it, it's all bitter. 2005 might as well be 1985 imo.

  6. Cmon. That is just not true. Read the Patch. it actually covers the southside jackings and robberies.

  7. Continually evoking "Fox News" as a condemnation is lazy and uninspired. And per capita is simply a way to push aside uncomfortable facts to pigeon hole a point. Per capita the Fillmore neighborhood is the deadliest in the country. Per capita Rogers Park is one of the safest neighborhoods in the country. Both facts neglect the bigger picture and can be manipulated for a one sided argument. Bottom line is that violent crime is reaching parts of the city it never used to....the west loop has exploded with carjackings, the south loop has quadrupled shootings and murders since pre-2020, gold coast, Logan Square, all vast increases. My wife worries about taking our kids on the dan Ryan to the game. Earlier this year I tried to reassure we'd be careful as we were preparing to go. My words fell on deaf ears as traffic was backed up from....an expressway shooting. It sucks, but I'm not going to ignore it or downplay it because I love my city. I'm going to acknowledge because I love what my city use to be and I'd like it back.

Thanks for all the help and ahem bmags, comments. Looks like last couple days were less successful, so I guess it is okay to return.

  9. First, understand that people hide weapons all over. It’s not uncommon for very fat people to hide weapons in fat rolls. Many people have been locked up with guns up their butts (I assume broken down). I’m being very serious. People hide them wherever they can. Second, never attribute to malice that which can be explained by stupidity. If it was in a fat roll, this person may have carried a gun like that regularly and forgot about it. They probably remembered when the detector went off, but at that point most people aren’t gonna come clean. They’ll just hope they get through. This is all speculation obviously, as we still don’t know all the facts. But some of these are things I’ve seen and heard myself, or have been told firsthand accounts of by people I trust.

  10. If they move to the suburbs they're going to completely cede any relevance they have with young-ish Chicagoans to the Cubs. There are hundreds if not thousands of White Sox fans living on the north side who take the red line to the game on a regular basis. They're not going to drive out to Naperville. If they really must move though, they should go to Orland Park (or Crestwood like I said before). I believe the former site of the massive Andrew Corporation headquarters in Orland is still sitting vacant after 20 or so years.

  11. United Center is too far for most of us in the Sox fan base. I seldom go to Hawks games because of the distance from the South suburbs. The acquisition of land around the UC is to buffer the roughest neighborhoods of the City on the West side and protect the investment in the UC. Bridgeport is nothing like the West side and has seen a good deal of gentrification over the past 20 years or so. Two things that Sox ownership should do at this point to address rumors, concerns, etc. 1. Clarify that the Sox will have continuity of ownership like the Bears have had with the Halas/McCaskey families. Perhaps start to delegate more ownership level decisions to Michael Reinsdorf and/or bring in some other investors that will be committed to keeping the Sox in Chicago. 2. Make it clear that the Sox will not leave the Southside of Chicago or SW suburban areas where the majority of our fan base is located. 3. (optional) Put some away games on WGN Channel 9 or 32. Give away a few dollars to grow the fan base.

  14. Disagreed. He only had a 2 minute segment on it, but he goes through TLR and not adding top tier FA talent. He's clearly talking about being able to add a Harper or Machado, then failing to do so. I mean, if you want a catch all in terms of why the rebuild failed, he could tell you too. Not sure why you're going at Passan who is as fair as they come.

  15. Looking outside the organization for an outside perspective from a guy who spent 20 years in the organization (20 years ago)and hasn’t been in the MLB for quite a while (his wiki doesn’t have recent employment seems like the last job he had was in the Northern Independent League 10 years ago) hey yea that doesn’t sound like anything we have done before

  19. Probably the same reason no one pointed out my thread from October 2005 saying I wouldn't be surprised if Jerry talks about a new stadium. It's a reoccurring thread.

  20. I drive the Dan Ryan at night often and that scares my wife because of how often drivers are shooting at other cars. It was not that long ago that a woman was killed that way going home from Sox Park. Violent crime has gotten worse in the city, it just has. I don't understand how people can deny that.

  21. Not acquiring elite talent in their prime is part of the problem. One of many. Jerry is the reason why this franchise sucks, and his refusal to pay up for prime FA is just one manifestation of his ass-backwardness.

  23. Nightengale irritates the s%*# out of me. Especially his 670 the score interviews. I get that he needs to keep his sources, but he CONSTANTLY praises everything White Sox (or White Sox related). He just gave an interview on Mully and Haugh where he sung praises about Jerry, Hahn, KW, TLR, Getz and Moore. Barely any negative words about them. He thinks KW and Hahn will easily land jobs in the MLB in the future if they want. Really? I'm sure they have friends in high places, but these bozos will EASILY get front office jobs again? Come on.

  24. By that same logic, if you take Englewood and Austin out of Chicago, it would be the safest big city in the country.

  25. It sounds like that was always the plan and Getz will certainly be in the mix. I think some got out a little over their skis on this one (shocking I know).

  27. I want to see Elko challenge Vaughn, but Elko's got a really high BABIP and strikes out 10% more. I think Yoan has scarred me for life on high BABIP, high strikeout guys.

  29. I’m excited by his year, but he needs to cut down on his strikeouts. His year in bham is a little SSS, some weird stuff. Next year, if he can increase BBS and cut down Ks, even marginally, that will be the indicator. That said he hasn’t seen increase in k% as he’s been promoted.

  34. The White Sox have told reporters that Tony La Russa isn't a consultant for the team. Harold is saying that Dayton Moore probably isn't coming and I've heard similar. Maybe they hire Chris Getz anyway. Or maybe Bob Nightengale has bad information somehow.

  35. The Sox don't have to be top 10 in attendance to be profitable for the franchise and the city. People have the wrong mindset. The Sox are never going to be the Cubs, and that's okay. It really doesn't matter. It would be a travesty for the city, especially the South Side, to let the Sox move. The Sox have strong branding and a somewhat strong identity. Bridgeport is a great neighborhood. Transportation to the stadium is outstanding. Just win some damn games consistently.

  36. I went to the game last night. As I was walking towards the park a young woman from a radio station approached me and asked if I would like to be interviewed. Naturally i said yes. She asked me if I knew about the shooting that occured the previous night at the game. I said yes I knew about it. She then said, aren't you afraid of being here after last nights shooting? I said no. I've been coming here and the Old Comiskey Park my entire life and there has never been any trouble. Last night was a one time incident. She then said, have you ever been scared going to any sporting event? I said yes. I don't go Wrigley Field anymore because of all the car jackings and armed robberies in that area. She then asked me for my name and thanked me for the interview.

  37. I travel about 10,000 every year across America. Your ignorance of rural America matches others of urban America. Yes, there are crimes everywhere. I've felt very safe in Chicago and in small towns across the country. Poverty and lack of opportunities are a greater predictor of crime in an area than political parties or population density.
