  5. It is with great sadness that I inform our members of the passing of our beloved Alex (ie Heads). Alex was one of my dear friends - and was a friend to all on Soxtalk, around Ames Iowa (where he supported his cyclones) and to his friends and family. For anyone that didn’t know Alex, he had a heart of gold and he always treated people on this forum (and anyone) with the upmost respect and dignity. He loved his family, his friends, his White Sox and especially his Iowa State Cyclones. We will forever miss Alex, but we will always remember him. He was with Soxtalk from its infancy and played such an incredible roll in building out this site, developing our community, driving passionate discussion and ensuring civil dialogue. What I will miss most about Alex is his sense of humor, kind heart, and passion. We would share text over the years and always be joking with each other…whether it was over the Iowa / Iowa State game (My Hawkeyes would always win) or chatting about the Sox (and even the Dodgers - both of our dads favorite teams). I’ll always remember after all the years of texts and IMs when we finally met in person - somehow he was even nicer in person. From all those texts, it was always clear how much he loved his family, friends, the Sox and of course the Cyclones. I know without a doubt what has always made this place special is the connection our members have to each other and Alex was very much the epitome of that and we have all lost a tremendous friend and way way too soon in life. We love you Alex, we will forever miss you, and we send nothing but love and prayers to you, your family, and your friends. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the family members and friends who were impacted by the tragic accident. https://cyclones.com/news/2025/5/6/isu-athletics-mourns-the-loss-of-alex-ernst

  6. More sad news, one of my favorites, Chet Lemon has passed away. Had a lot of health issues in recent years, including several strokes. Couldn't walk or talk during his final days. Only 70.

  9. Man this hits hard. I've known about Alex since 2003. I joined this board in January 2004 and he was one of the first ones to welcome me in. The dude was such a great person. I still have our DMs (along with some other OGs here) from years ago here. One of them which I just happened to look at, was when I couldn't see or afford to watch MILB games online and the man literally gave me his email, username and password to watch our farm affiliates. You will be deeply missed Alex. May he RIP and prayers to his loved ones.

  23. With the Sox being so bad for a very long time now (and having kids and family) I admittedly have forgotten how much this place and the people that have made it what it is means to me. When I heard the news about Alex my heart shattered. I have been sick over the fact this world lost such a young and wonderful person in the blink of an eye. I know in heaven he doesn’t have a care to worry about and free from pain but I would like to think at some point he gets a chance to read some threads on the ol’ soxtalk to see how much he meant to us. RIH Alex…

  24. About to lose again to KC About to get their ass kicked again by a Central foe Is anyone in this organization embarrassed? Does anyone give a flying F? How's your process and structure playing out Getz? You piece of crap...... Go gloat on podcasts again when you win 40 games this year. How does anyone support an organization that is 51-148 in their last 199 games???? I cannot believe this is what I am being presented as a life long fan who has spent lots of my money on this organization and supported them through thick and thin. How is this acceptable??? I have never hated something i use to love so much.

  31. I'm pulling out my signed photo of Donn Pall as soon as I get home and putting it on display. This is great news....I had just texted my wife that the new Pope was born in Dolton and I was reserving judgement until I know if he's a Sox fan...if he was born in Dolton but is a Cubs fan I have no use for him...if he ends up just being a soccer fan, I am neutral. So VIVA LA PAPA!!!

  33. The one problem with the internet in general is the abstraction that takes place where we are anonymous entities that interact with other anonymous entities. It sometimes removes the humanity of it all. We forget that these usernames are people with lives, loves, hopes, dreams, families and real world issues. I never met Alex in person but interacted with him on here. He was a good poster and seemed like a generally good human being. I am so sorry for the loss to his family, loved ones and his friends. It seems like he impacted and inspired those around him. That is the hallmark of a good man. God Bless him and may he receive external peace.

  34. I understand that the majority of this roster is junk but I can't understand why a guy like Palacios is leading off, ever. We need all the offensive help we can get and this is the guy you want getting the most at bats? The roster sucks, but you can still make better decisions in regard to lineup construction and we just aren't. There is some different oddball lineup seemingly every day. I don't get it.

  37. The Sox will never become lovable losers because only a few of us love them along with an unlovable ballpark in an unlovable part of town. A new ball park somewhere in the Chicago Metro area but not at 35th and Shields would help along with new ownership.

  39. The White Sox were labeled Winning Ugly in 1983. These past 3 years the team has been Losing Ugly. There has been nothing lovable about this team the last 3 seasons.

  40. He was only 37. I've never met anyone on this board, at least knowingly, but like many of you, it was a huge part of my formative years. Heads always seemed like a genuinely kind and caring person, and this news makes me wish I'd gotten the chance to know Alex. I say he was only 37 in part because the persona he portrayed here demonstrated a maturity far beyond his years, and I would've thought he was several years older than me, not a year younger. Insane to think how quickly life can just end. Definitely a reminder to not take anything for granted. I'd like to know if there are public details regarding services, especially if there is a specific cause the family would like memorial contributions to go to. I want to do something in honor of Alex.

  41. Greg, they don't have a CFer for AFTER they trade Robert...unless you want to look at Greg Jones and aren't expecting him to hit more than .150ish. Believe me, you don't want to watch Palacios or Baldwin in CF too often.

  42. Did some math/s... In 81% of their games, or 30/37, they're averaging 2.48 runs per game. 67 runs scored. Good for a 3-27 record. A robust 10% winning percentage. In the other 7 games, they've scored 61 runs on 8/11/10/9/8/8/7 runs scored in those specific games. Unsurprisingly resulting in a 7-0 record. They've scored 5 runs twice, 1-1 in those games. They've scored 4 runs twice, 0-2 in those games They've scored 3 runs eight times, 2-10 in those games. They've scored 2 runs five times, 0-5 record. They've scored 1 run five times, 0-5 record They've been shut out 4 times as well. 0-4 record A scintillating 2-26 when they score 0-4 runs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And yet we clearly need more of Nick Maton, Jacob Amaya, Palacios and Vaughn....and are not even willing to try Elko, Julks, Fletcher or utility guy Tristan Gray

  45. There was part of me that was thinking Getz was beginning to get it with the Smith, Meidroth and Quero and Workman moves. I know Quero was Hahn's parting gift, but at least Getz didn't dither on actually calling him up. And then he does something stupid like this.

  46. Just saw this while waiting at the dentist with my kids. Very shocking to read and while I didn’t have a personal relationship with him beyond the message board, it’s difficult to process. Others have said it better than I can, but the community here means something to all of us, and while a majority of people don’t know each other past the screen names, you get used to reading or getting into exchanges with each other where you feel like a friend. Condolences to his friends and family.
